About Red Stripe
Red Stripe is a traditional brasserie with an edge. Classic, and unique. Red Stripe has the distinction of being upscale yet relaxed, where you will find people from all walks of life enjoying their dining experience. Red Stripe serves comfort food with a French influence – simple in context, yet refined in taste. Food that is reasonably priced and made with passion! Come try one of our originals – like the mouth watering Red Stripe Grilled Cheese, made with prosciutto, poached pear and pesto; accompanied by our oven roasted tomato soup or hand cut frites and aioli (surely unlike any grilled cheese you’ve had before) or our wide selection of moules (ten to be exact!) always a house favorite!
Red Stripe is located on the East Side of Providence in bustling Wayland Square and was recently awarded “Best Neighborhood Restaurant” by Rhode Island Monthly.

Red Stripe Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went for New Years Eve. Made a reservation ahead of time and was seated right away. The seating for two can be cramped because the tables are very, very close together. We personally do not like that because we prefer a bit more privacy and intimate. The restaurant itself is beautiful and I love the open kitchen. Both of our entrees were very good but the highlight was the mussel dish. I read the Red Stripe is known for their array of mussel dishes and we went with our waitresses recommendation: The Red Stripe Moules. It was very, very good. I can see myself going back and getting the mussels just for myself as a dinner. Overall a great experience and will be coming back.
Nice round table for party of 7. Baked Brie, deviled eggs and buffalo appetizers all well done. Bottles of wine reasonably priced and service by Monica was excellent. For entrees: mussels were exceptional, burgers very good, kitchen sink salad excellent but salmon was quite over cooked.
I've been to Red Stripe (RS) numerous times and usually enjoy it. For many years we have visited on Christmas Eve since most restaurants aren't open and RS is. The past few years have not been particularly good, however. This year we got stuck in a corner table next to a service station; there was hardly room to move. Also the kitchen had run out of my first menu choice. Service, as you might expect, was no more than fair. Not a very pleasant evening I'm afraid. I don't think we will do this again.
I was very angry. We’ve spent thousands of dollars at Red Stripe and we were celebrating with friends. We’re from NYC - visit often and Ref Stripe was our go to for an informal dining experience in Providence.
Friends drove in from Boston - we were having a lovely time when we were rudely rushed out as there was another reservation. Understandable - but that’s where style comes into play...instead of kindness - rudeness.
I guess the generous tip was not enough....
Riches to rags in one night.
Service was excellent - Thanksgiving food was only so-so. Turkey was overdone, stuffing a bit too sweet and the desserts were sub-par (my bread pudding was more like a rubber bread brownie). I have eaten here before and enjoyed the food very much. All in all, my family and I still had a good time, it was a very relaxed atmosphere and, again, our server was awesome!
We were there for what was apparently Red Stripe's first Thanksgiving and clearly they have some things to work out before doing it again. 12PM seating and many of us were outside freezing waiting for the doors to open, so lost opportunity for them to have us all wait with drinks at the bar!
The food when it arrived was basically room temperature, obviously reheated but barely. Dry turkey that appeared to be sliced yesterday with a tasteless gravy. The pumpkin pie crust was inedible and raw, not blind baked in advance of custard which is how it's supposed to be. We had to ask for coffee after dessert was thrown down at the table.
A friend of mine at JWU said that Seiler's recently took over the kitchen, so in retrospect the food tasted a little basic institutional etc and that may be the core of the problem. Everyone used to rave about this place, but it's just basic and ordinary and we sat there wondering where we should have gone for dinner instead. C'est la vie!
I was disappointed that the hostess failed to show that we honored our open table reservation. As a result, I had to explain to open table that we did in fact honor our reservation. The hostess should be more careful if they are going to use open table.
My coworker and I asked a patient for a recommendation in the Providence area for a great restaurant. Red Stripe instantly came up. He said he had been there often with his family and was never disappointed. My coworker went there with her mom on Saturday at 4:30 , I had plans to go there at 7 to meet long lost friends. She texted me "everything was AWESOME " after her dining experience and we found it to be true as well. Loved the window seat looking outside. Food, service great. Yes, kinda loud (people just having a good time!) and not the easiest parking but so worth it. Ill be back. 😊Danielle C.
