Renata Ratings and Reviews
We had been to Renata once before (maybe about a year ago), and we had an outstanding experience. We recently visited a second time for my birthday, and the experience was good, but it failed to completely blow us away again. We did not feel particularly welcomed by the wait staff throughout the meal which impacted our experience most - especially when you consider your expectations going into the evening, the price point, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. I'm hoping it was just an off night for the wait staff.
The bread appetizer was fantastic. My husband ordered a pork chop that was simply delicious. My risotto was good, but it wasn't amazing in the way that a rich, flavorful risotto can be. Portion sizes were good. Cocktails were great. Overall, we do like this restaurant, and I'm sure we'll give it another try at some point. The ambience is lovely, and it's perfect for a date or special occasion.
I got a gift card from my workplace and it was a great opportunity to try Renata out. We were impressed with the quality ingredients and presentation. The food was well season and amazing flavors. If you have not been to Renata, then should plan for a visit!
This is an amazing restaurant... food is perfect... but for some reason, the cocktails were way longer than usual in arriving... and the chef burned the first pizza we ordered so we had to wait for them to make another. In the meantime, two of us were presented with our meals, which were cooked to perfection. The staff was so apologetic and comped our pizza and then brought us another entree so we were more than compensated. It is one of our favorite restaurants and continues to be. The staff are friendly yet professional ..
I had been wanting to go to Renata for some time and had heard only good things - it did not disappoint! Wonderful food across all courses (we had a starter, entrees, and dessert), great cocktails, impeccable but approachable service, lovely setting. We will be back and will recommend to others.
I love the food at Renata's, but the service was less than stellar this time. I had to track down on three occasions one of the waiters and then we were delivered a wrong drink after we already had the same drink first and the waitress took away our bread plates and then when the bread actually came after I asked for we had no bread plates. Based on the service, I would not go back but the food is so good so I will go back.
We love Renata and have always had great service except for this time. The server was snobby and seemed like we were an inconvenience. She took a long time to take our order and was overall not pleasant. I was disappointed as this has never happened before here.
My friend and I were surprised to find the menu so limited, basically pizza and pastas. We shared a Brussels sprouts salad that was average; she had a very nice pappardelle with lamb and I had a beef agnlotti that was very small and not very good. We shared a very nice flourless chocolate cake. The waiter was friendly but kept asking us to order when we had not even received our cocktail; and when we asked to see the wine list, he brought us only the By the Glass selection, which seemed odd. We agreed that we were not eager to return to Renata.
I was set up perhaps with high expectations as I was told that Renata was amazing. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I would call it a good restaurant, but not amazing and perhaps not worth the price. We were seated promptly. Our main water though was a bit "off". We sat down, were given menus and he checked in with us to take a cocktail order. The cocktails took some time (longer than expected) and though they tasted great, they were all mainly ice. So very little cocktail itself. After the cocktails came, some time had passed and we were ready to order. It was at this point that we were told about things on the menu that were not available. Like bread. In an Italian restaurant. They were out of bread. We had had enough time to know what we wanted, and had been given the menus at least 20 minutes prior, then told No Bread and also that one of the entrees was a different protein that what was listed on the printed menus. OK, so we order other things than what we originally wanted. Of the 6 dishes we ordered, one was amazing (pork parapadelle), one was very good (chicory salad with bagna cauda dressing), one was not good (kale vegetable side, sitting in a bowl of greasy vinegar), and the other 3 were OK. They did have a great wine list and the wine we ordered was lovely. If I went back, I would stick to the in-house made pastas and perhaps go early if you want to try the bread. It is a large restaurant and our waiter told us they only make 6 loaves per day :)
We visited 2 years ago and found it amazing but this year we were very disappointed. The food was average at best and certainly not worth the price. We have no issue paying for excellent food and service but everyone in our party agreed the food missed the mark this time.
The ravioli with bolognese sauce was terrific, as was the mushroom ragu and the hangar steak. Our server was great - knowledgable and friendly, without being overbearing. My only issue was the noise level. It was loud. I think most restaurants in Portland are loud these days, so I don't hold it against them. I am looking forward to returning and trying new dishes.
The salad was delicious and we appreciate the server tell8mg us it was big enough to be shared. We ordered the squid ink pasta and the braised chicken pasta. Both were delicious and did not disappoint. The portion size was good. Our server was very attentive yet gave you enough room. Great service.
We had the roasted pork and the pasta with lamb. Both were excellent. The only problem we had, was the side dish we ordered; it was called Roasted Spigarello with maitake mushrroms and grana padano . We were served a bitter greens (I thought it was chard) with nothing else in it. We asked the waitress if maybe we were served the wrong side dish, and she told us as she was walking away that that's what we ordered and that we'd probably find some mushrooms as the bottom of the dish. There were none and no cheese at all that we could tell. It was disappointing (the dish and the attention it was given when we asked about it) but didn't ruin the night for us. I think the description of this dish should be changed a bit to reflect what is actually served.
Fantastic pizza...had the gorgonzola, red onion, LOVED. Pastas are delicious, we had the tagliatelle and it was exceptional....all handmade noodles too, love that. Service at the chef's bar was a bit slow, but overall...good. Oh, and the cocktails very tasty! Definitely fry the mezcal one....yummyl
Will come back for sure..
