Red Stag Grill-Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville Ratings and Reviews
The food was amazing & the server Ryan was very familiar with the menu & the wine pairings. We don’t eat at restaurants like this everyday & wanted our $$$ meal night to be special. The Elk was probably the best thing I have ever had at any restaurant. There was a table of businessmen/ women at another table that were so loud we couldn’t have a conversation. They were yelling to each other rather than talking. The other tables were having to speak louder to hear each other over them. Our server couldn’t hear us at times nor us him. I wish that we could have had a better experience for the small fortune it was for us to enjoy that unbelievably delicious food and wine.
What a good evening! My husband and I went to Asheville for a couple of days, and had a good time. One of the best meals we had was at the Red Stag. Cozy, romantic atmosphere, great service by Kareen, food and drinks good. We had wine, she crab soup, elk loin - all excellent. Live music - guitarist singing. We have not yet stayed at the Grand Bohemian but plan to next time we go!
We have had problems with this restaurant's service in the past and always say we will not go back. However, the incredible food keeps bringing us back.
We just celebrated Valentine's Day here. The meal was outstanding from start to finish. Our waiter, Harrison, was friendly and quite knowledgeable about the menu and paced the meal well. The Red Stag Grill is back on our "A" list.
Outstanding cuisine. Our meals were excellent- the rib eye steaks may have been the best we have ever eaten. Highly recommend the gnoochi and the pear and endive salad. Service was very good- especially notable given this was Valentine's which for restaurants is one of the busiest nights of the year. The ambiance in the restaurant (and the entire hotel) is very nice. An added plus is the art gallery in the hotel which is a wonderful place to visit before dinner.
Did not enjoy our meal at all was told it was a limited menu for Valentine's day but as we were leaving people at the bar we're eating of the regular menu. Portions were small, my steak was served cold while my dates was extremely under cooked. Even the dessert was not very tasty. I will never be back and not sure how they stay in business being across the street from Ruth Chris that never drops the ball extremely disappointed.
Excellent service , ambiance and food. I was very disappointed when I submitted my $50.00 Open Table Rewards Card the staff would not accept it and stated they were not set up for redemption even though I could make my reservation with them with the coupon tied to this restaurant and reservation by open table. So I essentially lost $50.00 because I can’t get it back. Very disappointing and disturbing.
My husband and I enjoyed a late evening dinner for a combo anniversary, Valentine and special birthday ( cough cough 50th). I chose the Chef's tasting menu and was so pleased with the mouth watering flavor of every bite! If you've never had elk, I heartily recommend it! You will not be disappointed! And chef's carrot cake, his grandmother's recipe, was not overly sweet, beautiful finish! The ambience and service were top notch and we will be back!
Food was absolutely amazing and more than worth the price. We met our in-laws for a special occasion and had a great meal that everyone fully enjoyed. The restaurant was slow, but there was a large party in the other room that was loud but that obviously wasn’t the restaurant’s fault. Service was standard, but nothing I would call exceptional. We will definitely be back!
We went for a birthday lunch & had a great experience. It was very quiet after the large table left. I ordered a glass of champagne & once our waiter found out it was my birthday, said it was on the house! Such a nice surprise! She was very knowledgeable & personable. The food was delicious and the calamari was the best we've had! Will definitely go again!
I arrived for a 2:30 for lunch. I was seated but Waited close to 5-10 minutes for service, except I did get water. I finally ordered, they aren’t busy. It took close to 10 minutes for a class of wine to arrive, the salad came about 10 minutes later and finally entree followed which came about the right the time. I enjoy their shrimp and grits and these were good but a bit salty. I will go back and give them another chance. Dinner seems to be the better time to go. Better everything
We arrived about 15 minutes earlier than the reservation. The weather was not great, so the restaurant was not even a quarter full. They would not seat us until the exact time of our reservation. This is not a big deal, but one member of our party has very visible mobility issues that she uses a cane for. We sat in the lobby for 15 minutes, and it was fine. It was a little irritating because there were plenty of places to sit in the restaurant.
Experience was all around very pleasant. I received an email today however from OpenTable saying we did not make our reso and that we negatively impacted the restaurant.. we showed up for our 9:00 reso right on time and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
This is the first time we have had a poor experience at Red Stag. Unfortunately we brought friends. Perhaps it was staff fatigue on the last day of Restaurant Week. Whatever the reason it was terrible all around. We were served entrees before appetizers. When we pointed out the mistake the server acted put out. Then came the missing apps, two of which were pate. No bread. We were told they ran out. Half way through mains bread arrived stale and hard. What???? Total disaster. Something was very wrong. Not the Red Stag I have always loved.
We visited as part of Asheville Food Week with our friends and were extremely pleased with our experience. Food was great, service with a smile and with the Bavarian hunting lodge atmosphere made us feel at home. Parking was great but it took us a while and phone call to figure out the entrance and that valet parking was free (tips appreciated) if you had your vehicle check stamped. I would recommend websites be updated.
The atmosphere is wonderful which set the expectations even higher upon arrival. Unfortunately the food wasn't in the league with the ambiance. The steaks were over cooked and nothing special. It was Outback level steak being served in a much superior setting. Go there for drinks with an appetizer, but prepare yourself for disappointment with the entrees.
We enjoyed a dinner at the Red Stag Grill on 1/20/18. The atmosphere is hunting lodge chic and the theme is carried out nicely throughout the restaurant as well as the lobby and public spaces of the Grand Bohemian hotel in Asheville, NC where it is located. We were greeted and shown to our table right on time, which is what we experienced on the other occasions we dined there, the last on Thanksgiving. The lightning is romantic so instead of making patrons use their smart phones to peruse the menu, they provided back lite menus. Brilliant! A first for is us and here is hoping others do the same. Back to the meal. We both started with a locally sourced squash bisque topped with pumpkin seeds, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes, and topped with creme fraiche - delicious and an excellent way to start a meal on a cold day. Oh and lets not forget the warm house- made delicious breads served with sweet cream butter. My husband chose an amazing thick pork chop that was perfectly cooked and served with greens and sweet potato puree. I enjoyed a filet that was served as i requested - medium with red in the center. I selected bernaise sauce and mashed potatoes. This amazing meal was accompanied by a delicious 2013 Duckhorn Merlot which worked perfectly. We waved the white flag on dessert and took home a ‘doggy bag’ filed with steak and pork chop! Our wait person was personable , professional while not being intrusive. She is a recent arrival from the great state of Minnesota and a welcome one at that.
