Red Marlin - Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Ratings and Reviews
We were surprised to find this wonderful restaurant at the far end of an area of Mission Bay--not that accessible but once you arrive, it's great. Lots of boats and scenic views. The cuisine is delicious although they are a little heavy on the spiciness. Even the clam chowder has jalapeno peppers--I'd suggest they offer a version with and without jalapenos! We had a great waiter, and celebrated a friend's birthday in style. Highly recommended.
To be honest, I haven't been here since the renovation and was sad to see the "classy" atmosphere I remembered was gone. I felt I had arrived at a cafeteria, was very disappointed for our Easter Celebration Brunch. I wouldn't go back, as it just did not feel special. Felt noisy and crowded, the service was slow. Food was expensive for a cafeteria atmosphere!
Originally planned on dinner with a former student of my wife's and her husband along with a couple colleagues. Once we sat and got started others we knew happened by and joined us to where we moved out to the patio so we could fit all 11 of us. Ordered some appetizers and steaks that the chef sliced so we could share, really nice touch. Had a wonderful time enjoying food and drinks until way to late. May do it again tonight.
The Red Marlin was a pleasant surprise find from the flat iron steak to the chocolate raspberry cake, everything was good and cooked just right. The beets carpaccio was an interesting delight as was the spicy clam chowder and excellent crab cakes. Our server Frank was funny and geniunely attentive and engaging to make the dining experience a delight. Definitely will return and is on my short list for San Diego.
We came in for the Restaurant Week menu. We both ordered the same appetizer (Poke), and the Scallops for main course. The food was absolutely perfect. The combinations of flavors complemented each other perfectly. We were both extremely pleased.
The service was also great. Our waiter was cool - and every time my drink was low someone came and replaced the glass without my asking. I could not have asked for a better dining experience. The valet, server, ambiance, everything TOP NOTCH.
A spur of the moment check on Open Table showed this delightful location on Mission Bay in San Diego for a birthday dinner. The surrounding Hawaiian gardens and bayfront location with sparkling lights on the bay in the early evening were a picturebook setting for a most enjoyable birthday dinner. The food and wine were excellent and service top notch. This will now be on our go-to list.
We were staying at the Hyatt for a couple nights and had dinner at the Red Marlin on the second night. The service was lacking, from the time the entree was delivered we did not see the waitress again till she presented the bill. Nice outdoor ambiance, the couches around the fire pits a nice touch. Food was average.
Came for lunch on Sunday. Restaurant was maybe 1/3 full, yet it still took over 2 hours to complete our meal. Three people, one easy entree each (e.g., burgers), and two+ hours! Terrible service from the moment we arrived when there was nobody at the host stand for 10+ minutes, despite the bartender being 10 feet away and waitstaff moving around. Finally seated at a nice window table overlooking the marina - this was the best part of the experience. The carpets are stained and the restaurant generaly has a bit of a rundown feel to it. When the meal was finally delivered (and surprisingly, it was good) and we asked for the check, it was another 15+ minutes before they brought it. And when they brought it back after I gave them the credit card, I saw they had not run the card. I should have just left, but instead went to the host stand to pay where again there was delay and confusion. They seriously need to work on staffing and cleaning the place up.
Great views during our late lunch and fantastic staff who are attentive. However we were disappointed with the custom salad. Portion was very small for its price and plating was unimpressive. Taste was okay though we expected more from a restaurant like this. The short rib taco tasted gamier than I would have expected.
We have been here before and loved it. Now all of the menu items have a hint of heat. They've removed filet mignon and steamed clams. Those were our favorite. Not all wine options are serves per glass. You have to purchase the whole bottle. We won't be back.
Made the late reservation on OpenTable and had few options left but picked Hyatt as a major chain likely to have a nice brunch set up. Pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. Even though some construction and thinking the bay not as scenic as the ocean it ended up being quite nice. I really liked the decor and our window view to the bay was fine. The outdoor seeting looked pretty nice too so will keep in mind for an after work drink. The buffet was plentiful and quality of food was good. Omelet station was efficient. Desserts offered a wide selection. Noticed they had special offerings for kids. Only thing I was not convinced was a plus was the quesadilla station but that was the least of concerns. All in all, it worked out well. My wife was especially pleased with everything and we enjoyed a nice Mother's Day.
Had fresh seafood (sablefish) entree, and requested a different side from what should have accompanied it. Waiter happily accommodated my request, resulting in very enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely recommend the Red Marlin - it has been consistently good.
Whenever we stay here for a conference we always enjoy coming down to breakfast here. The staff is so friendly and bend over backwards to accommodate your needs. The food is always fresh, even on the buffet bar they put out. Good variety with some healthy choices and the views of the marina are a nice way to start your day.
We dined for my birthday and my husband ordered off the restaurant week menu. He LOVED the steak option with crab. I was so pleased to see a really innovative vegetarian option. The boursin quinoa cakes over a pear puree, chili oil and greens were outstanding! I wanted to relive the meal over and over. Thank you Chef!
Hostess, Barman and waitstaff all very friendly and helpful. Our waiter guided us to the best dishes
and was quite candid about the freshness of each dish . Local meat and produce used which is nice.
Food was fine - perfectly served but somehow not "special".
Desserts all had either cinnamon or maple neither flavor I care for but
that is just me.
Nice comfortable dining area with a view of the bay.
