Red O - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
Mom and I Ordered chicken mole. It was too salty. My brother order three different drinks which were not available because something ran out. Very dissappointed considering I really was looking forward to the mole. Will be going to the Hollywood restaurant instead.
The food was incredible and the staff was extremely courteous! I went on a date with my boyfriend here and it was perfect for a date! They sat us at a table closer to the kitchen which was a little noisier. We both ordered off of the Newport Beach Restaurant week menu with the duck taquitos and the 6 oz. filet. The filet was cooked perfectly!
We were promptly seated at a table near the fireplace in a quiet room away from the noisy bar. This was the perfect spot for us; we could converse and enjoy the food and drink. The room was welcoming and well-appointed. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. We started out with the traditional tortilla chips and guacamole...delicious and mild. Our drinks, a Lemon Drop Martini for me and a Margarita for my husband, were well-crafted and Strong. The waiter asked for my vodka preference. Our entrees were the lobster and crab salad and crab and shrimp enchilada. The salad was good with fresh seafood and the dressing no better than average. My enchilada was less than great...I would have expected a more flavorful offering from Mr. Bayless' kitchen. It was bland with no identifying tastes. The vibe was positive and fun. The crowd at the bar was having an amazing Saturday night. The price range is at the high end for the quality of food. Nonetheless it was a enjoyable evening.,
We have been here many times before and always enjoyed it. However, this time it was very different - in a bad way. The staff seemed rushed and the food was not timed properly. We received our appetizers at the same time as our main meals. The server was annoyed that we didn’t want them then. The entrees were then reluctantly taken back and apparently sat under heat lamps then served later. Not appetizing at all and the food was lukewarm. The whole experience was just disappointing.
Rather limited, but expensive, menu that didnt offer anything particularly exciting or unique. The appetizer fundido was cold and greasy.
The bar itself is extensive and the margheritas are tasty. There are a vast number of tequilas available, if that is your liquor of choice.
The singer/guitarist in the bar is very loud; the acoustics in the bar and restaurant amplifies sound. It was difficult to have a normal conversation with others due to the intrusive music.
The food is excellent but the service was poor. Our first course plates were left on the table (pilled) after our main course was served. Our drink glasses sat empty for most of our meal. With the exception of the lady I assume was room manager we were ignored. She did clear the plates and get us new drinks but the rest of the staff were in La La land. There are many more friendly places to eat and I suggest you try elsewhere.
If you are going to participate in restaurant week, you should show off your best fare or even perhaps some new choices. Items chosen for the 'special' menu were right from the everyday menu and I have had them several times. What was the point? Food was average at best. If you've been there before, I would not recommend you go during restaurant week. Food was average at best.
The food is excellent as always, service was great. Ordered lunch from restaurant menu. Appetizers-Mary’s duck taquitos, corn and goat cheese tamales; entrees - short rib barbacoa torta, pescado del dia; deserts- tres leches. Also lots of chips and salsa. This is our favorite place.
Lovely server; food was outstanding as always here.
Took a dear friend’s daughter to dinner.
We both enjoyed it very much.
Six pm on a Sat eve in Jan; thought it wouldn’t be quite so noisy but it was. A tad tough to hear and carry on a normal conversation.
Will schedule earlier next time.
Thank you for a wonderful dinner.
Most definitely NOT your average Mexican cantina. Easy to find, ample parking. Impressive entrance. Friendly staff upon arrival. Very impressive interior. Very attentive wait staff. Great variety on menu to fit all tastes. Overall great experience. Highly recommend. Being from East coast would most definitely return if in the area again.
We went to Red O when it first opened and loved it. This was our 4th visit and we were sadly quite disappointed. 2 major things stand out. The noise level was intolerable. It was impossible to hear people sitting at the same table. This was before the music started.
The second issue was the menu and food. Sadly, this was not "special" in any way. We've eaten at Red O and some of Rick's places in Chicago and were delighted. This menu was lackluster at best.
I'm afraid we won't be coming back.
We were visiting Newport Beach and this was our first visit to the restaurant and loved the vibe!! The hostesses seated us after a few minute wait - our table was in a good location, the food was excellent and the service exceptional. We dined on Christmas Eve a very busy night! Thanks for a great experience!!
