This was our first visit to Renzo's. When we walked in we saw the Romeo and Juliet table and asked if we could sit there and the hostess said it was available. Our server came over and was nice and told us about the specials. We ordered a bottle of wine and we shared the Caesar salad which was excellent. The bread and the oil dip was also very good. I ordered the Lasagna and I loved it. My husband ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana and was disappointed. The eggplant was rolled with the cheese and then there were fresh tomatoes inside of it. It just was not very favorable and the tomatoes in there did not help. Overall, everything else was good and we would return.
Let’s begin with the cocktail, we ordered kir royale, which should be a little bit of creme de cassis and mostly sparkling wine. This was mostly cassis, making it ridiculously sweet. When I told the waiter there was too much cassis, he went and got the bottle of Prosecco and poured a little more on top. Not the solution I was looking for! We then ordered mushroom risotto, and that was ok but they used sliced portobellos, and with all the wild mushrooms around these parts it should have had a little more variety. We wanted veal for our entree, and they only offered veal saltimbocca, but my wife didn’t want the prosciutto, so asked if she could have piccata style. The waiter checked with the kitchen, and then told us that chef didn’t like to have to do this but would this time. Sheesh! What came out, believe it or not, was veal with prosciutto (!) and all swimming in a lemon butter sauce with a few capers. I stuck with the saltimbocca, and it was fair. The waiter never asked my wife if the veal was to her liking, and she just peeled the prosciutto off the veal. The cannoli we had for desert was good. All in all, a disappointing meal, mediocre service, and a restaurant that I would not recommend. PS all this under the nose of Renzo, the owner, who never checked on us during the dinner.
This restaurant is not a good value. Two of us had the bean soup, which had many, many more pieces of potato than beans, had no discernable flavor and is not a dish we would ever order again. The caesar salad was forgettable. One of us had the seafood melange and the other two had the sliced filet with rocket dish. The filet dish was fair and the seafood item not very satisfying. The prices charged for this meal do not represent the relative quality of the product. No good reason to return here. All three of us travel extensively and feel that the high ratings of this restaurant do not come close to representing the actual situation.
Always a nice experience.
We had a table for two upstairs. Very nice and private. The staff was wonderful!
First time. Great food. Loved the ambiance. Jacqueline's service was spot-on. We'll be back.
The service is attentive and the food is fresh and delicious.
Where to begin? First, scheduling the reservation required little effort. My additional requirements were addressed (having a small birthday cake) and Renzo singing happy birthday to my wife added the final touch to an extraordinary evening. We felt well taken care of and Renzo came over several times to ensure our experience was exceptional. Renzo took a video/picture and sent them to me as well. We couldn't be more pleased with the experience. When we visit again, Renzo's will be our first choice. Thank you again Renzo.
Outstanding service and food
Always a great experience at Renzo's, although Renzo himself wasn't there on Monday night. If you go, you WILL meet Renzo. He's a great host and wants to make sure all his guests are happy at all times. I love their Beef Carpaccio, and I order it every time I'm dining at Renzo's. A simple presentation with Argula and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano and a bit of olive oil. So many other restaurants insist on adding chimichurri or some other sauce that does nothing but detract from the wonderful flavor of the beef. Osso Bucco is always great. My wife loves the pasta dishes. I had their special this last visit... a seared tuna steak served over a bed of lemon risotto with asparagus and a lovely creamy white sauce. Renzo is working on a speakeasy style room upstairs... should be opening soon. Ask about it when you go. I'm not much of a dessert guy, but their desserts are all homemade on the premises. Espresso is excellent as it should be in any Italian restaurant.
Maybe we had a bad night, but we made reservations for two and we had to wait 25 minutes before we were seated on a Monday night at 7:15. That is supposed to be the best and quietest time. . Then they took us up a flight of stairs that was extremely difficult as people in our 70s to have to go. Then we were seated in the hallway with absolutely no windows no ambience and outside of the large ballroom where there were teenage girls making a tremendous amount of noise. No one seem to bother to ask him to be quiet or to shut the doors. We were also seated outside of the servers kitchen and waited Quite a while to be given menus, served, and checked on sporadically. Our food was basically thrown on the table and then we were left to take care of ourselves. It was way overpriced for the quality of food. My husband ordered clams with linguine and I ordered lasagna. Both were tasteless. The salads however we’re very good Cesar and House. Bread for an Italian restaurant was less than desirable. We would not go back. However it is adorable little place, and it’s too bad that they want to get by on their charm and not their quality . It was way overpriced for the quality of food. We are travelers and we go out to dinner a lot, too many different places at very many different levels. We are not even fussy and pretty easy to satisfy, so this was a real disappointment for us. The owner seem to be more impressed with his architecture and the fact that he’s opening a speakeasy next-door and he is on the quality of service he’s giving to the people that are there. It’s a very noisy environment also
Food outstanding. Will visit again!
Wife had lasagna and it was excellent..hand made pasta with mozzarella and baby meatballs. I had the special-shrimp and mussels with hand made linguine-excellent. So many mussels I ate them and brought the rest home. We shared the chocolate mousse. Definitely shareable and delicious. Nice wine list. Good service and you are not rushed. Retro 50’s style decor but tasteful. not cheap but inline with other good restaurants in the area. Highly recommend especially for a special evening out and/or a celebration.
Very respectful waiter. And the food came out in a timely manner. Was happy that the waiter didn't rush us. We didn't feel like we had to leave immediately after we ate ...like some restaurants. Waiter was very attentive. He checked back on us often. Would love to go again for our anniversary or my birthday. Very impressed with the authentic food. Great job!
Ambiance and food were very good. Service was very slow. 6:30 reservation and we didn't get check until almost 9pm and we had our 10 year old granddaughter with us. Value for dinner was reasonable but desserts were way overpriced, ie mousse for $10 delivered with luke warm coffee.
Romeo booth seats are st angle so tricky to eat without sitting on edge but my trout w polenta was excellent.
Our meal was really good. My wife had the lasagna (with meatballs) and it was outstanding... that's what lasagna (and italian meatballs!) are supposed to taste like. I had the fish stew and it was also really good. Unfortunately, service wasn't up to our expectations. Our waiter seemed too busy between serving others and bartending and we often had to ask other servers for assistance (like more water, pepper for our table, etc). Possibly understaffed that night as it was during Memorial Day weekend. At any rate, would definitely try again.
Excellent food, but overpriced. The main course dishes are expensive and they don't come with anything but bread. So I have mixed feelings. The food was very good, but the value wasn't there for me.
A wonderful time! Great food, great presentation and a wonderful server with such a pleasant Italian accent. We will be coming back since we live close by!
We had a reservation, were seated immediately in the upstairs hallway across from service alcove. This table should be eliminated! Very noisy the whole night. Although my wife ordered wine, it was 40 min before anything arrived. At that time everything(wine, bread, and 2 entrees)arrived and water glasses were refilled. No apology or explanation-
Food was well prepared, very good. Will not go here again!
This was our first time experiencing Renzo's and it was absolutely wonderful! My husband requested a private room for our Mother's Day dinner, and it was very quiet and cozy, as we had our 6 week old grandson with us. A delicious array of cuisine that was amazing! I highly recommend them for a wonderful family dinner or an intimate couple's evening. Very impressed and will definitely be back!
We were the first diners to be seated upstairs on Sunday evening. With the whole floor open, we were first seated in a dark hallway but asked for and were moved to a lovely table in the back dining room. The server brought my Caesar salad with no offer of pepper...in fact there were no salt and pepper on the table. It was some time before we could get the server's attention to request salt and pepper. The eggplant was delicious. The carbonara, not so much. Little sauce and no flavor. Again a wait to get our server. The chef did an excellent job of redoing the dish. Service at a restaurant of this caliber was severely lacking.
Excellent, high quality food, prepared to perfection. Attentive, professional service. One of the best restaurants in Hendersonville. Great place for special occasions or for those who enjoy gourmet dining.
Authentic Italian cuisine with a friendly wait staff. The lamb special was phenomenal as was the salmon pasta.
Our first time at Renzo’s and we will be back for sure! We were seated right at our reservation time, the service was great, all staff was super friendly and catered to our every need, the place is charming and comfortable, food was amazing. Best Italian we’ve found in the area!
We had not been to Renzo’s for some time. Trout was excellent but bed of polenta was too oily. I will order the Lasagna again. Malbec was a wise choice. Cannoli dessert was perfect...crispy crusts on a rainy day. Good job. Nice server but she could use a bit more training.
Food was excellent. Grouper special and veal saltimbocca. Wine choices were a little weak but we are winos. Taste before selecting by the glass
The only negative - they ask if you are celebrating a special occasion when booking but then there is no recognition by them when dining. Our friends were celebrating their 42nd anniversary which we specifically noted in our booking.
Beautiful restaurant and decor. Owner greets you and makes sure everything is satisfactory. Service great. Wonderful restaurant
Nice attentive staff. Good northern style Italian.
We have visited here before and it was superb. This visit was not as wonderful. The service was very slow. The grouper was tough and over cooked. The veal was more like steamed than sautéed. Salads were good. A little too pricey for what we received.
The salads were very very expensive not to say the entrees and dessert. Was seated near the kitchen which ruined the ambiance of the restaurant. Be sure and ask for a table more to the front of the restaurant.
Food was perfect. We had trout from the menu and the grouper special. Both were delicious! The server was so pleasant and addressed all of our inquiries. There were families with children and everyone seemed to be having a delightful time.
Renzo's has done what few restaurants anywhere have been able to do - it has become a dining destination. The service is just as impeccable as the food is delicious, and the ambiance created by a stunning world-class decor all work to create a memorable dining experience. The wine list is well paired with the cuisine and the bartender's skill in preparing cocktails is beyond notable. My plan is to go back - again and again!
Excellant upscale Italian food here in Hendersonville. Menu has something for everyone and every taste and a good selection for us vegetarians. The Porcini Mushroom Risotto is to die for and plenty of interesting pasta selections. Can't wait to check out the new SpeackEasy coming next month.
The website needs to correspond with the current menu re appetizer servings for one or two, also wine selections not being up to date. Always enjoy the food and service.
I rarely give a restaurant a five star review, but Renzo's hit the mark on every level. The atmosphere was quaint, romantic and whimsical all at once, and unlike so many places these days, one can carry on a conversation without straining to hear. Our server was knowledgable, friendly and accessible without hovering. And the food - the best tomato gravy in a fish stew that I have ever tasted! Every bite of clams, mussels, shrimp and fish was cooked perfectly. My friend had a veal piccata special that boasted a delicious lemon sauce. It's obvious the owner takes real pride in providing authentic Italian food and flair. I'll remember this meal for a long time! I highly recommend this surprising find in Hendersonville.
An absolutely great restaurant located in beautiful old downtown Hendersonville. One of the very best and I have traveled the world.
We have been to this restaurant quite a few times. We always expect the food to be outstanding and the service great. As usual Renzos did not disappoint.
Took my wife for dinner to celebrate her birthday. We had the special (shrimp, clams and linguini in a white wine butter sauce), and salads. Followed up with coffee and cannolis. Our waiter, Christian, was attentive but not intrusive; very pleasant. The food was incredible! Atmosphere is great.
Very nice experience.
