View Private Dining DetailsWe were amazed with our meal. We had to adjust our reservation from three people to four which is very difficult for such a small place and they did an awesome job accommodating us. It was a much smaller restaurant than we thought it was but they pack you in and do it great job. Very fun atmosphere and amazing food.
We are from out of town and it was definitely worth the trip from midtown to Harlem for our fabulous dinner. The cornbread is a must try!
AH mazing. Food, yes, drink, yes, service, YAAAAS! Cornbread, chicken and waffles, Mac and collards! Just go and live!
Great Food, Great Service, great Vibe! Definitely recommend !
Excellent food, great atmosphere! Headed downstairs after our meal to Ginny’s Supper Club for great live jazz and dancing!
Delicious food and even better service! So happy my husband and I were able to make a reservation when we were in town!
Red Rooster is one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is great, and the food is delicious. Everyone was so friendly to me. I was dining alone, and sometimes restaurants ignore a single diner. However, everyone was so attentive. When I am back in town I will surely go back.
Had a wonderful evening. This was my second visit coming from Australia and I loved it just as much as the first time.
Definitely one of the best places to dine in New York.
The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional. Will be back when I am next in New York.
Really fun restaurant with great food. The only negative comment regards the noise level. There was a DJ in the bar and the music was so loud it was almost impossible to hear my companion or the waiter. Actually had to cover ears to be comfortable
The « Obama » ribs were just amazing !
We made a reservation to the Red Rooster because we had watched a French TV show before going to New York.
The were very happy
We had a great time at Red Rooster. We started with the cornbread and shared the Obama short rib for two.
Plenty of food for both and it was AWESOME! the restaurant is a bit loud but that did not bother us. Drinks took too long to receive as there was a mixup at the bar BUT the manager addressed it and comped the drinks for the inconvenience which was unexpected.
Overall a wonderful experience and would return! You have to try it. We want to go back for other menu items!!
Fantastic place - the food was tasty, copious and unexpected. The service was friendly and helpful, low noise level, great decor, warm welcome. I took clients for lunch and everyone was delighted.
Chef Ed and Chef Tiffany are the best!
Fantastic food and service but to loud music for a "talking dinner"
Glad I finally made it!
After several reschedules and cancellations - I finally made the trek to Harlem on this trip to New York...and I am so happy I finally did!
The food was great. The service - great. The live music and bustle was the added bonus!
The Red Rooster has been added to my list of NY regulars. I travel often to NY and guaranteed this place is a new go-to!
Food is FUN! It's delicious but not so serious as some of the other great restaurants in NY. I love everything about RR. Get the cornbread. Get the ribs. Go for it!
This was a great meal -- the whole fried chicken was moist throughout. And the sides were so good. The ambience was cool and exciting. Great service as well. The staff really made an effort to make you feel special.
Reservation at 10am, we arrived at 9:58am but were seated at 10:10am because the staff meeting was still going on. As soon as we sat down, I told our waitress that we would need to leave by 11am, she said she would keep it in mind. 10 minutes later the waitress finally returns to our table for our orders, and mentions that entrees would take some time. I reminded her once again that we would need to leave by 11am, which she acknowledged and said would be fine - no need to change our order. 10:45am and no sign of our food. Our waitress said that she was going to check, that it would be tight. 11am and she calls help from the manager to check on our food (whatever that means). At 11:05am, we left the restaurant hungry and without any form of compensation - our drinks were charged to us at full price.
I did not try the food so I cannot say anything about that, but this service was the worst I have ever had. If you cannot accommodate your diners’ time constraints, fine, but please tell them upfront and don’t leave them thinking that everything is going to be fine, until it isn’t.
Incredibly loud. Impossible to hear person sitting next to me at table. Food was very good. Cornbread was superb. Leisurely meal.
I had sent a cake order to the restaurant since it was a birthday. I got a confirmation and called again to reconfirm it.
No cake.
They tried to make amends by making something else and not charging us... but very disappointed.
ur fav! Friendly crowd, knowledgeable and attentive staff and memorable food. The bar is a happening at happy hour, love the punch and tried the classics too.
The menu keeps changing so we always find something new and wonderful. We've loved the chicken, salmon, lamb, ribs, and cornbread; last night we tried the Obama Short Ribs that were truly amazing. They were too much for the two of us so we enjoyed a second round this morning, they were delicious cold! We shared the dirty girl chocolate mouse that was wonderful, but very small, we each had only two bites. Last time we shared the coconut cake & it was a true share.
Found the short rib recipe on line and see the plum sauce gives it the candy glaze, can't wait to try it at home. Thank you Marcus Samuelson for not only having an amazing restaurant, but giving back to the community and sharing. We will be back!!!
Great food! The chicken and the salad was awesome! Creative menu and tasty, even the items I wasn't sure I'd like. The servers were very attentive and personable. A bit loud, especially if you sit outside. Can't wait to go again!
The service was excellent and the ambience was good energy. Now, the food, let's just say I've never had such happy taste buds! The cornbread is like no other, as the cornbread is sliced like pound cake with smooth butter and tomato jam on the side. The mac and cheese with collard greens was one of thee best things I ever ate. My guest had the yard bird, which was incredibly crispy and yummy with collard greens that, standing alone has a sweet yet delicious flavor. Last, the restaurant itself screams culture, recognition and appreciation for artist and entertainers. I will definitely keep this one as one of my new favorites.
Lively, friendly staff, handsome decor paying homage to its Harlem roots. Food is delicious and unique with some staples for all palates. Looking forward to next time!
To noisy and loud, unable to have a conversation. :-(
Otherwise good.
While the food is great, the noise level makes talking almost impossible coupled with a constant musical beat played at full volume. 8 of us were seated in a booth for six near the kitchen. They forgot one of our dinners and offered nothing but a shrug so we had to wait and wait finally arrived when all the rest of us had finished. The fried chicken and ribs were best dishes. Couldn’t wait to leave. So noisy it was painful. We had been there several yeats earlier and it wasn’t like this.
it would be better if the waiter more attentive with what we want to orders.
Several friends who have eaten here highly recommended it. We were in New York, so we tried it for lunch. These friends were absolutely correct. Outstanding African American history and culture artistically displayed at this venue. The service was highly professional, warm and friendly. The food was an uniquely take on “soul food”. Incrediblely delicious, too. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The music was unbearably loud (NOT just energetic) for conversation to take place, and ruined the whole atmosphere. It was my understanding that music took place downstairs, but it was right in the bar area near dining on the first floor. Even the servers couldn't hear our orders. It was too bad, because the food was good-but we just wanted to finish and leave.
Red Rooster has no equal when it comes to balancing energy, vibe, great food and great service. Food on point. Service unpretentious yet attentive; atmosphere is just utter, one-of-a-kind. The band on the Monday night we were there shell down de place COMPLETELY. In the best possible way! How they do it, I don’t know, but they get it done. Extraordinary.
My wife and I attended on the recommendation of a friend. The food was amazing. We ordered the chicken and waffle, shrimp and grits and the "Obama Shortrib". The food was incredible as was the overall ambiance. Chef Brumfield was gracious enough to speak to us about the meal. Our experience was nothing short of phenomenal.
Restaurant was fun and lively. It's a smaller space with people crammed together, this exclusivity I suppose. The okra in my shrimp and grits was undercooked, and the jerk chicken was under seasoned.
Great jazz brunch. Loved it
Great brunch Sunday. Amazing food with band in live.
I live in Harlem, am a former restaurant owner, and the Rooster has been a second kitchen for me for years even as the service has deteriorated over the last several, a problem we have always been willing to overlook because of the quality of the food.
Yesterday, my wife and I went with friends who had also been there before. I have never experienced such an embarrassing and second-rate level of service. (The seating staff and bus people are great, however . . . very attentive, and we were seated right away.) We ordered salads and entrees to be split. Our dining partners ordered the Ol' Dirty Porcini Pasta, the folks at the table next to us having told us how good it was. After the salads, which were fine, we waited 50 minutes to get our entrees. Ours, the Taco Truck, was an overly greasy, overly cooked and overly sauced mess, but was presented okay and was filling at least. However, the dish ordered by our partners was cold. It took 10 minutes to get someone to return the item to the kitchen. No more than 60 seconds later, another dish masquerading as the one that was ordered showed up. It was warm, but was not prepared as expected and looked nothing like the entree that had been served to the neighboring table and had first showed up cold at ours. Our friends took a few bites and pronounced it barely edible. It took another 20 minutes before a person I believe to be the floor manager came over and asked how we were doing. He took away the dish without offering a replacement, or a glass of wine or even indicating that we would not be charged. Meanwhile, our waiter had no idea how the dish was supposed to have been prepared. Finally, our friends had to ask the floor manager to make sure we were not charged.
We will be back, because I am hopeful that this was just an anomaly. Our friends will never be back.
Mr. Samuelsson needs to get his kitchen and service staff in order.
The food was spectacular and the service was beyond expectation! The only other exceptional service experience I've ever had was at Commander's Palace in New Orleans.
We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation and was willing to wait for next available table. After a long wait, we were told we can be seated downstairs if we pay $20 each because there will be a live band performing soon. We had a long wait before our order arrived to the table. The steak was so hard, it couldn’t be chewed (no exaggeration). Then we had a long wait for the check. Downstairs was so dark, we had to use our phone flashlights to see the menu, our food, and check. The service and food failed my expectations.
Birthday celebration for two of us in our group of four.
Made even more special by being able to have our photo taken with Marcus Samuelson.
Did I say how wonderful the food was?
As always Red Rooster was a pleasurable experience. Whether for a date, family gathering, or any special occasion The Red Rooster is always one of my top choices!
The food was terrific and the atmosphere filled with energy. The problem was our waiter. He took a long time before taking our order and there was a lengthy gap between getting the appetizers and the entrees. Most inexcusable, however, was the 15 minute wait after the presentation of one of the entrees and when it was returned to the table after being cut into serving portions by the kitchen. To their credit, the manager came over, apologized and gave us complimentary desserts. Really, I would have preferred to have had a meal without having to complain and gladly paid for our our desserts!
Very Good food. Ambiance is good. Good diversity in the servers and clients.
