Nice place but food was a bit off. Had the lobster gnocchi which was super salty (and I like salt). The place is very noisy and has no sound absorbing material. The dining room is in a partial circle and has an amphitheater like effect that allows you to hear what everyone is saying at each table. Service was excellent and the chocolate creme brûlée's was wonderful!

Adequate portion size. Casual dining room, decor trending towards sterile. Seemed a bit understaffed when I visited. The food while visually pleasing didn't impress as much as expected from reading other reviews. Given the price range, tablecloths might be an option management may want to consider.

Great atmosphere within the Koa Kea Resort. The host initially seated us by the exit door with the overhead light out- why would you seat anybody there? But he accommodated our desire for a better table. Our server was amazing- so attentive, kind and knowledgeable. We can highly recommend the charred octopus appetizer. The burrata and tomato salad had enough cheese for 4 diners but was overall great. The lobster and gnocchi was another delicious dish; the ahi not so much - texture of the ahi was odd, almost wobbly. It was a special evening out, and worth the price.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Our waiter was able to tell us a bit about the dishes we chose (the Ahi and Mahi-Mahi dinner plates), and he provided fantastic recommendations for wine pairings. We also had the scallop appetizer and coconut shrimp soup, both wonderful! The ambience was the relaxing and intimate evening we were hoping for, and we would love to visit again.

We really liked the host. He was incredibly friendly. The server I believe talked the table out of ordering the tomahawk steak and I think he talked every other table out of it as well which is bad for the restaurant and his tip as it was by far the most expensive thing on menu and we didn’t see anyone in the restaurant order it. The regular steak was very good. The vanilla Mahi Mahi was bland and did not taste like vanilla at all. The chicken was very good. Overall, we were disappointed though with the restaurant which is basically just a hotel lobby and the overall value for our money.

I want to shed light on the service. Our waiter was so professional, knowledgeable and added to the overall experience! Bravo to him.
Thank you for making the evening such a memorable experience for us.

We were on Kauai over Thanksgiving. We had the choice of the special Chef's Tasting menu or their traditional Tasting menu so we ordered one of each. They were both uniquely amazing. Our waiter was great and made sure we enjoyed our experience. We were away from home for the haoliday but the staff made us feel like family.

Innovative menu but not pretentious. Everything we had was wonderful. Multiple fresh fish options. Desserts excellent, best crime brûlée and the Red Salt cake was perfection. Service was exceptional. From being welcomed and seated and then throughout the meal the service was unobtrusive but water glass never less than 1/2 full, next course appeared just as we were ready for it, our conversations never interrupted but magically wait staff appeared when we had a question or ready to order. Really the service is best we have had on Kaua’i... Ambience is very nice, modern with touches of Hawaii,, no real view and a bit loud since every table was taken and bar area very close but nothing that detracted from an overall wonderful experience.

My wife and I spend over 4 months a year on Kauai. We are in Poipu, near Red Salt in the Koa Kea Hotel.
We often go there for special occasions, or to take friends to a really great restaurant.

The hotel and restaurant are beautiful, the service is tops, and the food delicious.

The hotel was named the most romantic on the island.

If on Kauai, don’t miss the opportunity to have at least one dinner there.

The food was delicious. It was a bit pricy but worth it for a special treat. The waitress was sweet but the restaurant looked way understaffed. She was running around taking orders, shaking martini drinks, and serving. We waited way too long for coffee after our meal that we cancelled the order with another waiter and waited for the bill.

I very rarely write a poor review but it needs to be done.

I will say from the start that the manager comped both our entries or this review would be much worse.

We got to Red Salt a bit early and were seated 10 or so minutes late. From the start we could tell the place was busy and understaffed with our waitress getting to our table after a bit of a wait. We ordered some wine and waited to get our order in as she was serving other tables close by. We started with the scallops which were done well but very small with only two served which was 4 small bites. I had the caesar salad which was so overdressed I would have liked to send it back if we could have gotten the waiter's attention. My wife had the Butternut Squash Soup which was just slightly better than lukewarm.

I ordered the 16 oz. Prime Ribeye Steak with bacon and brussel sprouts medium rare, the steak had a large section of gristle and was closer to medium. The brussel sprouts were difficult to find with the large quantity of overdone bacon covering it all up. My wife had the Furikake & Wasabi-Crusted Seared Ahi which she ordered rare yet it was served nearly well done a tragedy to the Ahi.

We tried often to get the servers attention to talk about our meals but she seemed to ignore us, the manager came at the end of our meal while she was bussing tables to ask how it all was. She gasped when shown our food and said she would have a talk with the server. We never saw our server again and the manager came back with the receipt and comped the entries.

It was a very sad dinner for our last night on the Kauai.

Great date spot. The restaurant is beautiful. The food delicious, I did the tasting menu. Every course was good. It just seemed super slow. There were long pauses with no service and in the end I was exhausted 😴 and had to ask another server to find our waitress. Overall it was really good and I’d like to try it again.

Food was very good service excellent but be prepared to pay for it. A gin and tonic was $20.00 &17.00 Martinis.By far the highest priced food and drink on the island . I guess I was expecting more of a wow factor for the food, which I didn’t get. Best value is the tasting menu.

Celebrating 20th Anniversary, Red Salt came highly recommended. Restaurant is located in the lobby, but had a nice atmosphere. The service was excellent, drink and wine list on the high end side ($20 cocktails) . Wife ordered the local Mahi, presentation was amazing, and she really enjoyed the flavors. My dish, short ribs, seemed to lack seasoning, which was disappointing. I added some of the Red Salt provided for the table bread, which accented the flavor of the meat. Nice little cheesecake for our anniversary dinner. Overall an excellent experience, especially with the $100 in coupons provided from our hotel concierge at the Point at Poipu (excellent place to stay).

It was our last night in town and we wanted a nice place to say thanks to our host. The food was very well made and presented, with the NY Strip being the choice for the guys, perfect medium rare, seasoned nicely, while I had the mahi over black rice which was delicious. The chocolate cream brûlée was worth the dessert splurge. Our server was pleasant, skilled and knowledgeable. We would recommend Red Salt to anyone looking for a well cooked locally sourced meal while on Kauai.

Lovely spot. Excellent bone marrow with a gremolata sauce. and other creative menu items. A definite recommendation. One caveat. Our server was movie star lovely w a radiant smile until she SOMEWHAT threw it back on me. I ordered a tomato salad. She delivered a salad w a lot of lettuce on top that I didn’t even taste until after she had come and gone from returning to check how things were. (Too busy enjoying my bone marrow and gremolata.) Once I realized I had a wedge beet salad a while later, I called it to her her attention. Right off the bat I was told, “If you’d let me know when I stopped by earlier, I would have replaced it.” So back on me for not identifying it in a timely fashion. Hah! Other than that, all excellent.

We used to consider the Red Salt one of our must go to restaurants in Kauai, but this time was a huge disappointment. We assume the chef changed from years past when the food was creative, tasty and very beautifully presented. Now, it is very ordinary. One of our apps, the ahi tartare was swimming in salty sauce with pureed avocado on the bottom of the plate. So salty, it was nearly inedible. To be fair, one of our party had the scallops and loved it, another had the bisque and loved it.
Although our main courses were different, the presentation made 3 of the 4 look alike.
Service VERY slow and a very loud party made it hard to relax.
Overall, that will be our last trip to a past fav!
