Red Onion Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Food was ok. The service was great. There was 6 of us in the party. All had something different. Mostly bland. Chicken nuggets on kids meal were processed. Husband liked his chicken wrap. I had the French dip at the suggestion of the server. It was cold. Others had the All the Way hamburger.
Menu had lots of options. It's great when you look at the choices and can't narrow it down to just one, it's a bonus. Our server, Zoey, was delightful at all times while helping us. Definitely a place our family will visit again. It was also one of about 3 options in the Boone, NC area that we could reserve on OpenTable with only a couple hours left to plan.
Although the food was very tasty it came out luke warm and cold in spots. Service was a little slow but tolerable . Brought friends in from out of town and just wish the food had been a little warmer. If the food is great service can be overlooked and vice verser. Unfortunately this time neither stood out
This is a go-to place in Boone for lunch or dinner. They have consistently well prepared dishes with a good variety to meet everyone's taste. The lunch specials are a great value. Neighborhood gem is a good way to describe because you always see people you know in the restaurant.
You probably know that the restaurant scene in Boone is nothing to brag about, mostly fast food and budget oriented. The Red Onion stands out as a solid choice for adults that like finer dining. The food was very good, if not special, and the service was prompt and professional.
Wife and I both had the orange salmon which cooked to our preference and excellent. Veggies were good. Mushrooms not ro my taste.
Service was excellent. Great place, but wasn't conducive to lingering over coffee or a drink. I must add the coffee was excellent, especially with the shot of expresso added.
Had a hard time getting anything to drink water glasses were empty most of the dinner.
Fish was very overcooked it took the word blackened to a new level.
A couple orders were wrong.
steak was ordered med-rare came out med-well.
Mixed drinks took about 15-20 minutes to get.
Martini was cool not cold.
Had a reservation for a party of 12 we were seated promptly
Food is very reasonably priced had it been prepared well.
Waiter was very polite however I think he was a rookie and possibly part of the problem.
Our dinner had special requests that no butter be used in the cooking of the Trout. It was so dripping with butter, utterly drenched that it had to be recooked, That spoiled the entire dinner as it took a long time before the dinner was finally brought back. Then the rice was overdone and the vegetable was cold. Also the portion given for my Salmon meal was extremely small for the price charged. I will never return for dinner there again or recommend it either.
We made reservations for 7pm and we did not receive our food until 8pm. There was not enough people in there at the time for the wait to be so long. Our server was not the issue and therefor we would hope to come back if the wait is not as long. I hope they fix the issue and can be more accommodating. The food was not worth the hour wait.
Food and service were very good. Kitchen left a little to be desired. Friendly waitress--no name tag--took wine order and said "I'll be back with the bread." 3 salmon orders, nicely prepared and enjoyable arrived together, but the fourth entrée--steak--didn't arrive for almost 10 minutes. And we had to ask for bread--were told the kitchen had run out--but it arrived with the steak. All in all, enjoyable if uncoordinated.
