Cocktails were creative and the excellent friendly bartender entertained all tastes! Food selection was creative and flavorful. I was disappointed that we didn't end up getting a table in the dining room like we expected with a 9:15 reservation. We ended up eating dinner at a high top in the bar by the door instead. I thought a reservation meant a real table... I know, however the staff can't control when people leave. Our server forgot to charge us for our bar drinks and ended up comping us for them. Not sure if that was to make up for not getting a table, but it was a nice gesture we appreciated.
Absolutely incredible tasting menu!
Interesting menu with a lot different types of food. Whatever those potatoes are they were quite yummy! I will visit again. I would not recommend bringing young children here. The food is "grown-up" and children might turn their noses up at it...at least mine would.
Our 2nd visit to Republic did not live up to how great our first dinner there had been. The 4 of us shared 8 dishes and found 3 of them disappointing. The branzino was delicious, the meatballs very flavorful, and the vegetarian pancake excellent. Pot pie and carrots were bland and the salads so-so. They serve family style with the dishes coming out 1-2 at a time. Twice we asked that they slow down bringing the dishes as we felt rushed and wanted to experience the dishes slowly, but they kept coming too quickly.
Loved the atmosphere. Food was very good. Liked the family style. First time visitors for birthday celebration. Will definitely visit again.
Had a great pre-theatre dinner on Friday night. All of the waitstaff and servers are very knowledgeable about the food. Very clever and unusual combinations and presentations. Everything was delicious. Our waitress, Gabby, was great and kept an eye on the time to make sure we got to the show on time. Outstanding!
Tasty food. Our server was very helpful. We went for a kind of tasting menu that they do but where the server chooses. Was good although in hindsight I might have just chosen the dishes I would have preferred. Paired wines were ok but didn’t blow my mind. It was a nice dinner for sure with more food than we could eat but we ate on Sunday and was surprised to find that there was only one other table busy. As it was my birthday we were hoping for a little more atmosphere. I’m sure it was just because it was a Sunday though. I would defo come back and try again on a busier night. I really want to try the cocktails too as I hear they’re great. I was just too full to have one.
The food itself was unique and delicious. We tried 5 or 6 dishes and everything was excellent. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the fact that the food came out one dish at a time, so that was odd and there wasn't really a good flow to the meal. The cocktails were very good and the prices seemed fair. I would return.
An absolutely fantastic restaurant...if you aren’t willing to explore food outside of your typical menu of burgers, pizza, steak, fries etc. this is not the place for you...recommend highly the tasting menu it gives you a chance to check explore all the unique options..
Vegetarian cassoulet was tasteless. Pheasant pot pie very good. Bronzino fish was good and beets good. Cookies dry and hard. One dessert was not memorable. ( I actually can’t remember what is was)
I enjoyed this food and the pace of presentation. Nice blend of dishes for both genders.
Food is very tasty. Combination of unusual foods cooked and presented very well. Dessert not as amazing as everything else.
Service was excellent but the food is missing soul and passion. We did the tasting menu and we only really loved 2 of the 8 dishes they brought to the table. Definitely need to up their game with the food....it is just ok.
Our waitress was outstanding, even the gentleman that brought our dishes to the table was very knowledgeable about what we were going to eat. The cocktails and food choices were unique! I just wish they had more variety for vegan foodies
My husband and I enjoyed the whole experience at the Republic from the wait staff to the food. The tables seem somewhat smaller than normal but in all a great place to go.
Our group of 6 had a great dinner at Republic after a matinee at LCA. We opted for the Chef's Choice and enjoyed sharing all the dishes. The food was great with some of the dishes really exceptional! Wine & drinks were great and the service was excellent. Our server, Katie, was great and able to answer any of our questions about the menu and very attentive to all our needs. We will definitely come again!
Great place to celebrate anniversary. Our waiter patiently allowed us to drag out the evening one course at a time. Food was superb. Beet salad, peppered steak with greens was absolutely fabulous. Street watching, ambience. Will go again soon. Does’t break the bank and cocktails are fresh interpretations.
So yummy. So comfortable. Unique food but wonderful taste. Loved the family style of servicing.
Maybe just add another restroom for how busy your restaurant is?
Had a great time
Service was terrible. Waitress completely inattentive. Food was decent but nothing phenomenal. Had been here once before and service was great as well as the food. Very disappointing. Won’t be running back. To pay that much fir food and have no service and be begging people to fill my water glass is unacceptable.
Fair food. Over priced. Great spot venue. Drinks looked good
I’ve been to Republic before a year ago and had an outstanding meal. This time the food and experience was way lower than expectations from my previous visit. The charcuterie board was previously outstanding and this visit consisted of 3 slices of salami, cheese and some pickles with a hunk of salmon. No butters or jams to help with the dryness of any of it. Also, it is suggested to be a shared meal dinner and the timing of all of the plates and drinks coming out was significantly different from the first experience. Great atmosphere but everything else was sub par for the expected experience.
Excellent small plates menu and service. The ambiance and energy of the area, especially during the holidays, was great!
The food at Republic is great. The noise level is often too much to be able to carry a conversation. Service is slow - not enough staff to do all the clearing of plates after every dish. The key problem with our last visit (and we have been to Republic 3 times before), was it took an hour for any food to show up to the table . Once our order came in, dishes were served in a timely manner, though the pacing of the dishes seemed arbitrary.
Service was good and we bought a round for the kitchen for some reason. The menu did not say the beets in the beet salad were pickled and they were very pickled. The carrot and meatball were as we have had before-very good. The walleye was late in coming and was cold and over cooked. The first glass of wine was obviously from last nights bottle. The second was better.
The Chef tasting menu is a must! We also did the wine flights, got 6 different wines which were well matched with the food.
Republic never disappoints! Our server, Shane, surprised us with great cocktails, recommended the chef's choice and delivered great service. One of my favorite Detroit dining experiences!
Love this place. Do yourself a favor and get the tasting menu. You won’t be disappointed! so much amazing food, beautiful presentation surrounded by lovely decor. Great for a date or special occasions. Enjoyed it every time I’ve gone!
The unexpected flavor combinations are nuanced and magical. Love this restaurant!
We had a party of 6. The meatballs were raw, so we had to send them back. It took so long to make them, we didn’t eat them because we had to leave for a musical at the Opera House. The bill was to be split in two and the waitress charged us both for the entire bill and added 30$ to one of them. We had good company, so it was fine; but this place is a little pricey for the experience. Too many other places to try to repeat that experience.
As always, Republic does not disappoint. The food is outstanding and executed perfectly.
We went to Republic on our way to the Fox Theatre. We had never eaten there and so it was a brand new experience. Our waitress was a delight and filled us in on the unique menu and the family style delivery of meals. I enjoyed a tasty glass of wine and we ordered four items--each brought to us as they were prepared-- and each absolutely delicious. We highly recommend Republic and will definitely visit again!
Perfect ambiance for gathering with friends or a romantic date. Conveniently located near Detroit's entertainment venues. Ingredients are locally sourced and the menu is diverse so there is something for all palates. We had the charcuterie board with smoked duck breast and smoked salmon...delicious! Our server recommended the beef tenderloin with shiitake mushrooms. The meat was so tender we sliced using our our butter knives. All of the dishes were flavorful and the staff was attentive. We look forward to our next visit.
Wonderful best so far
It’s a great casual place to grab dinner with Friends. Excellent drinks and nice ambiance without getting too full
Didn't expect the peppers to be bit spicy for my taste. But other than that, food is superb.
Our favorite dish was the roasted carrots with pickled celery and cilantro pesto – the flavor and texture in this was amazing! Our least favorite dish was the tofu crema, because it was more of a breakfast yogurt than a refreshing dessert.
Loved my first visit to Republic. They were out of the their famous turkey entree, so I tried duck for the first time at Cam's recommendation -- and it was amazingly good! I appreciated the excellent service from Cam, who really cared about the experience we were having.
We ordered the chef tasting menu and it was fabulous. So much food, so many unique flavors. Highly recommend.
Waste of time. Drinks took 20 minutes, even as the restaurant was clearing after the dinner rush.
Sending dishes from the kitchen as they’re ready is really just lazy expediting, and since the restaurant was clearing all of our food came at once (3people, 6 dishes plus our glasses and dining plates) so we had no room on the table and constantly had to shuffle our plates around.
Food was very weak: charred carrots were burnt to the point of more closely resembling charcoal than food, house sauerkraut was not fermented or acidic in any way, mushrooms in multiple dishes where it wasn’t mentioned in the menu description, and the apple cobbler dessert looked like a disaster as a plate of indistinguishable brown mush and was way too heavy on the aromatics so it blew out your palate.
