Red Stripe is located on the East Side of Providence in bustling Wayland Square and was recently awarded “Best Neighborhood Restaurant” by Rhode Island Monthly.
Food standards have declined hugely. Wait staff are wonderful but food is very disappointing.
My husband ordered the short ribs and found the dish to be extremely satisfying. I ordered the the Winter salad, French fries, and butternut squash arancini, with marinara sauce. These are my favorite items on the menu and usually provide two meals (one to take home) as the portions are generous. Unfortunately my meal was lackluster. The salad was overwhelmed with greens, skimpy on the apples and nuts and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to have crumbled blue or Roquefort cheese which it did not. I ordered my salad with dressing on the side, the first one came with and our server immediately replaced it. The arancini was mostly rice with a few tiny bits of butternut squash. The last time I ordered this dish it was generously and deliciously laced with butternut squash. Overall, it was an off night, but this would not keep us from returning as this is one of our neighborhood restaurants which we enjoy very much. Service is always excellent!
Menu gives many excellent choices. Food is well prepared and service is efficient and friendly. Great dining experience
Not a bad restaurant, the mussels were incredible, the burger and grill cheese ah so so! Not horrible, not great, the salad was really tasty. Great drinks, I would go back and get something else.
Tuesday night a slow night at restaurant. Section with high top tables not even open so were seated in a small booth in the back. Shared the Greco mussels as appetizer, love the fennel. Crab cake sandwich was huge, but crab cake appetizer only 2 small cakes, plenty for this diner. No room for dessert tonight. When bill came, the half-price bottle of wine special had not been deducted, and when the corrected bill arrived, it had automatically been charged to our credit card when we had wanted to pay cash. Luckily the honest waiter chased us down on the sidewalk and gave us our money back. Still checking to see if the original incorrect charge will be billed to our credit card.
My associate and I met 2 people for lunch on 3/19/19. They loved the ambiance and 'vibe' of the restaurant. Our waitress/ server was spectacular. Just the right amount of attention and pace to the meal. Everybody was served appetizers at the same time, and the presentation of the meals was top shelf. I will definitely return and certainly recommend to co-workers. thanks very much.
I have been to Red Stripe 100 times and was surprised by the quality of the meals and the service on St. Patrick’s Day. Not rushing back.
Excellent corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day.
We’ve been here a zillion times and it’s progressively worse the last few years. This last meal was inedible - salmon was overcooked, sweet potato crouton was dry and tasteless, and the rabe was stringy and tough. Even the steak frites, which is usually okay, was disgusting. Despite the great location and easy reservation availability, I’ve vowed never to return. So many better options in Providence.
Great casual dining with wide ranging choices on the menu. Service is very good, and the quality of the food is great. Only problem is noise, just be prepared to talk louder.
I requested the back room because it’s quieter than the main dining room. Our waitress was attentive and fun. The drinks potent and dinner was plentiful.
My wife and I had lunch and ordered three mezzes--brussel sprouts (terrific), broccoli rabe (very savory) and the brie and mushroom tart (just OK) along with coconut mussels (yummy) and a bridge or stomach too far--shepherd's pie (enoungh for two, but too many peas and quite bland; it could use some good red wine to perk it up). The Fransciscan chardonnay was a nice accompaniment .
We were meeting a friend that we had’t seen in over 10 years. Much to catch up on. Our waiter was excellent and let us chat. We never felt rushed or ignored. It was the perfect balance of interaction. Food was excellent as always.
lunch time is a much better experience. the restaurant was very crowded and noisy. It was difficult for our server to keep up but she did her best
Red Stripe is one of the hidden gems of Wayland Square. Brilliant menu, never had a bad dish there. Prompt, attentive, friendly service. It's a wee tiny bit on the pricier side, but is absolutely worth every penny.
Easy to get a reservation last minute on a Friday night. Service was good and our meal was delicious.
Our server was superb (I unfortunately don't recall her name).
Dinner before a James Taylor concert
We love Red Stripe and as PPAC subscribers usually go there before our play. Saturday night I ordered the Pork Shnitzel it was very over cooked and so dry I could hardly eat any. My husband ordered soup as an appetizer and immediately was brought his entree which was difficult to place on the table with the soup. We felt rushed and ignored which has never happened before. Not a good night. So disappointed
Amazing!!! $3 Red Stripe can't beat that!! The clam chowder was delicious!!
Brussel sprouts, Parmesan truffle fries and great steak.
Food was absolutely amazing and the ambiance is fun relaxed will definelty go back as well recommend it!
Caesar salad nicely split for us to share. Yummy sourdough bread nice accompaniment. Clams and linguini delicious as always and not too overly garlic-y. Pumpkin ravioli very tasty but rather overpowered by too much sauce on top! Portion just the right size - no leftovers. No room for dessert other than decaf cappuccinos expertly prepared by our server!
Great neighborhood joint that's always lively. Menu has something for everyone — from steamed mussels to short ribs to salads. Noise level can be intrusive but back room is quieter.
Birthday celebration , food was good & service was great
PC parents weekend
Went for our daughters birthday with 7 people everyone had something different and everything was very good. Would definitely come back
I wish red stripe was easier for non profits to partner with, but for a weekend lunch - it was great!
Ordered Thursday Special, burger and beer $9.99. Burger was over cooked. Fries were delicious.
So many choices, all delicious
Food was excellent as was our server, the bar seemed a little slow but restaurant was packed. The noise level is the only negative, but the “open kitchen” adds to the ambiance in a very positive way. I definitely recommend dining at Red Stripe.
Food was amazing! They have an open kitchen, very loud.
Service was slow. Had to wait almost 40 minutes for food. Server could have been more attentive. Lots of noise.
The Red Stripe burger was outstanding. All 5 of us really enjoyed the food.
We sat at a round table and it was easy to converse: even though the room was close to full, the noise level wasn't an issue.
Near the end of the meal a half full beer glass was knocked over. The wait staff was so quick to clean it up that I kiddingly said to one of the woman "What are you some sort of Ninja Waitress?". The staff is very friendly
Definitely recommend for lunch and/or dinner
Everything was great!
Excellent all around!
This was our third visit to Red Stripe and was our best so far. The food and service were both great. Well done.
My friend said that the crab sandwich was missing something. My food was excellent.
The food here is so unique and always delicious. This place never lets me down
