Reel Seafood Co Ratings and Reviews
Every time we return lately we are more impressed. They've added a lot of new items to the menu, so you will not get bored. They have a new pecan (almond?) encrusted grouper with a leek cream sauce over mashed potatoes. I opted to skip the nuts and just had the grouper grilled but with the rest of the ingredients. It was delicious! The leek sauce had very thin leek frizzles on top. One of the other guests fish dishes came out cold, but the server brought it back in immediately and came right back out with it the appropriate temp. It was a very busy night (Friday in Lent) so no points lost for one cold dish. The other dishes were great. Staff is great about accommodating changes to the menu.
We had a great dinner. The chowder is amazing and their salads are beautiful and fresh. We can also recommend the cioppino. Reel Seafood is a restaurant that thankfully still serves complimentary bread and it's a highlight unto itself. The rolls come piping hot with three accoutrements -- olive oil/vinegar, whipped butter, and then a special butter (this night, it was blackberry and disappeared quickly). The service is wonderful. The ambiance is comfortable and friendly, but nice for a special occasion.
Reel Seafood was a real pleasure to dine at. I had the LeGrande special - shrimp, haddock and scallops with beurre blanc. The entree was perfectly cooked and tasted very fresh. My wife had fish and chips which had a lovely light crust and an excellent flavor.
This was our first visit to Reel Seafood and we will not return.
We had a reservation, seated late.
The main room was way too bright with lighting, so we sat in a smaller room which was much nicer, but not a lot of seating. The menu was very expensive for the amount of food included, only 1 side dish. My husband's fish was very dry and he needed to ask for sauce to flavor it.
The kitchen was backed up and the server apologized a few times, but never offered to give us anything complimentary during our wait & we had asked, since she kept asking us if we wanted anything.
We will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I was in the Albany area for business and picked this restaurant based on the online reviews. I was a bit disappointed. The clam chowder should be labeled "potato chowder" (potato pieces were numerous and cut too large; you had to really search to find a piece of clam). For my entree, I ordered the sesame tuna. The waiter said "we serve it rare, is that OK with you?". I said of course. The presentation of the dish was excellent and the flavors were superb BUT, the tuna was cooked MEDIUM at best! So, food not bad, but they have work to do to get above 3 stars.
Very nice meal. I don't like to write reviews and usually get bored reading them, I'll make mine short.
Appetizers: steamed clams were cooked perfectly, king crab legs also cooked perfectly and were delicious, clam chowder and butternut bisque outstanding. We were starving. We also love to cook which is why we rarely eat out.
Entrees: Diver scallops for wife, I got the almond encrusted grouper. I picked my entree from looking at the table near us. They all got that entree and it looked marvelous.
The scallops were fantastic, the grouper was ok. It was missing flavor but was good. To me it looked like it was going to be awesome, so I was a little disappointed.
We had wine for drinks and water.
Dessert: tiramisu, outstanding! Two things about this night were fascinating
1. The amount of food two folks our age can consume
2. How really terrific everything was, from soup to nuts as the saying goes.
Our server was top notch, very attentive and pleasant. Wonderful!
We decided to give the place a try, my wife made reservations using open table and to my surprise it worked perfectly.
The whole experience was terrific.
Not only was our food cold when it arrived but my chilean sea bass was not cooked properly. The waiter was helpful in assisting me with a replacement in which I choose the stuffed haddock. When it arrived, all I saw was a plate full of bread stuffing dumped on top of the fish. Not wanting to send it back, all that was worth eating was the fish. Our waiter Peter appeared to be a little frazzled and rushed as he worked the room. Felt he should have at least asked if we needed anything else before running off. Overall, this was my 2nd time eating here and my last. What should have been a good date night for my fiance and I, ended up being a disappointment.
We went for New Year's Eve. With reservations we still waited 15 minutes for our table. As a couple we were seated in the loudest part of the restaurant, despite the fact I chose date night while making the reservation. I have never felt so rushed at a restaurant before. Once seated we irserrd wine, an appetizer and our entree. We had just eaten one piece of our Appetizer and the entree arrived. From being seated to entree, no lie, 20-30 minutes. The seafood lasagne my husband had was really good.
The almond encrusted Grouper I had, left a lot to be desired. It was over cooked, the sauce was bland and the mashed potatoes were an after thought. At least the raw Oyster selection was fantastic as usual. Our waitress was great. It'll be awhile before we go back.
It was our first time dining out on Christmas Eve and we weren't really sure what to expect. The table reserved for us through Open Table was perfect, the service was excellent (personable, attentive and thoughtful) and the food was superb. A great evening and a memorable meal made for a holiday event.
First impression was bad. Three women at the reception desk and not one would look up to acknowledge us. Finally, the youngest of the three escorted us to our table. Our waitress, Christine, was so much more cordial than the hostess. But as soon as a table of eight showed up, our tiny table for two became unimportant, as did my urge to tip. No big deal. I’m sure the table of eight made up for that. Merry Christmas! Food was very good. No complaints there. Will probably not return next time we are in town.
I have to say I was so disappointed in temperature (Very Cold) of the area we sat in next to a window.
The food was excellent and our waitress was Great. I told the waitress about being cold and she said that she would turn the heat up. I found out later from the manager when I asked again that the heat was not working the day before and that it still was not fixed the day after???
Being cold was not what I wanted when paying a lot of money for a meal. I feel that they knew that something was wrong with this area and they still sat us here when they could have placed us in and area that had heat.
I sat and ate my meal with a coat on not enjoying my meal due to the cold.
I feel that Reel Seafood let us down. We were looking for a nice dinner together instead the two of us froze.
Have to say this was unacceptable!!!! to us and just maybe the last time we ever go here. Guess what is really disturbing is that they knew their was not heat yet they still seated us in and area on a cold night next to a window with not hear in the area !!!!!!!
Not the way customers should be treated!!!!
My overall experience was awful. My husband ordered the Oscar Omelet that was asparagus, crab and Gouda with a hollandaise sauce. The asparagus was undercooked, no Gouda and no sauce. My home fries were cold and undercooked. My son’s chicken fingers were so tough he had to chew it with his chocolate milk. There was little to no interaction with the waitress, Santa came by our table more often than she did.
As always, the service was great, as was the dish I ordered. The Lobster Risotto was delicious, as was the clam chowder. My Table Attendant was courteous and attentive, but not hovering. Their rolls are warm and fresh and there is almost always an interesting selection of specialty butters to go with them.
