Red Stripe Ratings and Reviews
My coworker and I asked a patient for a recommendation in the Providence area for a great restaurant. Red Stripe instantly came up. He said he had been there often with his family and was never disappointed. My coworker went there with her mom on Saturday at 4:30 , I had plans to go there at 7 to meet long lost friends. She texted me "everything was AWESOME " after her dining experience and we found it to be true as well. Loved the window seat looking outside. Food, service great. Yes, kinda loud (people just having a good time!) and not the easiest parking but so worth it. Ill be back. 😊Danielle C.
The menu was recently redone but they’ve kept the best including the kitchen sink salad and steak frites. Generally the food is good and I have had few complaints. This last visit the waitress was rather badly trained and we seldom saw her. This is a common theme with Red Stripe.
I didn't love my meal as much as I usually do here. Not sure why. We brought family here and everyone said food was good not great. Maybe because it was a Sunday night? Our server was great (can't recall his name). We will be back and hopefully it will be the quality we are used to.
This place has really gone downhill. Used to be a favorite for my wife and I but after our last visit I regret to say that we will not be going back. Made a reservation and when we arrived we were brought to the farthest table in the back of the entire restaurant. Mind you, it was early and the dining room was half empty. We requested a new table to which the manager begrudgingly obliged, stating that the open tables were “special reservations”. So our experience hadn’t started great but we moved on, but it quickly because obvious that this pace had really changed for the worse. The food was not up to par with what we’ve come to expect at Red Stripe. We both had dishes with shellfish and most of the clams and muscles were full of sand. Our baked to order giant cookie desert was completely burnt and a half hearted attempt to cover it up was made with an abundance of whipped cream. That was sent back. At that point we were so disappointed that we chose to have it removed from the bill instead of getting a replacement. There are too many good options in Providence to go back here.
Menu was deceiving. Salad with ‘heirloom’ tomatoes came with a few small grape tomatoes and some mozzarella pearls. Way overdressed. Entree was meh. Potato purée was basically a lump of cold mashed potatoes. Haricots vert were ordinary green beans. My wife’s was better. Bread is fabulous.
The restaurant is acceptable in every respect except it much too noisy. For years I have avoided it for intimate or business conversations or largish groups for that reason. This Sunday I met two friends there for brunch. The food was good, the service excellent, but the noise was almost unbearable. It seems intentional to make the restaurant feel busy even when there are a number of empty tables. Tile floor; metal ceiling and metal pieces on the walls; open kitchen. I know I'm not the only person who complains about this. It will be a long time -- if ever -- before I return again.
Good food and okay service. The server was extremely busy with at least four large tables at once and some items and details were forgotten. My meal, hamburger and fries, was cold on delivery but it was good. I did not want to make a scene in front of my new friends so I just ate it. Three at our table really enjoyed their meals and the other three commented that their meals were fine. We have now eaten here four times and two were okay and two were quite good. We have had better luck with just appetizers. With many excellent restaurants in Providence, we're going to look elsewhere next time.
Frankly I was disappointed. I thought the food and service were just average. Wine was reasonably priced. Food was reasonably priced as well. I had Cioppino and my daughter had Steak Frites. Again, okay but nothing special. Ordered crab cakes for appetizer, they mistakenly brought two orders, and as they should have only charged us for one. Is a decent neighborhood restaurant but definitely not a destination. Would go again but would not be a top choice.
Our evening started off very good. Amanda was our waitress. She was very attentive at first and then after our meals were served she would disappear for long stretches of time. We were given dessert menus and were going to split something but she took so long to return that we said forget it. Our bill took forever to come and to process.
Absolutely horrific experience. Food did not come out as requested. My father ordered his steak medium well, it came out rare. I asked for my daughter’s steak to be good well done. It came out half well done and half medium ( still bleeding..) when I asked if it could just get grilled a bit more, it came out burnt to a crisp. Mind you, that was 20 minutes later when the rest of us had finished eating. And I watched the cook staff , they weren’t exactly too busy to check on it. The server stated “ we wanted to make sure if was cooked enough for you.”
Should have known it was going to be a bad experience. When we sat down my husband asked for a new glass of water since his had food al over the side , and never got it. Never again. Not exactly sure why this restaurant has been rated as well as it has.
Something has happened at Red Stripe, and it's not good news. Our brunch this past Sunday was quite inferior to our approximately 10 prior meals at this restaurant. The staff was distracted, from the front station through our actual meal service. The food, which had always been a highlight of our visits, was indifferent at best. Four in our party had bowls of tomato soup that, although quite tasty, were portions that filled slightly more than half of the bowls. The chicken sandwiches that followed, were tough and tasteless. I ordered an omelet, "the forager", with added tomatoes and spinach. I requested that the omelet be prepared "moist" but it arrived dry, lukewarm, and with distinctly unfresh frites. At $19, it seemed overpriced, overlooked, and underwhelming. The server was competent but not very interested in our dining needs. When I asked for a second iced tea, the server merely added some tea to my iceless glass and walked away.
We have used Red Stripe as a "go to" restaurant when visiting relatives in Providence, but they are now out of heavy rotation.
The food was very good. In the past we had only been here for lunch so we decided to go for dinner. Our server was very good and attentive. Sadly we weren't aware of the noise level. It was too loud for a group of 5 to carry on a conversation. We do like the restaurant and will definitely go back but we would not go when our intention is for everyone to converse.
I was not impressed. I heard some good things so we gave it a try. We were placed at a wobbly table and the food was bland. Actually that's an understatement. It literally had zero flavor. How does Short Rib Bourguignon not have flavor? When I asked to take back the mac and cheese and bring me some fries, I was given what I would call day old Mcdonalds fries. We all know what those taste like. It was also really loud. Decent service. If you decide to go....bring extra salt.
Ordered the beef stroganoff. There were four small pieces of meat and the meal was practically tasteless at a whopping $24. Friend ordered fish & chips. One piece of fish was not fully cooked. I was surprised at the lack at quality at this visit. Left disappointed and hungry.
GREAT dinner at Red Stripe! Food was amazing and our server, Casey, was the BEST!!! She was very attentive to our group (6 adults and 1 baby). Five women ordering lots of drinks and Casey was on it! Gave great receommendations and treated us like we were her only table. She made our dining experience superb!
excellent service, our server Eric was very charming and very knowledgeable about the menu. the food was delicious and prepared perfectly. highly recommend for casual night out with friends, date night or a family dinner. we would be regulars if we lived closer!
