Fire and wood are transformative elements in the cooking process and in the atmosphere of the restaurant. Renata’s open kitchen with its stunning hearth and Italian pizza oven anchor the expansive dining room creating a warm and welcoming focal point for diners. The west side of the restaurant is flooded with natural light from striking accordion doors that in warmer weather, open up onto a large patio, where diners can enjoy alfresco dining inside and out.

The whole evening was fantastic -- great food in a great atmosphere.
I had heard some restaurants have a different level of service or approach to customers ordering off the Dining Month menu, that certainly appeared to be the case. The service staff was very stiff, and unwelcoming. We did not get asked if we were satisfied with our food, or if we needed anything. Requesting salt and pepper seemed to upset. I ordered an espresso which the waiter summarily dropped in front of me then stormed off, no sugar, or peel. Again requesting sugar seemed to be an affront.
Fabulous dining experience! What a great building Renata is located in. Very comfortable table which made us want to stay all night. Fabulous service and the food was TASTY TASTY NOM NOM NOM!!!! Our new favorite place to go in Portland. Thanks for an excellent experience!
We both had the Restaurant Month menu (so that was all the choices). They were all very good. Both main entrees were oversalted to our tastes, and one was significantly smaller than the other. The service was excellent. One thing l found annoying: made reservation and received confirmation (great), two days before a reminder/reconfirm (fine), another reminder the day before (are you serious?), and an hour before, a text message (VERY ANNOYING, UNTRUSTING and DISRESPECTFUL of customers)

Waited 30 minutes for a reserved table. Gave us a free cheese plate that wasn’t that good and not enough for the table to make up for it. Ran out of the dish I wanted and ended up with this weird fish ravioli thing that mediocre. Not sure what all the hype is about.
Food, as always was delightful. Nothing was a revelation this time around, but the food is always expertly prepared and delicious. Service is excellent, wine was well matched to the food and the cocktails were lovely.
I saw Retana on a Yelp recommendation, looked at the food and immediately booked a table for Saturday. From start to finish we had a great experience. From great apps and great drinks to the dinner. Will come again for sure.

The sheer ambiance of Renata is so enjoyable. The high ceilings, exposed beams, view of the fire, and rustic feel induce instant relaxation! The mixologist crafted elaborate cocktails, in which each ingredient was so expertly administered. The service we received was exemplary and the server recommendations and knowledge were spot on.! We were able to combine the offerings of the two characterize boards into one order. Its presentation was among the best we have encountered in Portland dining! Not only was it aesthetically pleasing, it was delicious! The entrees were delivered in a timely manner and were the portioned perfectly. The Pacchari was exquisite, the pasta the perfect amount of al dente. The Pork Chop was a large cut, cooked precisely, and of wonderful flavor. We could not indulge in desserts, however next time we will certainly plan to save room! Thank you for the wonderful dining experience!
My family loves Renata! We usually make it once or twice a year for someone’s birthday or a special occasion. The food is amazing, great wine selection as well.
Renata was amazing ! I can not wait to get back to Portland to dine there again. It is more than just food and wine - it is a culinary experience. To be able to eat fresh pasta, foul, fish, meat .... Not to mention all meats and foul are butchered on the premises with all parts used. The only thing Nick and is crew did not do is catch the trout that ate. But, maybe he did . Nick ?

My husband and I came for our Anniversary. We had heard great things about this place. Upon arrival, we changed our reservation to sit at bar overlooking food preparation. They were very accommodating . We should have done more research on menu as we are both Pescatarians and there wasn’t a whole lot of choices for us. On the menu, there was only one fish choice and their were many non meat dishes, but none of them Main dishes but sides or appetizers. We ordered bread, a celery root and apple salad, a side of Wood roasted carrots, a side of Gnocchi and a Margherita pizza . All of the food was tasty but nothing special. Perhaps our expectations were too high? After finishing our dinner, we noticed another patron eating a beautiful plate of crab. We never saw that on the menu . When asked, the waitress made it sound like he was a friend of the place who brought his own? I don’t know... confusing?
Would I return to this place? Probably not. Good but nothing to write home about.

This place has a cool ambiance. The food was nothing to write home about. My martini came in a cordial glass. The server was nice and good but other helpers clearing dishes and pouring water seemed clueless. Over priced. I’d probably go someplace else for the money.
Horrible. Went there for a multi course Valentine's day dinner for $75 each. Even though we had reservations, it took 20+ minutes to be seated. The food was terrible. The main we selected was dry-aged New York strip, which I was excited to try. It tasted like it was over seasoned and they coated it with some kind of super sweet soy based sauce. Why the hell anyone would pour that on a dry aged steak is beyond me. It tasted like a hot dog with teriyaki sauce. The desert was stale, as if it had been left out for hours. We will not be going back.

Great food and service!
This was our third or fourth visit to Renata, and it was our favorite visit so far. This time we ordered three different pasta dishes to split between two people, and each of them was delicious, beautiful, and generously-portioned. We look forward to visiting again soon. Perhaps, my biggest frustration with Renata is how quickly the menu changes. I review the menu on-line, make a reservation for a few days later, and then find that what I wished to order is no longer available. Also, there is no such thing as having a much-enjoyed dish again in the future. Of course, this same feature is also part of Renata's appeal to others.
Not worth the hype. First, we sat at 7:30. They were out of 3 menu items. By the time we ordered they were out of another and after we ordered we were informed one of our entrees was out too. This was the only vegetarian item (pasta) on the menu that wasn’t pizza. Portions were small and overpriced. The vegetable misto was interesting ... tasty but might had well have been eating air. Was an overall disappointment.
Wonderful date night experience! You can never go wrong choosing Renata! It’s consistently excellent service and food! Great ambiance!

Birthday celebration . Pretty good food. My husband thought his pizza needed more flavor in the sauce. The carrots were amazing.

We had reservations that we made a month in advanced. We got there and our room was ready. We waited 30 minutes to be seated and was told our room was not available. So we were crammed in a tiny area for 12 people. Then was moved after 15 minutes to the private room that suddenly was ours again. Our reservations were for 8:30. We did not get our food until 10:20 PM. We are very very disappointed with our experience and it is rare we get to get 12 close friends together out to celebrate a birthday. We will not be back.
Love this restaurant. Wonderful food, nice menu with lots of choices. We have always had amazing servers each time we visit. Never disappointed. A great place to eat!
First time back at Renata in mire than a year and it was much, much better than the last time! Skip the pizza, though, and stick with the other dishes - which are fantastic! We’ll definitely be back soon!
We came to Renata for our anniversary and the actual restaurant is lovely. We got there 25 mins early and so told the hostess we were gonna grab a drink at the bar, sat at the bar for a few mins with only two other couples present and weren't even greeted, eventually we placed our drink order but it took 20 mins to get our cocktails, and about the minute we got them we were told our table was ready so it was just an awkward experience at the bar, I think the bartender could have used some sort of barback or extra help as she was busy but very short with us. The cocktails were decent, I'd say the best part of our experience there. We are vegetarian so the menu was limiting, I could see the disappointment/annoyance in our servers face when she realized we would be ordering only the cheaper veggie options so that was also uncomfortable, overall the food was tasty enough, but we both felt that flavors clashed a bit, not a very refined menu and definitely over priced for what you can get at comparable restaurants in Portland. We did have a great table and I was very happy about that, secluded and to the side, so ambiance wise it was lovely.
Overall, I'm glad I experienced Renata's as I had heard a lot of hype, but I would just rate it as 'meh' I don't believe I'd be back.
Salads and cocktails were fabulous, but it went downhill from there. Pizza, ravioli and dessert were average at best. Definitely not worth the price tag.
Good food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
It’s was average. My food (chicken) was way too salty. Buckwheat noodles were fine but nothing special and the steak was great as was the dessert. The food did not match the price. It was pretty average.
Liked this place very much! The cocktails and food were amazingly delicious, and I saw lots of other plates I’d like to go back and try. The drinks from the bar came a little slow, along with the food, but it was a crowded Saturday night. I shy away from kale, just a fad I songbook like, but Renata made it delicious.
Menu is always changing, sometimes better than others. We had the potato pizza, which actually needed salt. The dishes were ok, but a little hit and miss this time. Crab salad was just ok, beet salad was good (everyone apparently has to have a beet salad on their menu these days). I would rather see some consistent home runs that stay on the menu (with some seasonal changes) than the lottery that seems to be their food. The oxtail pasta was killer good, but very rich.

Felt rushed with the prefixed menu. Servers didn’t wait long enough in between courses for us to enjoy
Service slow this time, kitchen troubles looked like; 3 out of the six menu items quite good; the others not so much. We’ve eaten here a few times and it’s been great; this time was a little disappointing.
