Republic of Texas Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
The venison and my wife’s scallops were the only things that we had that actually had flavor. We spent 100$ on a lobster tail alone and that had zero flavor. The filet mignon also did not have flavor. My wife and I are also young and felt we were being judged by our waitress, she gave the shade and attitude as if we weren’t gonna be able to afford dinner over we got a total of a lobster tail steak venison and 2 scallops which was 24$ for that and all together it came out to 240 something dollars was definitely not worth it I would not eat here
I was so disappointed and this place kind of ruined my night out for New Years Eve. The food was the worse...both steaks were over cooked and cold. Almost seemed like they served us left-overs. We spent over $300 for a steak dinner for two but would have had a better meal at Denny's. If I come here again would only be for happy hour just to enjoy the ambience but that is all and would later go to dinner somewhere else. Our service was also not up to par for the price...we only saw our waitress twice during our whole dinner. I wouldn't recommend this place but for drinks. I would expect so much more for $300!
Having a reservation for four on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday, we were seated quickly. Unfortunately, we were given no drink menus, and it took some time for our waitperson to come to introduce theirself. While this may seem like a minor mistake, when a restaurant is billing itself as fine dining, something like this makes a difference. It also became a trend.
The server did eventually bring the wine list and cocktail menu, but again, a longer break followed that before drink orders were taken. The server was fairly knowledgeable about the food, including a few specials. Once the food and drinks actually began arriving, it was of high quality, save for one side dish (au gratin potatoes) being a bit undercooked. The steaks were particularly good, and the seafood was well-prepared. However, the bus person was strangely and persistently overzealous about removing plates before we were finished with them. They seemed young, so perhaps it was just inexperience (but something a place like this should be working to avoid).
The final strange touch was that, after paying the check, our server never returned to finish filling the wine glasses of the two in our party sharing a bottle, despite their being a fairly large portion of it left. I had to roam the restaurant to find the server, and, not being able to locate them, I finally asked another for assistance. Before even telling that other server what the issue was, they asked if I needed a bottle of wine recorked to take away with us. That they knew to predict this tells me that this is a recurring problem. At an establishment like this, it is just sad. We would have sat and finished the bottle, but, given the relative disinterest we were being treated with, we decided to cut the losses on service and move on for drinks elsewhere.
This may seem like nit-picking, and for most other restaurants in CC, I would agree, but I really can’t justify spending 4-5 star prices for 3-or-less star service.
The food was good, esp the steak; the fish was undercooked with a mushy center (salmon). Our servers were very polite and attentive. When we said we had limited time, they did their best to get our meal out promptly (maybe why the fish was undercooked?) The view was wonderful.
I have dined at this restaurant for special occasions several times over a number of years. My opinion of the food, and service is remarkably declined since my last visit.
My steak was not near the quality stated in the menu for the price. Husband’s lamb was under seasoned and under cooked. The baked oysters we ordered were just warmed. Server was minimally efficient and didn’t strive to make a special event memorable.
First time to dine in this restaurant, but will not be the last. I took a special person to what I hoped would be an exceptional evening and it was. The ambiance/atmosphere was superb. The food was excellent and our wait person was the best. Cannot compliment him enough. My hopes were more than met.
The Republic of Texas is a great place to hold business meetings. We have at least one meeting there a month. I enjoy relaxing, having a nice glass of wine or a cocktail and looking out to the bay to watch the sunset. There is a beautiful water view of downtown Corpus Christi. The steaks are great as well as the rest of the menu and being they serve family style side dishes makes the dinner fun to share with the table. There are many talented servers at the Republic but...
" Beautiful Chris " takes the cake. She is very attentive, beautiful smile and so pleasant to talk to. We look forward to going back soon.
I would like to say thank for the wonderful experience and great tasting food! I wanted to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and treat her to a romantic dinner. I can tell you that we accomplished both with overwhelming success. My only critique for the night was the bar tender (heavy set Hispanic male)... We arrived a few mins early and decided to have drinks at the bar. We sat down and could not decided what we wanted to drink, so we asked the bar tender. He was completely unhelpful and response with that's an open ended question and depends on your palate and walks off. I thought that was very rude and unprofessional. I would have expected for him to mention maybe some signature drinks, popular drinks requested or what do we normally drink. I ordered your signature margaritas and it was not very good. It truly tasted like something from a lower class restaurant... Our waiter completely made up for the bar tenders lack of customer service, and gave us food and drink recommendation for the remainder of the night. One last thing is the Windows were pretty dirty. We had excellent seats face the harbour bridge but windows needed desperate attention. Hope this helps to improve on a great restaurant.
The front desk(hosts) were not welcoming but rather rude and fake. Servers were more helpful and polite. The main problem was that they are advertising "daily" featured vegetarian meal but never change it in the whole week! Being a vegetarian, I must say the meal was delicious, but not many vegetables were used and couldn't really consider it a healthy meal. The second dining experience was terrible, that's when we learned the daily change is false advertisement and when we asked for extra or side of vegetables to go with our meal they charged us for it as the second entree $25 and didn't include the vegetarian sussage in the original entree. We gave them a chance twice during our week in town, but would never go back again! Couldn't even believe they charged us $25 for the second plate which is still awfully sitting in a to go box...
Even though the food was good, service was genuine, and the chef was thoughtful for our anniversary...the cost was over priced. I have had all the same at another restaurant but half the cost. For two people it was over $171.00. Being special occasion and our only option while staying at the hotel, we stayed.
Great selection of food. Steaks were cook perfectly. I realize this is kind of a high end retaurant. However, the prices were a bit overboard for the quality and quantity. I have been to many restaurants with just as good of quality and wasn't as pricey. This will not keep me from coming back by no means.
Great view and service. The food is good; however, expensive for what you get. The food and wine is somewhat overpriced. Ex. 2 Sea Scallops for $22.
Our Kids enjoyed going out on the balcony and taking photos.
The service and ombiance is nice. Wow! The fresh bread was really good.
Our steaks were cooked more that "medium" which we requested.
