First time diner from Detroit Michigan. First of all if you are going here request Brian as a waiter, he made this night especially special. We started the evening with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (which was very affordable at 49$) that was very good. They bring out bread with unsalted butter and a tiny bowl of Hawaiian Red Sea salt that you add to the butter. That was delicious. We had the scallops as an appetizer. You only get two, but they were unreal! I had the seared ahi tuna (seriously so good) and my wife had the macadamia butter mahi that was just as good. The red salt cake for desert really made the evening. Thanks Brian for such a great night!
Food and wine options excellent. Scallop and octopus appetizers were well done, and the $50 burger is worth the price. Not so great was the seared Ahi entree, which was over cooked and over sauced. Dessert was divine. An elegant ambience added to the experience.
Just wonderful! Robert our waiter was very good and personable. We shared my husband and I the lobster truffles gnocchis...unbelievable taste...so special...so good.
It was such a nice dinner and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend!
One of my favorite restaurants in Kauai. We've been going there since we moved to Kauai and we are never disappointed in the service or the food. Recently, the menu has changed and there is no pasta to be found on the menu. Disappointing as they had one my favorite seafood pasta dishes on the island. The meal I did have was excellent, however, I would have been happy if there was more risotto with my Ahi Tuna. It felt like a couple of spoonfuls literally. Rice is cheap, and it was so good, I'd like a little more. In any case, Red Salt remains a favorite restaurant on Kauai, and very few places can equal the service provided by the staff, they are simply outstanding and always make everyone feel welcome and appreciated, all while taking good care of you.
Food was just ok. Didn’t think it was worth the high prices. Was also pretty loud during dinner.
This experience was not like previous visits...the short rib entree was dry, over cooked and had no flavor. My wife left half of her meal....very poor quality for the price paid. The lamb chops were great as was a steak ordered for our guest. Don’t know if this restaurant is worth the price being charged.
It was a fabulous night! The food was excellent. The only thing we weren’t crazy about was how loud it was in the restaurant.
But, the food was so outstanding we would come back anyway!
Food was delicious. Celiac diner here, and it was no issue at all. Even provided tasty, warmed GF bread (thankfully so I was able to enjoy the butter and red salt!) which was obviously not off the grocery store shelf; very good. Meal was very good, dessert was a welcome surprise (GF cake). And the martini was LARGE and very well made. Must mention, the waitress was extremely pleasant and fun. That was 1/3-1/2 of the reason our experience was so good. Thank you.
Second visit...it was as good as we remembered from last year on island. Requested Robert as waiter...he is fabulous. The burrata cheese in the tomato salad was best ever tasted. The charred octopus, curry seafood bisque and short rib all great. Will return next year when come back to Kauai.
Spectacular service and high quality food. A little on the formal end for Hawaii, but we all enjoyed our food. My dish (the ahi and risotto) was the table favorite. 2 people ordered the Red Salt burger, and both loved it. We thought the gnocchi in butter with lobster and mushrooms was a little rich, but it was still tasty. The snapper and mahi mahi were both good, but if you like tuna, we would all steer you to the ahi with risotto instead. Good cheesecake to finish, and bottles of wine were reasonably priced. Especially recommend if you're staying at the hotel, but would even make a trip if you're at the Marriott or Sheraton too. It's not a far drive, and the hotel is quieter than some of the larger properties nearby, including the shopping centers where most restaurants can be found.
We had the scallops and bone marrow to start... both were excellent. We were very impressed with the bone marrow as we are from Colorado, the land of beef. We shared the wasabi crusted ahi for an entree... absolutely fabulous. Our server Chris was perfectly on point all night. Deserts are not to be missed, and the setting at ko’a kea is very relaxed and classy.
Great food, good ocean views, and overall excellence but very expensive. We had a big bill which I expected but to get charged another $5 for a second cup of coffee after dinner seemed like I was being gouged. The wait staff should have informed that refills were not free. Beyond, that minor hiccup, the restaurant was great.
Our first time there, it was a great experience, everyone was extremely polite, including the manager who sat us, and the food was great. They were very busy, given that we did not feel we waited too long for our food. Would recommend highly. The lamb chops are to die for. The ravioli was outstanding.
The food was to die for... especially Foie Gras Brulee...hmm hmm good.
Excellent food, excellent view (ask for a table near the windows!), excellent cocktails. Creative dishes using local ingredients prepared to prefection!
Everything about this Resturant was great, but the noise level terrible. Very difficult to impossible to have conversation with your dining partner.
Absolutely fantastic! We have been coming to Kauai for 20 years and this is one of the best restaurants. Definitely in the top 10 on the island for fine dining.
Spent the week on Kauai and actually went twice to Red Salt. The food, wine and cocktails were outstanding, the service was great both times. And, I'll say it again, the cocktails were creative and fantastic.
Fabulous well prepared food. Mahi excellent and sliders delicious. Valrhona crème brûlée amazing and incredible !!! Very noisy but great service. Wonderful meal!
Awesome server and food was delicious!!!
Server was delightful. Kitchen slow. thought we would have a view of the ocean-- no way-- just view of the pool lounge.
We ate dinner at Red Salt twice during our honeymoon at Ko’a Kea and ordered room service for dinner on 2 other occasions. Every dish was imaginative and so well executed, and the staff was always excellent! Every element surpassed our expectations.
From the onset my wife and I were treated with a lot of attention. Zachary ,our server, was always cordial and had great recommendations for drinks and food. We loved the food and fresh ingredients used and how everything tasted delicious! Mahalo for making Mother's Day for my wife very special!
Red Salt had gotten very good reviews on both Trip Advisor and Yelp. The location was ok, I knew it was inside a hotel but I expected it to be more elegant. It was extremely warm and I opened a window and was told I had to close it because it turns off the AC. If I had felt the AC I would not have had to open the window in the first place. The restaurant's view is looking at the hotel pool which again didn't find very elegant. There was a fly on the window next to our table that just wouldn't leave which made eating a little annoying.
Service was great, the drinks were super. Being somewhat of a foodie and part time chef, I thought the food was average for the price. It was our anniversary which they did recognize which was nice and we got a free scoop of gelato.
Nothing really bad to say about the meal, it was just ordinary. But there are so many other options within 5 minutes that I wouldn't put this on the top of the list.
We were very happy with our two dinners here at Red Salt. The food was very tasty and just the right portion. I don't live in Kauai but I'll be back when I vacation there again.
By far the best restaurant we've tried in Kauai. Amazing service and plating of food. Everything from appetizers to dessert were outstanding. We've gone back several times and tried lots of things from the menu. Highly recommend the ahi tartare, scallops, mahi mahi, cheesecake, and chocolate creme brûlée.
I went back and forth as to whether we should go as the reviews said that it was pretty pricey and not worth it. Well you are on Kauai so everything is like that. I don’t mind paying for good quality and this was delicious. We had the octopus which was great and not chewy, the bone marrow was huge for 2 people and great as well. I had the short ribs and my husband had the Mahi Mahi and everything was excellent. I would definitely go again if I had the money. It was my birthday and sometimes they comp dessert but I was too full to eat anything else so that was okay.
We were there for my birthday and it was unfortunate there were a couple of issues with the food, but management and the chef made it right. We are planning to return again as the food was excellent save those items mentioned. The Chef is very creative and tastes were excellent.
We really enjoy the service and creativity of the sushi chef, Justin! He is amazing👍🏻
Some of the dishes are just insanely good. The appetizers were awesome and the service great.
We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary at Red Salt and it was fantastic. The staff was attentive and friendly and the food was great. We had a wonderful time.
We had high hopes for this restaurant as it had been recommended to us. However the food was bland and overcooked. My husband's fish was so dry he could barely palate it. Much of the poor cooking could have been overshadowed by a beautiful view, as per many of the fine restaurants on the island. However this restaurant does not have a nice view of anything outside (other than the hotel's not-so-nice pool). The restaurant is housed in a drab hotel that is supposed to be a relatively nice, boutique hotel; however, to us seemed like more of a motel feel.
The valet people were not very responsive when we drove up . There were two cars blocking the entrance and the two valet people were talking to a couple and did not acknowledge us When the finally looked toward us, one moved one of the cars so we could pull in and they didn't open our doors for us.. It was a bit awkward.. The host didn't walk us to our table but pointed in the direction, which was a bit odd. The food was good tho and we loved the cocktails! Service was excellent. It was very comfortable and we had a wonderful time.
Fabulous meal, as always at this wonderful restaurant. We SO look forward to eating here every time we come to Kauai.
The cocktails are huge and delicious (you should probably walk or Uber to the restaurant!). The Foie Gras was one of the best combination of flavors I have ever had.
The lobster gnocchi was rich and flavorful with just the right amount of lobster.
Brian, our waiter did a first class job and was very attentive.
Treat yourself at least once on your vacation, you will love it.
Best dinner on the island! Creative food with great flavors! Drinks are expensive, but strong, considering it’s Kauai, it’s a bargain! If you love good seafood with great flavors, or beef as an option, this is your place!
The food was outstanding! A meal I would definitely tell others about. Highly recommend going there even if you aren’t at that hotel.
The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Ordered the ahí steak rare and was not disappointed.
