Quality of cuisine far exceeds typical brunch fare. Came here for Easter brunch and was pleasantly surprised to find food that was a notch above all the other brunches I've been to in SD. Because the establishment is smaller, there's more attention to detail.

Okay, so this is our local hangout, so I might be a tad biased, however, the food is really, really good here. Part of the reason is their rather spartan menu offering. but they have got it all down. The bar is average, with lots of premiums, but there's nothing overly-inspired here either. But, hey, I'm a beer drinker and my wife drinks Wine or Martinis, so theres no mystery there; I guess that we are easy to please.

Brunch is good, too, and there's an outdoor fireplace and plenty of heaters for year round comfort outdoors. Indoors, there are plenty of window seats with views of pretty boats in the marina.

Nice place, good service, delicious food (blackened mahi mahi), however a bit overpriced. Good for special occasion. We enjoyed it.

This was our first visit to the Red Marlin and for sure we'll be back. Every aspect was outstanding. We were greeted by the manager who came by our table later to verify everything was satisfactory. Todd was our server and was very knowledgable about menu and attentive. We both had the beet salad, which was delicious and very fresh but also very attractively presented. My wife had the blackened mahi mahi and I had halibut. Both were very fresh and done perfectly. I'm reluctant to order fish in a restaurant because generally its over cooked, but this was done just right. Bay view is great. Although the restaurant was filling up with familiies, the noise level was low enough that you could carry on a conversation.

We came to San Diego on business and booked online before we left our home town. We did not have a bit of trouble with our reservations. The place is amazingly beautiful. The view is wonderful. We could not have asked for better service or food. Everything was wonderful. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to San Diego.

Good for a high class dinner night. A little more expensive than it needs to be, but it's good food an portion sizes. Also great place to take people visiting from out of town. Great service

As a guest over the past few years Red Marlin keeps climbing constantly and aiming to please and never settling for just satisfactory.
The food is simply consistent and remains one of the top choices in the city for fresh seared scallops, salmon, filet mignon, and a variety of other fine items.
When seared halibut is on the menu its a must .

Great food, I would recommend. I've used OPENTABLE for a while and noticed this past week that 1) when I changed number of people on reservation, it showed up going from 4 to 2 yet the restaurant did not have the change.

Was told that during the summer months, it can be overrun with families (read: screaming children), but the night we went it was quiet and romantic. The food was pricey but worth it. If not a weekly choice, definitely good for special occasions. Nice ambiance and views of the Bay. Overall, one of the better meals we've had in San Diego in recent memory.

Even though the Red Marlin was on San DIego's Top 10 list, my wife and I were disappointed with the food and ambiance. Firstly the place was dead, only 10% of the restaurant was occupied. The Pot Sticker appetizer had very little filling and the Blackened Mahi Mahi had no taste whatsoever ever. The Ahi wrapped in Pastry was tasty and the wait staff were good. I'm sure in the summer this place is packed, but not this past Saturday night.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel restaurant. It was wonderful fire pits on the outside patio overlooking the bay and the restaurant itself is very tasteful. I couldn't believe how good the food was. I don't normally expect much from a hotel restaurant but this place is just a restaurant that happens to be part of a hotel. Wonderful service, wonderful food. Definitely recommend to other locals to try out! Particularly in the low season when you aren't surrounded by tourists.

our waiter was not very comfortable in his role. Way to much effort in the answers to the questions posed. Not able to understand that when customers pay by credit card that there should be two receipts, one for the restaurant and one for the customer. Major production trying to pay for the meal. Service either hovering or gone for long periods of time. We sat down at a table assigned to us and shortly thereafter the lights were all dimmed way down. our table had virtually no other direct lighting except for the candle on the table. We moved ourselves to a table which had direct lighting so that we could read the menus.

Went to the Red Marlin for brunch at 10:30 a.m. It IS NOT a brunch restaurant. The menu offerings were limited, nothing grabbed our attention. We all opted for the brunch. Papaya and mango ran out while we were there; other fruits so-so or simply not ripe. Scrambed eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes, egg whites with salmon (tasty), were the only hot dishes offered. A pot of oatmeal, but almost empty. The brunch bar was never replenished while we were there, 10:30 to 12:00. The breakfast is geared toward guests of the Hyatt hotel, families with lots of kids, bathing suits and cover-ups.

Food was great and service was excellant but due to the proximity of the hotel, there were many small children and babies that didn't appreciate the ambiance of teh dining room which made it not as woderful of an experience it could have been. The dress code is casual as there were peole dressed very nicely and some who were in shorts and a T-shirt.

The mahi mahi was excellent.

We joined a group of old friends for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was very accomodating for our group of 10. Even gave us separate checks without a fuss. The view was great and the food was very good. We were so surprized that it wasn't busier for Sunday brunch. It was a great time and I'm looking forward to going there again soon!

Unfortunately, the evening we dined at Red Marlin, the restaurant wqas inundated with very loud young children which, when paying $200 for dinner for 2, was not pleasant. Had the faimilies been there first, we would not have stayed. Also, when we arrived,we told the valet we were dining at the restaurant and he told us there was a $10 fee for parking which we paid. Upon leaving we were told we could have had our parking validated at the restaurant but it was then too late, we had paid. the food and service were great but with the above, we would not dine there again.

Beautiful scenery, looking right out on Mission Bay. We had a window seat, right at sunset- beautiful! I definitely would return to try more dishes. There was a delicious buffet for Thanksgiving, best turkey I have ever head, not even a little dry! The wine was a little pricey, but overall, fantastic!!

The service and food were amazing! We went for our anniversary and were seated with complimentary champagne. Our server also treated us to a personal selection of his favorite red wine for us to have along with our appetizers. The lobster bisque was velvety and full of lobster flavor. We ordered the blue crab cakes, easily 98% crab! The ahi poke was the best of all. We were expecting the ususal small serving of ahi, but were graced with a bounty of ahi! Fresh and delicious. Thankfully we split the blackened mahi mahi served with whipped yams and fresh green beans and that was delicious as well.

Mark this as a solid recommendation. A very good restaurant with a fine view and attentive servers. Food was well and thoughtfully prepared. Recipes showed some originality. Quiet, no rowdy bar scene. Many menu entrees were seafood with pasta; patrons who are not pasta lovers might wish for more variety.

Upscale restaurant in major hotel on the bay, nice view. Started with the wedge salad with blue cheese & nuts, crisp lettuce, great taste, and had the soup, a corn chowder filled with veggies and fish junks, nice flavors, good start to the meal. Entrees included the sauteed shrimp, cooked just right, great tasting, and had the crispy ahi, again cooked just right, tender, cut with a fork, nice flavors. Nice wine list to accompany the menu. Service was good, timely, but no pressure to finish and move on. We are from out of the area and chose this restaurant for the water view, we were not disappointed. Worth the visit.

This restaurant is part of the Hyatt Hotel on Mission Bay in San Diego. I know, I know, hotel restaurants are usually okay but not great. Well, if you want to be amazed, eat at the Red Marlin. The chef here is masterful in creating sumptuous combinations of seafood, meats, and vegetables. The Blackened Swordfish is superb, the Yakitori Beef appetizer is simply delicious. Along with the great view of the sunset, this is a "do not miss" in the Mission Bay area! We stayed in San Diego (Gas Lamp Quarter) for a week and this food was so good we went back a second time!
