Friday night, 8:30pm. Mediocre food, long waits, truly awful service, and so crowded and loud with party goers that it was an awkward effort to even have a conversation.
Much more a place to “see and be seen” than to enjoy a meal of great quality food and ambiance. I mean...they were careful about food allergies which was great....so at least we didn’t die. There’s that, I guess.
Food was amazing. We had the chicken and waffle, jerk chicken and the fish fry. The service was ok - overall very polite waitress, however, when I complained that I couldn't taste any alcohol (tequila) in my $16 cocktail, I was not given the choice of changing/ taking it back for replacement or the minimum of maybe adding a splash of tequila. Instead the server asked me if I would like a shot of tequila to add it myself to the drink, which shot I was eventually charged for. Even though I would love to come back for the food, the drink experience was the low point that might make me lean towards another restaurant if I had to make a choice.
Great food. Nice atmosphare!
After trying to get here for years, we finally scheduled a weekend in Harlem and ate our first meal at Red Rooster...totally worth the wait! Although Marcus was unfortunately nowhere to be found, his staff and chefs outdid themselves. Our brunch and the various things we sampled were just delicious, and just different enough with a “soul” flair. We will be back soon!
I had the biscuits and gravy for Saturday brunch. It was a special version in that instead of a biscuit it was their take on a bread pudding. If this is an option, you must order it. Simply divine
The food was good but overall felt it was a bit pricey.
Highly recommend this spot! Can't wait to go back again sometime soon! The cornbread is outstanding and I don't even like cornbread! We also ordered the yard bird which was cooked to perfection and lay on top a bed of creamy mash potatoes. My friend who's a vegetarian ordered the mac and greens and some other side vegetables which were both lip-smackingly good!
You can't go wrong with red rooster. The place is one of a kind and a must if you come to NYC or Live here
This is a must eat to dine in Harlem. Food is delish and the wait staff is on point. The ambience and flavor of the entire restaurant is so surreal. Awesome experience.
Our food was delicious! And the atmosphere is utopian. I treated my boyfriend to dinner for his birthday and he absolutely loved it. He had jerk chicken, I had the yard bird. The yard bird is so much (delicious) food I had my leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. That certainly made it worth the $ :). This place is fabulous.
Service was not great ....menu listed appetizer as soft shell crab ...what showed up was oyster?! No explanation when asked other than to blame the kitchen I would have ordered something different if advised that th crab was out of season
Loved the food and ambience as usual, we were a little disappointed that our server urged us to order more and Sid we would have nowhere near enough dishes for 4 people, and then we ended up with way too much food that we couldn't finish. Apart from the waste of food/money that resulted in everything was great.
We ordered crab cakes and corn bread as an apetizer, they were both awesome. We were with 5 people and ordered the fried bird royale with side dishes, the taco truck and the spare ribs. For wine we had the Pinot Noir from Oregon, which was an excellent accompagnement to the food. We could have done witout the spare ribs because it was too much food, but everthing was equally great. So we got to take home some left overs. Place has a great vibe, very warm and welcoming and the waitress (from Oregon:-) was awesome. We’ll go back in a blink of an eye!
Nolsy, aversge food, aversge service
Thouroughly enjoyabe. Staff helpful, informative and polite.
Serves are large and only needed a main and salad 🥗
Recommend making a booking!
Red Rooster is one of my favorite restaurants. For me it's got the best hip, uptown vibe. Food is solid and inventive. Bar is fun and lively. There's always either live music or a smokin DJ.
Food was overpriced. There was small selection of specialty drinks which were either too sweet or too spicy and I love a spicy margarita but their Obama-drink was undrinkable. The meatballs seemed under cooked - the texture was too soft. The short ribs with the "lobster biscuit"were much too sweet, and the biscuit tasted stale. The shrimp & grits were poorly presented and not worth the value, the shrimp were small and there were only @6 pcs for a entree of @$30 way over priced. The best item we had was the Tostada (snack item) was supposed to be soft-shell crab, but instead shrimp but again $9 for 2 shrimp & some avocado seemed over priced.
Service is top notch and the food is wonderful. Had hot and honey yardbird and it was great!! Mac&cheese and cornbread were also goods.
Great music at the bar, but the quality of food is very poor!
Came here on multiple recommendations from multiple Harlem locals. It was just as good as everyone says!!
I'd heard a lot about Red Rooster from friends and colleagues. It's a gem of a restaurant - really tasty food, fun venue, excellent service, fun live music further helps create a vibrant atmosphere
I traveled to NY from NC for a few days and dragged my friend up to Harlem to go to Red Rooster, and it was definitely worth the trip. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. The deviled eggs were so good we nearly licked the plate clean. We both got the lunch prix fixed menu. The salad was just an okay salad, but we both gushed over the corn soup. Being from NC, I've eaten a lot of shrimp and grits, and these were among the best I've had. The yardbird was so crispy. The chocolate blueberry cupcakes were the perfect ending.
If I was with my contemporaries, it would gave been more enjoyable. I was hosting my grandmother (90’s), mother (70’s) and aunt. They loved the food but ‘...too loud’. This was an early dinner on Sunday. I loved the food and vibe but I should have been more conscientious when it came to my elders comfort.
I will return on my next visit
The Perfect Meal!! The Shrimp and Grits were the best I have ever had! The YardBird was amazing!
I was excited about going to Red rooster but was disappointed with the experience. The food was average at best. The yardbird was undercooked. The plum salad was ok and the cinnamon dessert was dry and lacking of flavor.
The servers were attentive but that did not make up for the average food. I expected so much more.
Amazing restaurant, definitely the best I’ve been too.
Not impressed it's pretty much a tourist spot. Not special. I did get to see chef Marcus mingling with guest. I don't think he actually cooks there. Staff was very attentive.
My daughter and I were really looking forward to visiting d/t seeing Marcus on Chopped but honestly the food was just "ok".
Yum! I had the Shrimp & Grits and my daughter had the Hot Honey Yardbird with braised succotash. Would totally order those entrees again. Definitely try the cornbread with honey butter and tomato jam; they make an interesting sweet and savory flavor combination. Our hostess and server were both charming. While we were too full to enjoy a desert on this visit, we look forward to returning to try one of the interesting ice creams that are made at the Red Rooster. Will also look forward to returning to enjoy some live Jazz Music on Monday nights.
It was a great experience from start to finish. The staff is systematically in sync and works extremely well together. I go to Red Rooster each time I am in NYC.
Good food and great music
Family vacation. You were recommended by a friend who said absolutely visit “Red Rooster” So glad we did!!
Had friends visiting from LA. they were interested in eating in Harlem.
I had the oye salmon. friends had crabs+burgers. food was good. but not spectacular.
regrettably, nothing I ate made me want to come back and try other items. nevertheless, I'd get together there with friends again. nice ambience.
Good food, good music and excellent atmosphere.
We are swedish and were very interested in trying the famouse restaurant owened by Marcus Samuelsson, and it was great! But the music was to high, we had to shout when we were speaking.
During NYFW friends came together to dine at RED ROOSTER. I was a repeat guest and raved so much about the delicious food so my friends had to validate what I've told them. They absolutely agree and everyone left quite pleased with our dining experience, the great music and vibes while we drank our cocktails and ate our meals. Thanks again for a wonderful time!
We’ve been here twice and what I like the most is the diverse people watching, from trendy hipsters to assorted tourists. The food is good but some dishes hit better than others - loved the simplicity of the deviled eggs, ribeye was perfectly seasoned and cooked (but served with little extras so definitely order a side)! But did not care for the crab cakes or pound cake dessert at all.
Great vibe with amazing food!
Good food but noisy. Very unhappy looking staff and a hostess with major attitude. Probably a fun spot in the evening with a nice bar. Don’t expect a quiet romantic dining.
Amazing food and ambiance. Service was great.
