Regional Ratings and Reviews
Salad was great; pasta from menu excellent as were the lamb chops (always superior!). However, the special seafood pasta dish with lobster, etc. was a profound disappointment. $25 for maybe a square inch of lobster meat (if that) encased in a misleading shell, and a smattering of some other sea food things in a very uninspiring sauce. Sounded great when the waitperson told us about the specials, but OMG! what a rip-off. Didn't want to make a fuss, so didn't send it back.
Would recommend to a friend with a warning because usually things are wonderful.
There are very few good restaurants on the Upper West Side above 96 ST, this is one of them. It is our favorite spot when we don't want to take the subway somewhere. It is authentic Italian/Sicilian cuisine always well prepared and moderately priced. There are lots of pasta options for vegetarians. Our most recent visit was New Years Eve. It was bitter cold and Regional was the perfect place to ring in 2018. We walked to it. It was full and lively. There was live music (which was a nice surprise). It was all we wanted, and more, for a low key New Years Eve.
had been here several times awhile ago for dinner before Symphony Space and came this time with friends for brunch which is very popular here. hence, it is a bit hectic although the very hands-on owner keeps everything moving along. there are lots of children and even infants so if you want something more leisurely and low-key, this may not be the place for such a meal.
My friends and I enjoyed our dinner there, but it was very hard to hear with all the noise -- no effort has been made to put sound-absorbing ceiling tiles or space tables a little further apart. It's obviously a neighborhood hot spot (we heard brunches there are very popular) but we won't be coming back for dinner.
I have mixed feelings. Staff were very nice but did not come until called, even at the door when I first walked in. The oily bread with fresh tomatoes was absolutely delicious! The carpaccio was very good. The branzino wasn't very tasteful (I know, it was branzino!), and the lamb chops tasted reheated. All in all, dinner with my friend was an enjoyable experience, and I'd definitely go back.
Regional is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. It is both unpretentious and really delicious, with lots of options, very well priced, and great specials. Home made pasta dishes with lots of veggie and pescaterian options. Portions are generous but not overwhelming; service is lovely, and the wine list has interesting specials. We shared a tuna tartare app, a special salad, and a hanger steak main that was delicious. And because it was Wednesday, we shared a 1/2 price bottle of Primitivo, and our check came in at less than $100 for 2. Not bad for the UWS!
I avoid brunch here cause its too noisy and crowded. But its perfect for weekday dinners, especially if you can snag an outside table . The acoustics of the room could be better so if you have trouble with noise best to come early, late, or sit outside.
Solidly reliable. Good salad. Great pasta. Good weekday night specials. Neighborhood standby when craving a relaxing meal. First time for my dining partner and she enjoyed her ink pasta with seafood. I ordered the lemon linguini with shrimp and zucchini. Pasta was perfectly cooked and shrimp were too.
My friend and I meet here regularly on Wednesday evenings because it's a neighborhood spot for us both, the food is wonderful, and Wed eve offers half prices on select wines (it's perfect because we can talk for hours...and do)
We always share plates and the portions are plentiful so order 2-3 items. Go for the specials: the lamb chops (4!!) are regularly on the menu and really great, but recently we tried the lamb roast with mashed potatoes offered as a special, and it was delicious and generous. The special salad for summer - watermelon with burrata and sundresses tomatoes and artichokes - also a winner.
Dario (sp?) the owner is kind, gracious and charming. Highly recommend this spot if you want an overall lovely dining experience.
Went to celebrate graduation. Got there a little before they opened and they graciously obliged us and we were seated shortly. Our waitress was very patient and knowledgeable. All of the food was delicious! From the crispy calamari to the short ribs with risotto paired with a lovely Chianti. Desert was also satisfying. The owner even came over to chat and offer congratulations. As overall warm, pleasant atmosphere that I completely recommend.
5/14/17. Mothers Day
Regional should not be on Open Table... reservations were meaningless; you could book a table there even an hour earlier for a 1pm seating time... they didn't keep track and had no idea if you had a reservation or not
Hostess unruly and unable to deal with all the people who showed up expecting to see the inside of the restaurant...
We ended up going elsewhere...
One of the worst experiences ever. Food took over an hour to come out, while people who were seated after us were served before us and we had no alterations to anything we ordered. After 45min of waiting I asked the waiter whats going on"it coming", 20 min later to the matre de, "it coming" should have left as they forgot tout your order in. Pure chaos and saw another party complaint while another party just left. If you can't provide good service do not overbook.
Regional is truly a precious find. This cuisine spans the Italian regions and brings the tastiest menu to NYC. My husband and I enjoyed a delicious salad with pear, goat cheese with textures of flavor. My husband and I shared a pasta that was from the southern region of Italy. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. Dessert was absolutely over the top: Tiramisu was the BEST that I've had since we traveled to Sicily. Service was exemplary and knowledgeable. Mondays all pasta is $9 and Tuesday three course meal is $25. What a deal! And Wednesday there are wines at half price.
