Red Owl Tavern

The host was incredibly rude to us- arriving 15 min early for brunch.
The burger was cold, saw it sitting under lamps for 20 mins before it was brought out.
Eggs Benedict completely over cooked- eggs could have bounced on floor.
My meal was served 10 mins after everyone else- sent to wrong table.
Will not go back anytime soon.
We were in Philadelphia on Valentine's day and were staying at the Kimpton so we made our dinner reservations at the Red Owl. Service was very, very slow, food was , at best, mediocre and it was expensive. Not a good experience.
Valentines Day! We weren’t aware of the set menu, and we were surprised to find that most of the courses were seafood, which we do not enjoy. We asked if it was possible to order from the regular menu, and our server happily obliged. Our food was delicious and the service fantastic.
Good and great service, I would definitely recommend.
Over the course of my 3 night stay, I dined here several times having the scallops, steak and trout. The scallops were absolutely delicious. The steak had quite a lot of fat and considering the most pricey, disappointing. The stuffed trout was Devine and cooked perfectly.
Great meal and excellent service. Relaxed vibe. We'll be back.
I went here for my birthday the food was just okay. I was a little disappointed as I looked for to my meal all the day. The service was also just okay.
We tried a bunch of starters and they were all great. The salads and desserts were great too. They have a lot of stuff you see at other restaurants but put a unique twist to it like the brussel sprouts had pomegranate seeds in it or a kale salad with dates in it. The presentation was nice, the atmosphere was warm and the service was excellent. You should definitely give this restaurant a try.
Burgers and fries were perfect! We'll go back to enjoy that again! Had really good service, very atttentive guy waiting on our table.
We went there for center city restaurant week celebrate the 38th anniversary of our first date . The food was fantastic especially the roasted brussel sprouts. There are great vegetarian and vegan options. Our server was attentive and personable. We will be back.
Our dinner was tasty. The salmon really good. My husband had “impossible” meatballs and pasta. While very good the pasta was a bit skimpy for a main dish serving. Maybe if bread was on the table? Good place to meet and chat. The special cocktail was delicious and our waitress was ever so helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed!
Food and service are AMAZING! We ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts as an appetizer and I HIGHLY recommend them! As an entree I ordered the chicken and my friend ordered the salmon, both very good!
The Restaurant is nice inside and they have a kids menu. Chicken nuggets and fries were good for kids but the halibut entree dish was inedible and I’m not that picky. The fish was extremely dry and had no flavor the sauce was a weird soup mustard and had strange chunks of sweet potato puree.. not good. I love bok choy but this was fried and only tasted like oil. I wish it were steamed instead. I never write reviews but was very disappointed with the meal especially for the prices. I would stick with burgers and fries for this place.
It's a very nice place and the food is good. Working downtown can be expensive so mostly I bring lunch so when its restaurant week, you like to treat yourself to something new. Servers should know that it comes every year and not get an attitude when you ask for the restaurant week menu or disappear from your table because your not ordering from the regular menu. Just my thoughts. Other then that, my lunch was great.
We went for restaurant week and the food was phenomenal. Also, the waitresses and staff were all awesome. I highly recommend
Limited but good menu for brunch. Food was tasty.
We were seated upstairs in a relatively dark area with a view of the bar obscured by large hanging lights.
I found this spot using my OpenTable app, it was nearby. What a find! The food was delicious, I had gluten-free scallops with celery root, cider au jus. Service was wonderful. I will be back!
Needed someplace not too pricy near 5th & Market. Nice crowd. Good food pleasant server
Everything was fantastic except the halibut was slightly over cooked. But the duck was fantastic!
Location is great in relation to historic area sites. Service was great too, and using Open Table made it very easy to reserve a table. The food was tasty, but there was more of it than we could eat. Hazelnut latte was really good. We would definitely recommend it to others.
There were a few glitches during dinner...from our order being taken to served to table was a 50 minute wait. They didn't put my husband's order in...but finally did after mentioned. I never got the punch drink I ordered.
All this "said", the manager and staff were very apologetic, polite, and accommodating. They took my husband's meal off the bill and gave us 2 coupons for free apps on our next visit. And we will visit again because it was Christmas and terribly busy...and if you can't be appreciative of folks working on Christmas so you may have a meal then you don't get being patient and kind.
Simply delicious and delightful! Can’t wait to go back
We went here because it was open on Christmas Day. This is the main reason I give it three stars instead of two stars. The brunch menu was interesting, but what I wanted was the frittata, which they were out of. The burger was good, but way overpriced, as was the egg white omelette. Over the food was good, but not worth the price.
Fantastic Christmas Eve dinner. It was Chinese pop up theme and all the food was delicious. We started with some apps (forgot to take pics cuz we dug right in) but we got the sweet and sour Brussel sprouts, vegetable dumplings, and crab wontons. All was very delicious and tasted very fresh. For entrees many stuck with small salads cuz we were full from apps but my mom and I got entrees. The bbq salmon was one of the best I’ve ever had. And of course always room for dessert but while all were tasty if I had to rank in order of deliciousness it would go dark chocolate custard it was creamy and the peppermint flavor ice cream was outstanding. Then the eggnog crème brûlée, and lastly bread pudding( not that it was not good just not the biggest fan of that type of dessert).
The duck breast was excellent. The tiramasu brownie sundae is awesome!
Nice restaurant/bar for a drink and a bite to eat near Independence Hall. Menu has nice entrees and a great burger. Will keep it in mind for our next visit to this part of Philly!
Birthday dinner with family.
Had dinner with friends here the Saturday after Thanksgiving. One of the few places we could get a reservation. But we had eaten here before so we knew it would be good and it was. Service was great. The noise level was high but we were on the fist floor near the bar. Should of asked for a table up stairs. Great location and easy walk to the train.
We had the best waitress and everyone was so nice!! The chicken dinner I had was the best. I highly recommend this restaurant and the location is excellent!
we were there at 6:45 for thanksgiving. we had a nice, quiet booth upstairs. our server was very nice and the food came out quickly. we had a yummy turkey dinner and it was really well priced at $24.00
the only problem, and unfortunately, it left us with such a "bad taste in our mouths" was that while my friend was having her cappucino, at about 8:30, the server came over and said his manager said they were closing. i asked if she could just finish and they said no, she can finish it downstairs in the reception area. we were really turned off. i mean it was still early and who would imagine that we would be rushed out when our reservation was taken for 6:45.
I visited for Thanksgiving dinner and had a wonderful time. Delicious food and friendly staff! Would highly recommend to first-time visitors, like me, the BEST location in Old City.
We went here on Thanksgiving, because when I called I asked if they were offering their regular kids menu. When we arrived, it turns out they were not, and whomever I spoke with, either couldn't pay attention, or didn't bother to find out the right answer. The manager, still treated us very nicely, and bought us our meal. My kids are picky, but we were able to cobble together a few things that they like, and had a much more pleasant Thanksgiving than we could have otherwise, given the circumstances. My wife and I really enjoyed our food, and the service was very good.
I try to understand the price gouging on food I can make at home since they’re in such a tourist based location, but this is also Philadelphia and there are hundreds of far better restaurants.
Not only did they try to report that I skipped my reservation, they also charged my card twice.
There’s a reason the Philly Service Industry doesn’t support you unless you’re hosting a Diageo event and we have to go.
Our group of four came to enjoy brunch at Red Owl Tavern before a day at a museum. Everything everyone ordered was delicious, our orders were correct, and our server was delightful. From the cinnamon roll to share to my huevos rancheros, we really enjoyed our visit. I only wish the hot food could have arrived hot-not warm but cool in the middle. We sent nothing back because the flavors were amazing, but we hope next time our dishes will be served more appropriately heated.
Graciously accommodated our last minute 12-person brunch. Good for adults and kids alike. Fresh squeezed OJ, attentive servers, fun food, something for everyone.
They completely changed the menu and took off all the good items. What’s left is just ok. The grilled cheese is just a basic grilled cheese that you can make at home. They had 2 items that were delicious, and they are both gone.
Took 10 minutes for anyone to come greet us at our table and when they did it was the manager. He didn’t introduce himself, just asked what we wanted to drink. Our actual server did not come to the table for another 10-15 minutes to take our order. The food was delicious, the service was horrible.
The cheesesteak was so worth it!
Bar staff are fantastic
Food is very good. It’s pretty lively so not for quiet meal.
Everything was delicious. We had the pierogies, burrata toast and wedge salad for appetizers. For entree we had the short rib cavatelli, roasted Amish chicken and lobster Mac n cheese. All very good especially the short rib cavatelli. Service was very good. The food served was timed nicely no rush. Overall great experience
