Casual and warm atmosphere. The staff is SO FRIENDLY. as soon as we walked in, a man held the door for us, then another man shook my hand and welcomed me with a warm sincere smile. The food was just as I had expected -DELICIOUS but we over ate. We ordered a lot of dishes to share. In order of preference (most favorite to least favorite): corn bread with cranberry butter (melt in your mouth delicious!), chicken and waffle appetizer ( never had chicken taste so good), pumpkin bisque ( I cannot even describe it- it’s nothing like anything I’ve had before!), lobster and crab ceviche, crab cakes, bourbon ribs, the Obama short rib. I loved the short rib meat but I felt like the dish was too rich. The meat is very tender/rich already bc of the fat, but then a thick rich sauce is in top of it. I don’t know how one person could finish it. I was thankful we shared it. Overall it was an amazing experience. Staff was amazing.
First time there. Great meal.
Very good for restaurant week .
What a great spot. I am so sorry that I waited so long to try this place. An historic gem with great food and service.
Loved everything about this meal. Location (literally steps from subway), atmosphere, energy, diverse crowd (both ethnicity and age), service.... and the food was amazing. I am not a New Yorker but have been trying to get a reservation here for years — it’s definitely on my list for a return visit. I went with two natives who also had not been and they plan to return also. There was a live band so it was VERY loud — not the place to go if you are planning to catch up or chat with friends. This is definitely a place to go for the experience as much as the food. Next visit I plan to go early to sit at the bar and enjoy the venue as much as the meal.
My husband and I traveled to NYC for my birthday from Sacramento, Ca. and decided to try Red Rooster after being a fan of watching Chopped cooking show. The food was outstanding, service amazing, vibe and jazz was just the best experience to have for my 58th birthday!!! We ordered the Taco Truck!! Oh my....... no words to describe how great the food was!! Homemade cornbread with raspberry butter just couldn’t get enough! We didn’t have enough room to experience dessert so... Can’t wait to get back to NYC to experience Red Rooster!!
Had to pay a cover charge for the club downstairs after I paid 250.00 on dinner! Brightside, the steak was delicious, but the portions are very small for the prices.
Wonderful evening ! Host took great care of us , bartenders were super friendly and professional and waitress was informative and a delight . Food was delicious as well ! Looking forward to returning .
It was our first time in New York City, and I told my friend that we have to go to the Red Rooster because I have heard about it for years and I have watched Marcus on the TV show Chopped and just love him. Our experience was great from the time we walked in until the time we walked out. We both loved the atmosphere and the Decore was so hip and funky. We both absolutely loved, loved, loved the music. Our waitress Norah J , Was so fun in here and she really made our experience special. My friend had the jerk chicken and absolutely loved it. I had the Obama short rib and it was delicious and so tender. We also have deviled eggs for a snack and shared a pitcher of the Rooster Punch, which we highly recommend. We topped it off with the perfect dessert the s’mores Sunday. I would also like to mention that this restaurant is perfect to just hang out with friends to listen to some great music and have a few cocktails, seven days a week. Marcus, please open up a Red Rooster in the peninsula of San Francisco:) thank you for a wonderful experience and we wish you many more years of success and God bless. Oh! Where did you get the Prince plate that’s located between the bathrooms and the kitchen area💜?
Good food with some flavor combinations I tasted for the first time and enjoyed! Good ambiance and attentive service.
The crab cakes had an awful after taste. The shrimp and grits portion was small. Poor value for the high cost of the entree.
Had read about Red Rooster so while in NYC for a business trip, decided to try this joint out with my spouse. The location in Harlem was easy to get to, definitely book in advance to guarantee a table (we did, but there was a line for those without bookings) and we were seated quickly. Drinks featured local beers, creative cocktails and a reasonable wine list (didn't try any wines). The food menu wasn't extensive, but did consist of a variety of types of local cuisine with a Southern fusion feel. We tried a couple of 'snacks' for starters, with the Shrimp (Prawn!) Cocktail being a highlight. Depending upon what you order for entree, portion sizes ranged from reasonable to quite large, so sharing is an option as well (we had Pork Ribs and Fried Chicken). I recommend this restaurant, particularly for overseas visitors (like myself).
Lots of fun!
I feel red rooster had its hey day but the menu needs some revamping. For tourists and those that haven’t been its great. But if you have been a few times it’s all the same. The servers are great and the service is good.
Very friendly service
Our lunch was very enjoyable in a lively, upbeat and colorful atmosphere. All of the food we ordered was delicious and was plated attractively. Great handcrafted cocktails. Loved this restaurant!
The service was first rate. I have only good things to say about the experience I received from the time I walked in to the time I left. And again, my server was first rate. The restaurant was a little noisy but not overly so given it wasn't totally full, but I think at night, if the floor was full then it would be really noisy. Fun if you are in a party mood, maybe not so much if you are trying to have a deep conversation. The bar scene would definitely be the place to be if you were thinking of having fun. I was a little surprised by the food as I had expected better given reviews that I read. Might be I didn't maybe order the right things. Don't get me wrong, it was good food but just not as great as the reviews I read. I will certainly go back and order some other things and re-think it.
Red Rooster lunch is the time to go - the nights are horribly loud and crowded. The food was all really good too.
An outstanding evening: atmosphere, service, food - everything was just fantastic! I highly recommend the Obama short rib, but all dishes were absolutely delicious. Definitely one of NYCs favorites.
To loud music. Impossible to talk and Even beat the waiter.
I loved my visit to Red Rooster with a group of friends. The food was rich and satisfying. We enjoyed the cornbread, seafood jambalaya (though this was more like a paella), short ribs, and the hot yardbird, of course. My only gripe is that we waited 20 minutes for our table, despite having made a reservation.
Excellent drinks and great atmosphere for a date night. Skip the chicken, and go straight to the must try short rib.
Brunch at the Red Rooster is the best experience in NYC. Don’t miss it!
The food is definitely the highlight if Red Rooster. It was a little too dark in the restaurant and space is limited. I'm a large man, so the wooden chairs wobbled a little. People without reservations waiting to be seated kind of stare which is noticeable. However, once the food arrives, your mind blocks out everything and focuses on the food. I started with the Pumpkin soup which was perfect for a winter day in NYC. I ordered the ribs for my entree. It was the perfect portion. My wife had the hot honey chicken. It's a big piece of chicken that is fried and seasoned perfectly. I know because she took some home and I ate it. It didn't stand a chance. The chicken didn't even dry out in the microwave so I could only imagine how juicy it was when they brought it out. Overall, my experience was worth it. A little expensive for comfort food, but worth it because service was very attentive and respectful. I'd definitely dine their again.
Had brunch with my bff and I loved it!
It was great! Food was good and service was A+
Of all the restaurants we have tried while on vacation in New York, this has been our favourie by far. Easily accessible by subway, this place is thumping! The vibe and music are fabulous and the food and service outstanding. We had never tried this type of soul food before and we are hooked! The portions are overly generous and the restaurant very kindly offered a take home pack. I could not fault this restaurant at all!
Not southern soul food but it was still good
This place is definitely hip and happening! Easy to get to off the subway in Harlem. Cozy booth and indoor décor really set the mood! Even the bathroom décor was impressive :) Service was attentive and food was yummy! A bit pricy, but overall a delicious meal - prefix lunch menu was amazing and allowed you to try a bit of everything! Even saw the owner walking around and greeting patrons - a major plus! Definitely a gem worth stopping by at!
We had a great experience at dinner! All the food was fantastic and the service was great. Our appetizer came out about 2 minutes after we ordered and entree was right on time as well. We got the seafood jambalaya for two, which was big enough for two people to have two dinners, and delicious.
Amazing!! It’s a happy place with delicious food
The chicken dish was the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ll definitely be back
Great food, service and environment. It could a little bit cheaper, but it’s not a place to eat in a daily basis. So, it was worthy.
Very very noisy. Did not serve drinks until we had finished the appetizer. Good if you like spicy soul food in a very noisy atmosphere. Cheerful wait staff but noise was overwhelming, even without my hearing aid.Would not return.
First time here.. our waitress was excellent! Food was excellent. We will definitely be returning..
Great food and Service!
Great experience and good food!!
The chicken is always superb! However, the sides need work. The restaurant tries to do a twist to classic dishes like Mac & cheese and sweet potatoes, but I am not a fan.
The drinks are also amazing though.
I was excited to finally dine here for brunch. We were a party of 4 and were seated promptly when we arrived. The tables are very small for the amount of food that can fit for 4 people. The waiters and staff bumped into my chair numerous times while dining so it was a very uncomfortable set up. We ordered cokes and had to remind our waiter after our appetizers were served and main courses were coming out that we still didn’t have our drinks. The table he served seated behind us who arrived after us had their drinks served immediately. The food came at different times. I was not able to try one of the items since as I was eating one, a server bumped into me causing multiple glasses of water to fall and spill over myself, another guest, and onto our plates. These items were not refunded and we still had to pay for a meal we did not get to eat. Terrible service but for the food I did manage to try, it was very good. I hope to revisit again to give it another chance but it’s unlikely with the thousands of other amazing restaurants in the city.
