Ambiance, service and quality of food - all very good
The food was stellar. Our only complaints were it is too dark and noisy. Especially for older people with poor eyes and hearing aids.
Waiter was rude and condescending. Requested Arnold Palmer to drink and told us then out of lemonade. He also told us could substitute shrimp for trout on the tasting menu and then gave us only shrimp mixed with other stuff normally with trout even though told him wanted just plain shrimp. He never brought us bread either and said we couldn’t split and entree either. The manager assisted us after that with better service but food delivery was still very slow as well. The bison was undercooked and chewy of poor quality cut. Finally manager asked us if wanted another dessert but then forgot to get for us as did the other waitress who asked us as well and waited 20 min longer for that. Very disappointed supposed to be a special anniversary dinner. Go to Ruth Chris a block away instead!
As good as expected. Timely, great service, food prepared deliciously...our newest favorite!
Cozy, snug and funky in a good way. Wonderful food, with adequate choices. Perfect steak and trout, and the spicy crab and pumpkin soup was out of this world. Even the bread was exceptional. Really nice staff, attentive but not obtrusive.
Cool lighting and chandeliers. Pretty quiet, too.
It was very good. The food was wonderful and the decor fit the name. Hunting lodge feel with comfortable seating.
The Red Stag Grill will now be our go-to favorite restaurant every time we visit Asheville. The food, atmosphere, staff, and experience were all superb.
Gracious, attentive and delicious! Very quiet and relaxed
Family brunch while at Biltmore for a family vacation. The Grand Bohemian hotel is a really cool place and Red Stag is no different. My wife loved the Bloody Marys and I got a Beermosa which was delicious. You gotta get the Beignet doughnuts! The brunch food was great. We all had a great time.
The food and ambiance were very good but the service was significantly lacking and took away from the experience. I’ve been to high end restaurants all over the world and this was some of the worst service I’ve experienced at a restaurant of this level. The wait staff had a sense of arrogance and laziness about them. I must say the bar staff were personable and provided an excellent experience. The expectation should be met across the board.
Having a birthday dinner for my love, was a great time and dinner. Thank you all
Wonderful evening, loved the Brussels sprouts appetizer!
The ambience was perfect and had a Biltmore-ish feel to it. The brussel sprouts appetizer was excellent, and my steak was perfect. Highly recommend!
Loved it. Definitely coming back.
Atmosphere, service and food are the best in Asheville and I challenge anyone to find better in NC
Outstanding meal, delightful service, great ambiance. Definitely our favorite place in Asheville. Highly recommend!
Great food – –
We have eaten here several times in the past & it was always delicious & very special but not this time. Our waitress was wonderful but our food was cold and undercooked. They were also out of trout and the fresh catch so choices were more limited. Not sure we will go back
We went for our 30th anniversary and the atmosphere was perfect. The menu was unique and everything we tried was excellent! Service by our waiter, David A, was impeccable. We'll definitely be back when we visit Asheville again.
Just a wonderful spot. Awesome food and cocktails. Ned behind the bar could not have been better between service and conversation !!!
We were wondering why all the servers (and especially ours) were robotic without pleasant expressions. Maybe they all just received bad news.
Good service and food. A little loud for the price point.
Beautiful restaurant decor
In a word, superb. Salads were fresh (slightly underdressed) fresh fish flaky and delicious, and the Elk chop perfectly prepared. Must try the fried Brussels Sprouts and wedge fries. Local cheese platter was generous and delicious but Lise the overly crumbly bread. Why dint US restaurants serve proper biscuits with their cheeses? Nice wine lust, too. Bar scene was vibrant and staffed with pros. Note: our waiter, David, was professional and attentive. A real pro. Only miss was predictable desserts which lacked appeal and originality of the menu. Highly recommend Red Stag.
Far exceeded expectations!! Husband had the scallops over black rice which was divine and I had the tile fish and they subbed out the potatoes for the butternut squash purée. Our waitress was very attentive and brought out a dessert of carrot cake. Hands down best meal we had there!!
I was under impressed almost from the start. When we walked into the bar of the Red Stag there were children running around like it was a Chuck E Cheese, so the romantic anniversary dinner started pretty rough. Once we got a seat at the bar it was very cramped. We made a reservation for 7 and got to the hotel around 6:15 to have a drink at bar which the website says is a must however, it felt more like spring break at Daytona Beach than a grand hotel experience . We are Marriott Gold members and usually frequent restaurants at Marriott Hotels. We live in Florida and are close to the Gaylord Palms which has an amazing steakhouse call the "The Old Hickory" and comparatively this experience at the Red Stag Grill was lackluster at best. The food was good but I requested a table that had some ambience and they put us at a two top right next to the service table which has tons of banging plates put on it all night. The waiter was fine however it he was just that, a waiter. We ordered ,he brought the food and that was it. I requested to have champagne brought to the table and it never happened and I was so unimpressed I didn't press the issue. We stayed in Hendersonville, NC and drove into the Asheville expressly for this restaurant. We considered staying at the Grand Bohemian, but after this experience at the Red Stag it doesn't seem to make sense to spend that kind of Money for a room and have mediocre service at an expensive restaurant.
It was a beautiful restaurant. The ambiance was great. The piano player in the background was awesome. The food was some of the beat I’ve ever tasted! Doesn’t get any better than that!
i spoke to mike the manager on duty about a server who accused me of being rude!!! the women's bathroom was also a mess, toilet paper all over the floor. we won't be back
It was fantastic, the food was great! The ambiance was incredible, the wine was amazing!
I had looked at recent reviews on google. they were not good. I don't know what these people expected, but this place was great. Valet parking for free. The dining room was beautiful. leather seating, high backed chairs. We were seated by a window with a table for two in large wing backed chairs. The lighting was low and romantic. The waiter bring out two large hard backed menus. To our surprise they light up just as if you were viewing a tablet. Our waiter promptly showed up at our table. My wife is the wine expert in our family, so she ordered a white bordeaux which was wonderful. She ordered the caesar salad and I had the lettuce wedge. Both were delicious. The plate could have been colder. We both ordered the scallops along with the roasted carrots and brussels sprouts. The roasted vegetables were wonderful. The large scallops were on a bed of black rice with green beans. The presentation of the food was beautiful. Our waiter was wonderful. We've eaten in a lot of nice restaurants and we'd put this one in the top of our list. This place is beautiful.
Waiter was slow and inattentive
My business partner and I took a client to Red Stag tonight (10/29/19) with the expectation that it was one of the best restaurants (steak house) in Asheville. Unfortunately, our meals were terrible. I ordered the Bison Ribeye, which was cooked to the correct temperature, but it was VERY tough and chewy... unlike any bison steak I have ever had. My colleague ordered the Elk and said the same. We will not be back.

Steaks charred and buffalo ribye couldn't even cut with knife so tough. My wife's filet was well done (suppose to be medium) and too dry to eat. 160 bucks for nothing!

Birthday and weekend trio
Excellent food, service and just a wonderful dining experience. Red Stag Grill made my Dad's 93rd birthday an experience he will always cherish. Paul Wilson, our waiter, was fantastic and his service is always at the highest level.
Great ambience. Great food. Great service! Would highly recommend to anyone seeking a nice, quiet and romantic dining experience.
The only reason I gave three stars is because the ambiance is pretty cool and our server was nice. Unfortunately, the food was borderline gross. We had a meat/cheese plate that was fine but hard to mess up. Our entrees (trout and fresh catch) were one note, lacked flavor and just not enjoyable at all. I also had a pumpkin martini that was gross.
Disappointed in this visit to the Red Stag!
The manager came by the table to ask if everything was ok and as we began to speak he walked off. We ended up not eating over 1/2 of the appetizer ordered as it was nothing like what was expected, even after asking the waiter his thoughts.
The entrees were small in portion (one was very small) and $30+ per entree. The salads were the best part of the dinner.
We came for our anniversary and were seated next to a table of young business men who were obviously there to party. It was loud, such that it was difficult to carry on a normal conversation. The place is unique and great to see. My ribeye was very expensive (45.00) and 1/3 was fat. The waiter was wonderful.
