Red Salt at Ko’a Kea Resort
The service and chef are what make this a great place since they are responsible for the food and service and both do a great job
So far, Red Salt was our favorite restaurant. The ambiance was very good but does not compare to the Beach House or Tidepools. The service (Chris) was superb. We started with the Kekaha Gold tropical favorites—an unusual and great drink. We shared the gnocchi as an appetizer—perhaps the best gnocchi ever! The entrees were short ribs, ahi and the decadent hamburger. All were excellent, although I would not order the hamburger again (too much) Passion fruit cheesecake was for dessert—very good. All in all a great evening.
Celebrating family her for marathon
Good staff but too few - he forgot our special occasion - didn’t offer dessert - recommend going earlier
There are better restaurants on the South Shore
Valet was fabulous
My favorite restaurant on Kauai! High quality fine dining with impeccable service and lovely ambiance.
I didn't find the dining room especially charming for a dinner. Our entree's were good, but the appetizers and salad were mediocre. For the amount they charge, all courses should have stellar ingredients and have the highest flavoring. This was not the case. The service was fine.
I did hear that the same dining area has a wonderful sushi chef. I would suggest trying that if you're heading to Red Salt.
Great experience. Food was fantastic. Pretty pricey for what you get.
Very good food, especially the scallops. The cheesecake was also excellent. Overall the gnocchi wasn't great and the salad was ordinary. The views aren't terrific (sort of a typical hotel restaurant) and the prices seemed high even by Hawaii standards. On the other hand, the service was excellent.
Bryan, our server was great. The Butterfish was excellent and the drinks were solid. We had a very nice evening at Red Salt!
Every bite of food was outstanding, the service was not only prompt and appropriate, but incredibly friendly as well. Highly recommended!
Food was delicious. Service was excellent!
Our 5th anniversary. We wanted to
Everything was phenomenal! Drinks were made to perfection. The food was exceptional, we got the lobster gnocchi and the lamb chops. They even treated us to a dessert since it was our honeymoon!
Wonderful atmosphere and quaint setting but a bit noisy for the number of tables. Food was very good and different. Unique presentations. But my Filet Mignon was a bit cold when served. Did not complain to the server as it was late and was tired, but I'm sure they would have returned and re-served to order if I asked. Bone marrow appie was superb. The prices are not for the faint at heart but worth the experience overall.
We ordered two starters, two entree’s and shared the dessert. My only issue with this meal was the beet salad was awful!! The beets hadn’t no flavor, neither did the oranges and the dressing lacked flavor as well. It was so disappointing. My husband had the octopus starter and it was yummy (not amazing but good) as were our entrees (lobster gnocchi and mahi) . We came after sunset and I thought outside seating was available but it’s not. So I would recommend getting there before it’s dark outside or else it feels like you could be in any restaurant anywhere else in the world. This was the most expensive meal we had during our week stay and for the money I didn’t think it was worth it.
Menu and food were terrific. Mixed drinks were overpriced a bit. All eight of us were very pleased.
Red Salt is presented and priced as high end restaurant, but we found the room to be not very pretty nor "refined." The food is good, not spectacular, and the service was rather slow and uninspired. Merrimans and The boat house are far better nearby for less money and better ambience.
If you are staying here, I suppose you might want to eat here, but otherwise it's not worth the effort.
Love this place! Been going since they opened!
The food was great. The decor is beautiful. Will definitely be back again.
The food was amazing from start to finish. We sat by the window with a view of the pool area and tiki torchws which was lovely. The only thing that we did not appreciate was that we felt rushed. Our reservation was at 7:30 and at 9:00 while we were still having our entrees the waiter came over and said they wanted to close the register for the evening so we needed to pay. According to our waiter, management was directing this. They should not seat people at 7:30 if they want to shut things down at 9:00. If management wants to be considered a 5 star restaurant they need to treat the guests accordingly.
Celebrated an anniversary with our family. Dinner was perfect.
Food is good service was okay , over priced
Not too many choice from menu
We go to red salt every time we are on Kauai (probably our 6th time) & our adult daughter requested Red Salt for her birthday. The cocktails are always Amazing. The service was exceptional again - our waiter knew the menu well and knew the details about the food - there were 5 of us with different pallets and he answered every question we had, and he made some wonderful suggestions that changed our selection for the better.
The tomato & burrata salad and the kale salad were very good - local greens & tomato and the burrata was the best I’ve had in memory. Squid Ink pasta with shrimp was fantastic - they took a plate that you can get anywhere shrimp and pasta and raised it no one but at least 2 levels - pasta was perfectly cooked. Fillet was perfect as was my short ribs - lobster gnocchi was very good. On the appetizer front, Avocado Croquets were interesting and the scallop appetizer was great!
Overall a gold medal meal!
Lilikoi cheesecake desert was phenomenal with toasted Mac nut crumble.
If I had to pick one thing, the only item I thought I’ve had better (even at red salt at a past visit) was the yellow fin sashimi that was presented as the chef’s offering during our appetizers - tuna with soy sauce to dip -
Food was bland and overpriced, save your money and go to eating house or crack tacos, much better.
Brian, our server, was wonderful! Amazing service and delicious meals! Thank you!!
Son had a allergic reaction to their butterfish :(
We came here on recommendation for the concierge at our hotel on the other side of the island. Wonderful chef, we got the tasting menu and it was superb! Our waiter was really attentive and knowledgeable too. Thank you for making our 40th Anniversary dinner special.
Everything from the service to the food was absolutely amazing. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. From the breakfast to the Ribeye, everything was delicious. Highly recommended
Nice setting. Good service. Had fish which was fresh and tasted great. Portions fairly small and sides (risotto) minuscule
The food was pretentious, very expensive and not well prepared. The view was of the pool.
Will never go back and do not recommend.
I made the decision to come to Red Salt for my birthday. The atmosphere was nice but a boisterous group didn't quite allow for a relaxing atmosphere. The waiter provided good service and I enjoyed the Red Salt Burger.
We have eaten at this restaurant over the years, and it has never disappointed. While it is more a special occasion than casual dining establishment, the food is excellent. We had the tasting menu which had four interesting courses with manageably sized courses. Ordered an unfamiliar wine, and it was excellent, too.
We had a lovely dinner at Red Salt, the food was delicious and staff were very friendly and it seemed like staff members were always helping each other out with a team like attitude, which I found refreshing. If one team member had hands full they other ran over and helped out even though it wasn't their table. They ran very efficiently as a result. Food was amazing and the view is very nice. Great place for a date. A little tricky finding but if you keep going down drive way past the Marriott you will run right into it
The service is the best part of the restaurant. While the food is good, it is nothing to write home about and certainly does not match the amount charged.
Not the amazing experience we were expecting. The food was a bit blah and service a bit dismissive. We won’t be back.
Our first time here and it was excellent! It’s at our top of the list for nice restaurants in Kauai!
Another wonderful evening at Red Salt where the service and food are superb and we always leave happy. This last visit brought a rambunctious guest one table over and we could not talk at our table due to the loud noise at times. A little disappointing as we were there to catch up with old friends.
Food was excellent, service was poor, especially for a high class fine dinning restaurant. Very loud when we first arrived at 8PM.
Outstanding service by Bryan! Food and Napa Cab were outstanding!
Had a memorable meal in December. Is there a new chef? The flavor, portions and service was awful. We were a group of 5 there on my recommendation from my December experience.
