Great location and views , pls note , from the bandstand you have to go up the steps at the leftside of a cafe which appears to say Fishermans wife on its front , the restaurant is above it . We live in the north east so we are used to very good fish and chips , but the fish and batter here was superb and chocolate fudge cake was best i've had with ice cream and plenty of it . We booked in advance and asked for a sea view table which i recommend . I hadn't been to Whitby for years , we used to go to the Magpie and eat it from the paper on the quayside wall opposite ,thats all gone with new dock units ,fencing and locked gates , so there is nowhere to sit with your takeaway ,much better up at the pier and beach end with plenty of tables and raiding seagulls ! ,anyway old age has driven us inside the restaurants to sit in comfort ,I looked at 3 highly rated ones ,Trenchers ,Magpie and Fisherman , Trenchers is on a busy roundabout , Magpie won't take bookings 12-2 , Fisherman has sea views and takes bookings 12 -2 ,I absolutely made the right decision and I recommend it to you .

Excellent service outstanding food would recommend

Excellent food - way above the other options in Whitby - I have no idea why this place is not higher in tripadvisor - I went to a couple of the others high on their website and they were no way as good as this place - excellent service and excellent food.
