Firstly, I do not like to give bad reviews but feel justified that in a restaurant such as this where the surroundings are magnificent but the food ( in my view) is only average at best.
To start, We were shown to a corner table by Kellie where the only view I had was a wall. This would be acceptable if the restaurant was either very busy or full, but there were maybe 12 people sitting for dinner in a very large and opulent restaurant area. The attitude and professionalism as shown by Kellie left a lot to be desired as, having brought us silently to the table then abrubtly left without asking were we happy!
It was left to a truly magnificent and utterly professional server called Corine to organise another table where we could enjoy the atmosphere.
Now to the food. My wife ordered the premium tasting menu and it must be said that the presentation and taste was first class. However, I ordered braised shoulder of lamb from the a la carte menu and it arrived warm at best with more fat and grizzle than meat. Desert consisted of 3 flavours of home made ice cream which was quite tasty and acceptable.
Our overall experience was dulled by a very unprofessional restaurant receptionist and ( in my case) below expected food standards.
I also note from reading other less than complimentary reviews that the response from this restaurant is the exact same standard response. I would think that a restaurant which should pride itself on first rate customer care would at least take the time to personalise their response to individual concerns and criticisms.
I would also like to compliment the barman who we found to be knowledgeable, attentive, friendly and professional in all his dealings with us and other customers.

The lunch menu as one steak, it is 3 oz petite filet. Disappointed there was not more steak selections at lunch.

Filet was undercooked. They were out of my wine selection and substituted it without asking me. The char was so salty it was hard to swallow and the barley with peas and mushrooms was undercooked. I was disappointment in the entire experience

The ambiance of the restaurant is unique making the dining experience more than just eating. It almost felt like living a life far removed from an everyday event. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and was personable. He was also very attentive to our needs. The food was excellent. My meat was a tender Bison Ribeye, which was a new experience having never eaten Bison before.

At $75/person we expected a little more than buffet-only service.

A wonderful Mother's Day Brunch but pricey. We didn't realize that gratuity was included so we added a tip to the bill. W had great service but should have caught this before paying.

The food and the service at the Red Stag are excellent. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting and the Elk is superb!
I live in Asheville, so I’ve never stayed in the hotel, but I think it’s probably lovely and the location is fantastic.
The Red Stag is a great place to go for any celebrations. It’s on the pricey side but it never disappoints.

Beautiful hotel. We picked this place for our 25th anniversary. I added that to my notes. We gave ourselves an hour and a half to eat and get to a show. There was a large party ahead of us. We had 2 appetizers that were ok at best. An hour and a half later, we had our entree packed to go, which we never got to eat.
We will plan better for 26.

I personally wasn’t too impressed with the red stag grill. This was our first time coming to the restaurant and when we walked into the restaurant to the hostess desk the chef was waiting behind the desk. My husband asked if this is where we would check in if we had a dinner reservation. He just stared at us both and didn’t answer. This food was decent but I wouldn’t go back and pay $100 for another meal again. Overall we had a poor experience.

Great experience. Food is creative, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. I had the tasting menu with wine pairings—great way to try several dishes in downsized portions—wine pairings went beautifully with he food and pours were generous. Service was outstanding and attentive—our service was terrific and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Loved it—will definitely return here and recommend to friends.

This romantic restaurant with upscale hunt club decor was the perfect place for a special occasion meal on our trip to Ashville, NC. The food service and alcohol were outstanding. I highly recommend the grilled octopus, stripped bass and rib eye steak, along with chocolate flourless cake for dessert.

Fantastic restaurant near the Biltmore Estate, however, fine dining with an identity crisis. The struggle is real for the fine dining establishments of America. While I prefer to stick to the mantra of wearing a jacket at minimum it would seem America disagrees. Nevertheless, loud flip flopped tourists mingled with those pursuing a more romantic dining engagement in one of the best establishments in the city. The food was amazing - including the Spanish Octopus and chef’s 4-course tasting menu. Certainly add this to your list of must-do’s in Asheville.

We visited for our anniversary dinner and were immediately impressed by the style of the restaurant. It reminded us of the study from the Biltmore. High back chairs, buttoned leather, dark oak, and trophy mounts. Service was excellent. Appetizers and entres were unique and expertly prepared. Our waiter was very attentive and did a great job of making the evening romantic. We would absolutely visit again; worth every penny.

My husband and I are on vacation in Asheville, NC, and went to the Red Stag Grill for dinner. Loved the decor and the restaurant was quiet enough for comfortable conversation. The food was delicious and varied enough that it wasn’t just another routine dinner. The waitress was very nice and had knowledge of the food on the menu. The free valet parking was a nice perk! Highly recommend.

Really disappointed in our recent dining experience at the Red Stag Grill. My husband and I typically love this place, but it seems since they switched chefs, the quality of the food has gone downhill.

Our first experience here was out or this world. Truly one of the best meals we’ve had. The past two times; not so much. The first night, my husband had lamb which he didn’t like at all. The meat wasn’t cooked properly and lacked flavor. He said the vegetables/potatoes were a 10/10 though. My stripped bass was good. The calamari was fair and the kholrabi soup was great.

Last night we opted for the $95 per person tasting menu to try some different menu items. What a total let down and a rip off for the price. The starter, a salad, was dry and literally had no dressing whatsoever. They claimed they drizzle coconut oil on it, which has little flavor to begin with. Second course was trout, which was just awful. Very fishy. Third course, elk, which was tough and couldn’t even cut it with the steak knife they provided. Rubbery consistency. Just bad. It honestly seems as if it was pre-cooked and served. The middle was cold. Then we were informed they ran out of dessert, which probably happened for the best because we were given something else, a chocolate dish which was actually very good. The “premium” wines we opted for were sub par at best.

David, our waiter, was very nice and tried to help rectify the situation. Although not his fault at all.

We really wanted to stay at this hotel next time we were in town, mostly because of how much we loved this restaurant, but now that is gone.
