Red Ox Inn
Love this place but the service was not up to par tonight.
Having only been to Red Oz Inn a handful of times, each time I go, I am impressed. The food has such familiar food items in it, but somehow the taste is like nothing I have ever eaten. Amazed by the lovely pairing of ingredients to make such a great dish each time! And the dessert this time was by far my favourite birthday dessert.
The Red Ox has been our birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions first choice for years (we've lost track of exactly how many) and never disappoints. When we have out of town guests we always make sure to get to Red Ox — it's that good!
Thanks for a lovely meal and considerate service. We will be back.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Delicious seasonal food, complex, interesting flavors, knowledgeable servers and cozy ambiance. Its a little pricey for everyday, but is definitely my go to for occasions or anniversaries.
We had a fabulous meal but were definitely aggravated by serving staff trying to usher us out the door around 10pm. This is not what we have come to expect from one of our favourite high end dining establishments in Edmonton.
The food was outstanding; great portions, amazing taste and presentation.
Service was very slow for the restaurant bring only half full. Waitress went to one table 4 times before she came back to ours.
We were sat in the back corner where the fridge and freezer door were constantly being closed so hard the walls were shaking.
Awesome food as usual. Spouse had the heirloom tomato soup to start she enjoyed it immensely. I had a carrot salad, it was interesting and I enjoyed it. For mains we both had the salmon. The skin was crisp and the fish moist and tasty. We really enjoy the fish course at The Red Ox. For dessert she had the passionfruit Panna cots and I had the bread pudding. Both were tasty. All in all another gteat meal.
On arrival, I was asked if I had a reservation, and the hostess looked flustered as she checked under both my first and last names. The server presented me with the wine list, which is quite extensive. Of the 3 courses I ate, the tartare was the best. For the entree, I had duck, which I found disappointing. The portion was large, but far too rare. The 2 slivers of roasted carrot alongside were hardly worth putting on the plate. The presentation was lacking. Dessert was a passionfruit panna cotta, light and creamy. Very flavourful.
If you are looking for an intimate and romantic dinner, this is not the place. I did not find the ambience relaxing at all.
Food was great. Male server...not so much
Love the food here! Make sure you make reservations as the place is small and could get busy really fast.
The duck was well worth it. The steak was good but not worth the money for the portion served.
This is the second time we have been to the Red Ox in the past two weeks. The service was a little slow the first time, but the food was good and so we decided to give it another try. This time the service, or lack of, was ridiculous. We waited 20 minutes just to order our wine, then the waiter wanted our appetizer and main order before he'd even brought the drinks to the table. Also to add to the annoyance, they only carry two bottles of each wine and as someone had already ordered one bottle, we had to change wine after one bottle. With all the premium service at restaurants offering cuisine at this price point, we assuredly will NOT be back
Excellent service and food. Helped us with wine pairing; great wine list.
Totally enjoy the restaurant.
We had an amazing experience here last week. We very rarely get to go out anymore (kids will do that to you!), but we have been hearing about this place for years and finally decided to get a sitter and head out for a much-needed date night.
The place is very tiny with just a few tables. The décor is very rustic. It has a feel of being a renovated 1960's bungalow or something, but I absolutely loved it. If you want expensive chandeliers, this is not the place for you.
The food was amazing! The small, but carefully though-out menu had some great options. This is definitely gourmet, 5-star food. If you don't appreciate refined cuisine, this is not the place for you. My husband had a delicious tomato bisque soup and I had a beef tartare. The tartare was overly salty, so that was the only small drawback of our entire experience. I had the most fabulous duck entrée which I HIGHLY recommend, and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had a beef dish which he loved. Our desserts were almost too pretty to eat. I had a key lime pie mousse and my husband had a chocolate dessert. The server recommended a great Malbec wine, which we loved.
We will definitely be back! Edmonton is really lacking in the fine dining department (we have far too many franchises or spots for casual fare!). This is a restaurant we can't wait to head back to and we're happy we found a spot with delicious and creative cuisine such as this!
Awesome service. Like literally the best you could expect. Very thoughtful people workimg there and they want your experience to be top notch, we closed the place down and didn't feel at all rushed
Love this place, been 4 times now and it's definetly my favorite in the city.
Too noisy. Not a good dinning experience
We received a gift certificate for The Red Ox Inn from a friend and what a great gift that was. The food was delicious, the ambiance was quiet and nice and the service was great. I would highly recommend this little hidden gem to anyone looking for a romantic meal.
The Red Ox is a real treasure. The food is outstanding, as was the service. It's very small, only sitting 30 people. A party of 6 was very loud, but we enjoyed every bite of our meal in spite of it.
Not cheap, but worth every penny. Yes, we'd eat here again!
I've been here several times previously, and every time it's a treat. Just a lovely place - pricey, but worth it in my opinion.
Great restaurant to dine with romance. Great wine selection. Menu is designed to gracefully tease your palette. Tartar best we ever had!
My birthday date with my husband was absolutely spectacular. Every bite of food was delightful, the service was impeccable, and I want to go back to have every single thing on the menu before it changes with the seasons. Highly, highly recommend!
Simple menu full of excellent choices. Friendly, competent and knowledgeable staff. Good wine recommendations that complemented exceptional flavours. A must-experience Edmonton culinary gem!
The old 1950s train station atmosphere was disappointing at the outset and after we were seated in a squishy little corner I was so cold I had the shakes. The decor was so barren, no plants, no pictures on the drab walls and cheap lighting, created somewhat less than a “ romantic “ atmosphere.
We enjoyed the food and the service was great , but we were underwhelmed.
The salmon was cooked to perfection. It was moist and melt in your mouth. The flavour of all the food was exquisite. Totally memorable. Thank you for a palate memory.
Always awesome- great wine list- and experienced staff!
Excellent service and fine dining. Highly recommended
We were celebrating the end of school year with our teenage daughters. The service was very personable. One of our daughters has a serious nut/peanut allergy. This was taken care of without hesitation. In fact - it is the first time that she's been able to have a desert at a restaurant that wasn't a fruit cup. They made the dessert "to order" (using regular flour for the bread pudding instead of almond flour)! It's a little pricey, but I believe it's worth it. We all enjoyed the delicious food (all three courses), and will be back again!
Small, cozy. Our waitress was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was for Mothers Day and we had never been there before. What a delight. Fantastic appetizers and the entres were outstanding. We'll certainly be back.
We are foodys and i really wish the waiter at least asked how we were upon arrival. No small chat, no engagement....which was surprising. Food was good. Not overly full when leaving but it was good.
My husband and I haven't been able to get into the Red Ox in as we leave it too late and it is full so this year for his birthday I booked really early and he was excited to go again. Our meals were both excellent and our server was great with wine suggestions. It was a great place for a Birthday celebration.
The food was excellent but pricey.
Small place but very cozy. Seemed very loud, however I had no problem hearing my date.
Brought my wife here for our anniversary, because it's where I took her on our first date.
I had a special request to have them serve our wedding cake (we saved the stop tier in the freezer), for dessert. It was a wonderful surprise for her. The setting is very nice for a date, very quiet and good people around. The servers are great, and the food is very good too!
Absolutely amazing!! Service was superb, as were the food & drink!! Delicious, classy, amazing service, I would highly recommend and will definitely be back!!
My wife and I recently celebrated her 50th birthday dinner here. Food was amazing, service was great, excellent wine selection. Highly recommend!
Everything was exception but the table with the screaming babgy was hard on the ears in the small space. It was not Red Ox's fault, it was situational but did diminish from the ambiance.
Early evening retirement dinner. Cozy corner seating for 3. Very welcoming. Food and wine list very good! Outstanding evening with my wife and son
Wonderful food. I had cod which was superbly prepared and just the right amount.
