We had a great meal curated by a wonderful server!
Good cocktails, good food, nice atmosphere.
Food was mostly great. Bacon and Egg special wasn't all that great but everything else was deliscious. Only real negative comment is turn the music down a bit.
Filled with MSU Spartans before the game great energy and enthusiasm. The owner said hello and the server was top
Great food and really friendly service. Obviously you are going to pay more than your average joe bar but it’s worth it for a nice evening out. Great atmosphere and drinks. Definitely going back!
Had a wonderful date night with my boyfriend. We shared their Malbec called blissful which was so smooth and well balanced with the five course meal we had and we each ordered the chefs choice 60$ per person where the chefs choose 5 courses for us and it was so terrific!! As a thank you for such a lovely night and meal we bought the kitchen a round. Can’t wait to come back again! Our server was a very nice and well attentive young man and unfortunately I can not remember his name to give him a proper shout out but thanks again for the lovely night!! We shall return.
Great food. Didn’t like the serving style small plates.
Tried this restaurant for the first time after seeing solid reviews online, but was very disappointed. The glaze and sauce that came with the roasted carrots was tasty, but the carrots certainly weren’t roasted; they were rock hard, didn’t taste like they were even cooked. The lamb meatballs we had were inedible because of how gamey it tasted (and we like lamb, but this was NOT how lamb should taste). Our last dish was the lamb tenderloin, which the waiter discribed as delicious and tender, containing a little bit of fat that remains from after rendering. When we received the lamb, it was in fact 90% fat, 10% meat. To make matters worse, we barely saw our server. Had to flag down multiple times due to lack of attentiveness. Extremely disappointing experience overall.
It was awesome! Our server Jake was great
Food was great, small portions, good drinks. Chocolate cake was not good at all.
First off I will say that they were good with my Celiac disease (allergic to gluten). But, honestly, it just wasn't the type of food my husband and I eat. A ton of vegetable based and I'm just really more a meat and potatoes type girl. We did the chef prix-fixe menu but it was too much food for us and by the time we got to the final course we were full and couldn't fully appreciate it.
My husband and I tried Republic for the first time a few days ago and couldn't have had a better evening. Our server suggested we try the five-course prix-fixe menu, allowing the chef to select for us. Each dish was meant to be shared, and each was delicious and inventive. We haven't had such a fun dining experience in a long time. It was pricey but worth it.
The waitstaff wasn't helpful in explaining the dishes and said that we should share a few dishes to pass and the apps were so small how was it possible to even share. It was VERY loud I couldn't even hear our friends talk. Also the wine list was subpar.
This restaurant had been on my bucket list for some time as I had heard very good things about it. I finally made it Saturday, March 3, 2018, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. I began with a cocktail made with cedar-infused vodka and cherry juice (I think it was called an "Up-North Cabin"). It was delicious and aptly named. The roasted carrots were outstanding as were the hearts of romaine, beet gnocchi and amberjack. The pecan tart was indulgent. Our waiter was very approachable and knowledgeable making the experience even more enjoyable. We we're both impressed and will be back. In the past 2 weeks I have been to some great restaurants in D.C. and Scottsdale but this one took the medal for the quality and creativity of the food.
Delicious! We shared 5 small plates and were able to enjoy quite the variety. Will be back soon.
As always food and service (Jason) was excellent!
Loved this restaurant! Food was fabulous and our waitstaff was incredible. Great ambiance. We will return!
Simply outstanding. The menu will be always full of pleasant surprises and the service is remarkable. One in my top 3 places in downtown.
Excellent food and ambiance
A very curated menu (limited), lots of beets and lots of pickled accoutrements. Wasn’t very busy and service was a little indifferent. Cool vibe overall and quality ingredients.
I am hesitant to not give 5-stars across the board on what was my wife and my second amazing experience. We opted again for the chef-selected menu in spite of the fact that there were a few items on the menu we were not too keen on. We did not voice our concerns to the waiter and as luck would have it, received a few of those items. Laughing as we ate, we still enjoyed the meal thoroughly and cannot wait to go back. Next time we'll just be a little more direct.
I had wanted to go in this building for years. It was boarded up the first time I saw it and I was so excited when it was renovated! We finally went and the ambience was very nice. The menu, even though it had local ingredients, was not as I imagined. I usually am able to find a few options to choose from that I would like. We found only three. The sausage was very good. The carrots were delicious ( though could've been slightly less al dente). The lamb was also good, but I would’ve preferred it cooked a little more. The Brussels sprouts and rice with the lamb were amazing! My dining companion had a very difficult time finding anything she would like to eat. She tried all three, but mainly ate the sausage. They tell you to get four plates for two people, but three was plenty. Not even a chicken dish on the menu. There was a family with two children under ten at the next table. We couldn’t figure out what they could eat on the menu. This menu is definitely not for kids. I would tell friends it’s a fun place to see, but not sure about the menu. I was also disappointed to find that you were not allowed to tour the second floor.
Our experience was phenomenal! Service was fantastic and the tasting menu was to die for! We will definitely be back.
The food was amazing! So glad we finally got to try Republic! Only complaint was no valet- there is a $10 pay lot across the street- wasn’t planning on the walk and didn’t wear sensible shoes- lol!
Chef’s choice is the way to go at Republic. It’s the best way to enjoy a myriad of flavors and foods, all served by delightful staff. Started my courses with a half-blind dovetail, never knew that jalapeño could spice up a cocktail so we’ll! Jake took great care of me and my date!
Amazing drinks and good
Great place to go before the Wings game. They pace the meal as fast or as slow as you wish. Food is very good and shows some creativity by the chef.
Me and my boyfriend went for a special date and we got the chef's choice where the chef sends out a whole meal a course at a time and it was all so delicious I enjoyed every bite and the wine was clearly stored correctly. The service was great, my water glass was never empty, I would go again for any special ocassion.
Great vibe. Eclectic drink menu. Jason provided great service. Trust in the chef’s menu.
The chef certainly knows what to do with vegetables! My date is vegetarian, so we ordered the carrots, smoked beets and potato croquettes. All were inventive and delicious. We had the whole trout as well. I ate the trout while my date enjoyed some of the accompanying risotto and blueberries. All were perfect. It’s a classic venue with plenty of parking. We’ll be back.
Why don’t I come here more often? My few visits here have been exceptional. Ploughmans platter, potatoes fritters, smoked beets, and the whitefish spread is my all-time favorite dish. Very happy with service. Temperature was a bit chilly and management obliged when we asked to warm it up a bit. If you haven’t been to Republic I suggest making it a priority.
Great atmosphere, service & food!
Love the vibe of this place. Perfect for a night out or a bite at the bar.
Food and service were very good as usual, although hostess ignored us for about 5 minutes while she was on the phone.
The entire experience was wonderful. We had the Prix-Fixe Menu and found it a great value, with unusual combinations of vegetables, fish, and meat. Each course was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. Nelson is a great waiter, unobtrusive but very friendly and efficient. I have been to many of the new restaurants in downtown Detroit, but feel this is the best so far. Highly recommended.
Was happy to receive a 2-top that was not crowded by other tables and also away from the windows, as it was quite cold outside. Also appreciated the enjoyable playlist/channel that was running at a lower volume. We were disappointed that we were presented with the Whole Hog special, only to find out that it was no longer available after ordering it. We opted for the next best thing, which was the Chef's Selection. This consisted of a variety of plates from across the menu which all came very promptly, still quite hot from the kitchen, and well-portioned - to include dessert. Amanda was our primary server and did a very nice job. The final charge with tip also posted to my card account very quickly, which was refreshing. I hate when authorizations linger, lol.
Really enjoyed the small plate sharing concept. Great variety of food choices with something for everyone. Food was interesting and creative. Drinks were on the small side. Amanda our waitress was awesome! Fun,cool vibe, friendly attentive staff. Worth the drive from the suburbs.
Food was excellent as always. I do have to say service has been poor at best the couple visits.
Food is well prepared but limited in portion and choices. Most dishes are delicious. There's no burgers, salads, soups, etc. For most, there should be something you could find to eat but the limited menu has been a bit of a problem each time I've eaten there (with different diners each time). The waitress informed us that much is to be shared like a 'small plates' place. Not quite my thing but well acquitted here.
