This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - Relais de Paris is modeled after a 19th century French Brasserie to create simple traditional French dishes using the best local and organic ingredients available in the Santa Barbara area.

Our specialty is our "Sauce Originale" which has been kept a secret since its creation in 1959. In addition to our well-known and famous "steak frites," we offer a range of bistro dishes and amazing desserts that are well-suited for all tastes. Our inviting atmosphere makes Relais de Paris an ideal place to enjoy a fine meal with friends, family and colleagues in a pleasant Parisian Brasserie setting.

Exceptional French Bistro on STATE STREET with a PATIO. Delicious food prepared with care, and skill. Superb fresh ingredients, and combinations. Beautiful French decor with bistro chairs and tables. I cannot say enough about this place. I am in sales, eating out is part of my lifestyle, this place sizzles! Every part of the meal is carefully executed, well presented, and service is ON POINT. I am happy to spend my money in this place and give such a glowing recommendation, they deserve it. Unfortunately, I have had many disappointments in Santa Barbara in the last decade. Too many restaurants with absent owners, weak managers, poor service, and irrelevant food. This place re-ignited my passion to dine in downtown SB. I tried no less than 7 dishes when I hosted this dinner. Everyone left satisfied, happy and excited to return. Well done...Well done! Viva La France.

The mussel entrée, with scores and scores of mussels in a really great, creamy sauce, were absolutely delicious. We took home the leftovers and they made two meals.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch at Relais. My husband loved his Croque Monsieur, our friend thought the burger was excellent. My salad was good but not remarkable.

My wife loves French bistros and we have been wanting to try this charming restaurant on State Street for some time. We finally went on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the dining experience. The menu is limited to staple bistro fare -- so there were no surprises -- but everything was prepared to utter perfection. My wife had Moule Frite (Mussels and Fries) which she loved. The mussels were the largest, plumpest and tastiest we've had. They had that subtle briny taste -- fresh from the sea. I had their specialty: Entrecote Steak, medium rare, and it too was close to perfection. Love their Sauce Originale. We have a new favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara and will be back!

One of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara (I'm a local). While everything is good, the French fries are the best-ever, and the bouillabaisse not to be missed.

Ambiance and service was wonderful. We ordered the Crock Monsieur and It was just bad too much bread, had the crust on, the cheeses were not melted, French Fries were not seasoned.

The Relais de Paris is a gem on State street. The food is delicious, the service is prompt and professional and the atmosphere is really lovely. This is real authentic French cuisine, made with high quality local ingredients. We live in LA and this restaurant compares very favorably with the best French restaurants in LA. I highly recommend it. This is our favorite place in Santa Barbara!

My fiancee and I went here for Valentine's Day. The weather was really nice so we decided to sit outside and watch people walking down State Street as the sun went down. The waitress was really gracious with helping us choose the wines and let us taste multiple glasses to find the right one. When the food arrived it was delicious; I tried escargot for the first time and actually loved it. Overall it was a very romantic date, but I would caution against going on Valentine's Day since you'll have to choose from the special menu with jacked-up through-the-roof prices (although this is common at a lot of high end restaurants).

Had a very good time at Relais de Paris. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty; wonderful ambiance and service. Location is ideal (mid-State Street) for shopping, strolling and taking in other downtown Santa Barbara activities. We'll definitely return.

A lovely French Bistro that I will happily return to.
We dined on a Sunday night and practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Our server Angel was attentive, charming, and had a nice sense of humor. It was hard to decide on our order as many entrees sounded appealing but we both ended up ordering the house specialty-- the "Formule Relais de Paris-- Entrecôte Steak." If you like beef, please order this delicious entree!

A mixed green salad comes with the entree and it was so fresh, light, and barely coated with a delicious dressing that it seemed as if they must have just picked the greens from the garden. Hard to believe a starter salad could be so tasty. The entree beef was perfectly cooked and tender. The portion looked very large but the beef is sliced very thin and I ate all of it without feeling stuffed. The "sauce originale" sounded a bit silly as Angel described it's top secret status and could only reveal a few of the ingredients when we asked him to describe the sauce. I am not a big sauce fan but it was excellent and worked so well with the beef. Flavorful with a light and smooth texture, I found myself dipping my pomme frites in the sauce as well! The sauce IS strangely addictive. The pomme frites were also addictive as they were crisply cooked to perfection. A great meal and I will dine here again on my next visit to Santa Barbara.

Well, it's the only French restaurant, but well worth visiting. I have been to France many times, and this is pretty close. Fabulous bar, nicely decorated, scrumptious food. They were in no hurry to turn the tables, so a relaxing, enjoyable evening was had by all. I'd definitely recommend it for date night.

Delicious foods and great service. They don't have a kids menu but you can find things on the menu for ages 5 and up. We had a delightful dinner there as a family and my 6 year old loved it.

If you are familiar with and like Relais de l'Entrecôte in Paris then you will love this restaurant. Beautiful sliced steak, or chicken, in the same sauce with a pile of frites and a simple salad to start. Just so good!!! Great ambience with French music playing. Wonderful service. Nice champagne by the glass too. Love having lunch here with my friends. Closest thing we have to Paris in SB.

Great steak frites and moules frites! Attentive and thoughtful service, but not overly so. Food is delicious now, but I hear they are importing a new chef straight from Paris in January 2016 and it should be even better! Great wines, reasonably priced. Not a full bar, yet, but they told us they've applied for the permits, so that should be coming in due course.

On the food level, the sauce for l'entrecote was overwhelmed by cinnamon -- very strange taste with steak -- not the original steak-frites you might have had before.
When we raised our concern/opinion, we were told the sauce is imported directly from France...not sure if this is true, but if so, they don't know from the real thing.
Service was polite, but disinterested and fake -- not outright unpleasant, just not there.
Our expectations were much higher, sorry to say.

Wonderful bistro with delicious steak frites and a varied menu! Many wines, both French and Californian, to complement the food. Service was outstanding! Our server, Angel, was attentive and friendly, but not overly so and quite knowledgeable of the wines offered. I hear they are importing a new chef from Paris in January 2016 and can't wait to go back and see what he brings to the table.

The restaurant might be good overall but I was not thrilled by this Thanksgiving dinner. The menu was not French inspired enough for me. The dishes were quite simple and did not justify the price. The goat cheese salad was not sophisticated to say the least and the "Entrecote" over powered by the spices and not cooked to order. The ambiance was very nice and staff quite accommodating. Wine selection was good as well. I went to many fancy French Restaurant in California in the past but this one did not stand out that night. Could have been a one time miss. May try again.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. It was a prix fixe menu with 4 appetizer selections, 4 entree selections and 4 dessert selections. The Entrecote steak was good as were the fries. My kids did not like the stuffing with their turkey dinners nor the dark meat served. The fondant aux chocolate was delicious. Best molten cake ever. They were very busy and some staff seemed new. There were some mix ups and near misses. Overall, it was a good experience.

I took my wife here for our anniversary. The atmosphere was what I had hoped, reminiscent of small restaurants in Paris. The restaurant has some great recipes. The disappointment was that the entrecote was poor quality meat that you had to chew chew chew. And, even though the server repeated back to me my order for water "avec gas," she brought two glasses of tap water. So, we had a mixed experience.

Wonderful. Straight forward menu and wine list, but hits all the right notes. Staff are welcoming and delightful. Steak frites with their proprietary sauce was well above average. Kronenbourg 1664 on tap along with three local brews. A compact list of reds from which to choose, but quality top to bottom. The menu is focused on quality over quantity. Just a very comfortable and cozy place that brings a piece of Paris to State Street. Price is quite reasonable. We had a splendid evening there and will definitely return.

Our party of 5 was welcomed about 8 on Sunday evening. They were very quiet that night but had the music loud. They kindly turned it down for us as one of our group wore hearing aides and it was rather overwhelming.
They had a small but good menu. Their chicken special is excellent! I had the entrecote and it was nothing special. It was served on a congealed green sauce that was not much in flavor. The fries were great. We tried the onion soup and found it a bit salty. The mixed greens salad with house dressing were excellent - not dripping in dressing.
A couple people had the two escargot appetizers: problems with each, but edible. One was served in snail shells but they had no pincers to grab the shells!!! Without they should be served without sells in the proper dish, that's fine and most often seen in France lately. The other was in a puff pastry shell which was very dense and soggy, overwhelming the sauce and delicate snails.
The spicy shrimp appetizer was enjoyed, but watch out - it is spicy! Someone also had the seafood entree mix and said it was wonderful. Arugula salad with warm Chevre toasts was good too. I can't recall what the last entree was but there was nothing left of it!
The decor is lovely and after several days of partying we were glad of a nice dinner, with good service and good food. The two servers were friendly and helpful. Is it new to State Street? We would go back sometime, but after a month in France this summer dining in similar kinds of restaurants it wasn't a standout for my husband and I.
