Awesome experience great food and met the owner
Food and service were excellent! But TOO LOUD! First time I tried going there was on a Sunday and it was a mess, the hostess was not clear about the table arrangement. Basically we were told that at 4pm they would open the restaurant and whoever was there would get a table, this was at 3:50pm and the place was jammed packed, so it seemed like we would have to fight for our table in 10min. We decided to make a reservation for another day. The overall experience was good and food is very good BUT the music is TOO LOUD you can barely talk to each other without shouting. I would not like to go back to the restaurant when a band is playing, it was too much!
The food and ambiance was amazing, but unfortunately the service was poor. Not one person came to check on how our food was and it took over 20 minutes once we completed our meal to have someone come by. In addition we ordered a second round of drinks which took 20 minutes to come and the order was wrong. We had to request the bill approximately 20 minutes later and our bill was incorrect. This is extremely unfortunate as I live in Harlem and was excited to celebrate Father’s Day with my partner albeit belated.
A wonderful dining experience. Not only is the food exquisite (a tuna appetizer out of this world, possibly the best burger I have ever had, intriguingly surprising cat fish), the service impeccable, and the dining room inviting. but the entire staff works to ensure that we feel as welcome as if we had been invited to their home.
Food was poorly seasoned
Waffle was burned
Greens were full of stems (more stems and leafs)
While I enjoyed the experience of the restaurant, I don't think I would run back. It's OK. My salmon was overcooked as was my tuna appetizer. The service was plentiful but amateurish--if the food runner didn't know what item was ordered by a particular diner, he just placed it in the center of the table. Dinner plates were removed while one of the diners was still eating their entree.
The food was fantastic! We ate two different starters, meatballs and sallad. Then we ate three different main dishes. Both the entrees and the main dishes had fantastic flavors. We finished with incredibly good desserts, peanutbutter crunchbar and bananaoudding doughnut.
Every bite was great. Devilled eggs, corn bread, salad, meatballs, shrimp and grits, fried chicken. We shared it all. The collard greens were outstanding! Marcus Samuelson has a lot to be proud of here in Harlem.
We were the first of about 5 tables to come in on June 17, 2019, at 1130 am. a guy with dark hair and glasses, kept coming to our table telling us who would be our server then kept turning to tell us that another person will actually be our server. No one shows up to take our order for over twenty minutes and all the tables around us already had their orders taken and were starting to be served. We had to ask someone to please take our order and it ended up being the same waiter that kept giving us different names of people that would serve us. When we were finally served then workers kept coming to our table and rudely getting in our way as they wiped the table, one person took my sister's plate while she was still grabbing food from it, and our waiter even pulled a napkin from under my sister's phone. The service in here is terrible, at least it was for us, which is unfortunate because the food is very good. Our waiter was the worst, I don't know what his issue was with us. I don't care if staff is quiet or lacks a bubbly personality but to do your best to ignore us, then push us out when it wasnt busy was really disappointing.
After seeing Marcus several times on television, it was a must that we spend some time here during our NYC vacation. We arrived an hour or so before our reservation (had drinks at the bar) and left when the place closed! Great food, music, and ambiance. All dishes our group ordered were excellent: sea bass, short ribs, beef curry and scallops
Can't wait to return
Great ambiance, salmon was super basic, sea bass was better. Mac and greens should be sold/served separately
This is my 3rd time in a year coming here for Father's Day. Always a good friendly vibe and LOVE the live band.
It was everything we heard about and more!!! The food, drinks and service were top notch.
The food was awesome. Restaurant was highly recommended. Will be visiting again!
The food was incredible. Never had chicken like this before.. the fried chicken taken to next level with some great cooking skill.. never thought fast food could be elevated to fine dining like this. The chicken was so soft and juicy all the way through!. I had the yard bird(fried chicken) and the jerk chicken. The staff was great.. a couple of them came by us to check how we were doing and if we found everything okay or not. The food was served right away when we ordered there was no wait at all!
All in all absolute 5 star experience.
So first- go to Harlem. See Harlem. Second- go to Red Rooster. We split things because we wanted to try a bunch of things. We had the G.O.A.T. Which is braised goat and reminds me of a stew. It comes with red rice and island flat bread. It’s awesome. Sweet, and spice filled bites. Probably one of the best things on the menu as was told to the by our server. Some of the things they have are seasonal. Also get Gigi’s collard greens as a side. By far the best I have ever had. They also have a whole chicken you can get- we didn’t get it but it looked amazing too. Comes with Mac and cheese. We also had the crab cakes- real crab and had a date sauce on top.
I had the Harlem Mule- was made with Bourbon. Pretty tasty. And my boyfriend had a Bourbon Negroni- stating by far the best one he every has had.
For dessert we had the Freedom Cake which is devils food cake with peanut butter- coconut caramel filling, also rich in flavor and a good way to end the meal.
I’m not really sure how you can go wrong with anything and this restaurant is a good way to start out seeing Harlem- or finish, whatever you like. Such a good place to eat.
The food is very good, the service professional and the atmosphere fun. But it unfortunately doesn’t live up to expectations and the prices are a touch too high for a restaurant which is good but not really great.
This is our second visit. The food is really great as is the service. the major problem is the noise. We had difficulty hearing each other speak, which is a shame since it cancelled out the benefits of such great food.
My missus didn’t like the noise / menu so we had to leave. Overall looked. Like a decent place.
This is a fabulous place in terms of ambiance, vibe, music and service. Extremely friendly. The food is good but certainly not great, but the me u is varied and interesting, sort of creole, I guess. The fried chicken is very good and the jerk is pretty good too. Shrimp and grits were very tasty. The rest was ok. It is pretty expensive all things considered, but it is definitely a fun place to visit.
If you are looking for comfort food that is delicious, this is the place. The wait staff were personable and attentive. The restaurant was very busy and loud, but we sat outside, so were a bit removed from the bustle. Everyone in our party of 6 said they would go back.
Best Chicken and Waffles. Cornbread is a must. Hot Honey Chicken is outstanding. Roasted Cauliflower with Eggplant and Shrimp is delicious. Only the Fried Catfish main course and donought dessert were a disappointment. We will be back.
We were visiting the area from out of town and made reservations prior to arriving in NY because of the restaurant’s popularity. At the last minute, I had to rearrange my schedule and could not keep my reservations and they were very accommodating which was a huge relief as there was another couple with us. Upon arrival, we were immediately impressed with the decor and ambiance. Although a Wednesday night, the place was hopping and filled with many well dressed and very diverse people which is always inviting. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with the selection of our items and was attentive. We wanted to try several items so we ordered the snack of deviled eggs, meatballs, and marcus’ cornbread, all of which were satisfying. My husband especially enjoyed the meatballs and the devil eggs were melt in your mouth good. We could have made a meal out of this, but my husband is a spare ribs aficionado and decided that the block party ones sounded better than the Obama ones. He said the meat fell off the bones and he enjoyed he flavoring and the sides so no complaints with that. I ordered the chicken and substituted a second dark meat portion in place of the white which was juicy and delicious. I also had a combo lemonade/tea made fresh by the bartender and it is definitely worth ordering. Something that none of us at the table cared for was The crab cakes. They had a very fishy taste and the chef explained that he does not use bread crumbs, instead substituting shrimp paste. Apparently, this is how real crab cakes are supposed to taste, but I’ll stick with what I know. The dessert of a caramelized banana inside of a donut with cream and ice cream was unremarkable and I would not order, again. All-in-all, the experience was well worth the visit and did not get 5 stars because we did find some aspects of the food unremarkable. Our food bill for two was over $120 when tip was added in, but after dining in NY for almost a week, that was OK.
The staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious. Our waitress explained the menu, really giving us a sense of the flavors and portions of the dishes and we were not disappointed with our selections. Great vibe - can’t wait to go back!
Excellent food and excellent service. It's my second time to the restaurant and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Look forward to eating and drinking at Red Rooster Harlem again!
Food was excellent and service was good. Noise from bar band penetrated the entire restaurant and made conversation impossible. I measured it at an average of 92 DB which is equivalent to eating next to a power tool.
Recommend that you have a drink at the bar so you can say you were there and take food to go or eat elsewhere.
We had a god time in the restaurant. Zzzžzxcccccccccccccccccccc
I loved the restaurant and the location! It was one of the best meals we had in NYC. We ordered the cornbread, Mac and greens, burger, honey chicken, and shrimp and grits. Everything was delicious. The interior of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. I will definitely come again.
The food is always delicious at Red Rooster! I've eaten there probably a dozen times at this point and I've never been disappointed in anything I eat or drink.
The service on my most recent visit, however, wasn't great. We had a reservation and had to wait (standing) for almost half an hour past our reserved time. We weren't offered anything to make the wait more pleasant. While the hostess was very apologetic, at the very least a round of drinks or appetizers should have been comped.
Fantastic restaurant! My only regret is not coming here sooner! But, we will be back!
There's a lovely atmosphere. The staff are friendly and willing to help. There was live Jazz playing when we went which was absolutely amazing, great band.
The food was great, had the crab cakes to start, G.O.A.T as my main and ended with the banana doughnut. Every course was equally delicious.
Well worth a visit.
Everything it was cracked up to be! Service was great...food was even better!
Perfect place for good food, friendly people and good wibes!
Copied from my Yelp review:
I blame myself and Buzzfeed Worth It for giving into the hype of Red Rooster. Bad service and dry/over cooked food was a bad way to end my weekend in NY. We had reservations at 4:30 and got sat immediately. After we got greeted drink orders were taken, our waitress didn't show up again till 5:07 to take food orders.
For starters, the wild wild wings were good but wayyyy too overdressed. The sauce was good in small doses but not drenched and dripping. The entrees though... everything just derailed from there.
The hot honey yardbird was drier than the Sahara. On Worth It, the hosts chicken was DRIPPING with sauce and I understand I'm just some pleb eating a meal and not hosting a show but the chicken was just bad. No sauce, overcooked, and underseasoned. My guests got the Lenox burger (said it was one of the worst burgers she ever had and the bun was stale) while my other guest got the G.O.A.T. He also didn't enjoy it and for goat that's braised, the meat was tough and underseasoned. Just overall really disappointed but the Chef's Choice Mocktail was good, under than that I was severely underwhelmed.
Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back again.
Dont like when they giving you the bill before you finish eating and drinking
So delicious - I wish I could order everything on the menu :))))
Wait for the table about 15 minutes over reservations time
Didn’t have mezcal which was on the cocktail menu and a few other beers also in the menu
Didn’t have one of the special dishes for two on menu
Steak was great
Service and food were great but sooooooo LOUD
