California Grilled Swordfish*
parsnip mash with rosemary honey & toasted pistachios
Charred Sweet & Sour Brussel Sprouts with Furikake Spice
Surf & Turf
grilled angus beef tenderloin, merlot reduction, butter poached lobster tail, jumbo asparagus
Way too expensive. It’s not worth the money. The steak was terrible, all fat. I like their Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. Still too expensive
Everything was excellent, a bit pricey, but everything was perfect.
The food was average, especially for what it cost. The service was not impressive.
Very nice place!
I was hoping the quality of some of the food would be better. In particular I wasn’t a big fan of the ribeye steak and the agave chicken. My wife tried the ceviche and although the flavor was excellent some of the fish wasn’t marinated long enough in the lime juice and some pieces were uncooked.
My duck confit appetizer was the highlight for me when we ate there on consecutive nights.
Outstanding service and food. I had Surf and Turf and was so good.
This restaurant was convenient while staying at the hotel but I'm not sure we would return. With a reservation we were seated immediately, which was great. View was beautiful. Saw Sea World fireworks. But the food, ugh. Such limited entree choices at $35-$50 and nothing more presented onsite. I was going to get the chicken dinner and wedge salad but the server told me they were out of the wedge and the chicken was pretty basic. She couldn't recommend anything but the seafood bake. That wasn't encouraging. Hubby and I both ended up going with the swordfish,$35. It was good but forgettable. Literally just the meat a swipe of a spread and 3 small tomatoes. I asked if any salad at all could be served and I did appreciate a small green salad being made for me (greens, cucumber, tomatoes) The kids meals were best value. $10 and good size/taste.
I also told server it was my 40th and son's 10th birthday this week. She offered us one of 3 desserts. We went with the mousse, at $10. Wasn't sure if it was on the house or not with the way she presented the choices. Glad it was, because it was small and didn't taste like much more than a hunt's pudding cup.
To get a decent meal here you're looking at $34-50/pp plus extra $12-$15 for a salad, app and drink. So $100/pp. To be justifying that price I think there should be more choices or more appealing flavors. We shouldn't be settling. We were looking for a convenient yet semi-special birthday dinner after a day at the pool. This was not the best location for us. Unsettled with prices and options.
The staff was friendly and we did appreciate the warmers being placed right next to us.
Food was good and the service was so so, had to wait 35 minutes even with a reservation. Finally got seated and had another bigger table get drinks and bread twice before we received ours. Still not bad.
I ordered swordfish and all it came with was about 2 tablespoons of pureed parsnips and a few pistachios on top. There were no vegetables or anything else. The cost was $38. Not worth it in my opinion, even with the great views.
My husband and I tried dinner here even though the ratings was low. I had a swordfish and my husband ordered steak. The portion came out decent and the food was good. We were happy with our meal and the service was great. We will come back again.
The food was very good but a little pricey. The booth was comfortable and had nice view. The desserts are delicious and worth the prices.
It’s a nice place to go on a date or with friends. Very casual.
Amazing service, food; and ambiance. Had dinner around a fire pit and watched fireworks from Sea World. Amazing experience!
Very nice evening and meal!
The food we ordered was not great -especially for the price. Lack of flavoring made this a very forgettable meal. The ambiance is excellent and they were fine with little kids
Steak lacked on flavor. Not enough salt...all three of us agreed on this. Was not a fan of the horseradish sauce on top. Medium was cooked more like medium well. Lobster & scampi were a disappointment as not much lobster in dish. However flavor was good.
Sides were delicious. Sadly enjoyed those more than the main dish.
This was for a Birthday dinner for my Dad. The food was good, service was slow, and the drinks were okay. Overall not a bad experience but it can be improved.
The outdoor sitting was great.
We had a variety of items at our table. We had swordfish, asparagus, new york strip, Brussel sprouts, lobster & shrimp scampi and a wedge salad. All were excellent. Only thing was the syrup in their soda was off so water and lemon it was for us!
Food was just so-so.
Great food, great service, great view! Will suggest to friends.
Cant beat the view the service was better then the food - spinach had dirt and too much butter - bread had Walnuts and no warning (I am allergic)
Hidden gem of San Diego. Good food with on the water views and plenty of parking!
The food was good but far from great. The truffle Mac and cheese was very enjoyable. The service was fantastic and the patio area was good for ambulance. I would absolutely as the experience was enjoyable.
I cannot say enough about how fantastic the servers were across the board from the attendance, the busers/runners, the bar tenders and the servers. All incredibly nice and attentive.
Nice ambiance and lovely meal.. Loved sitting around the fire pit enjoying drinks and dinner. Very attentive staff and nice view of marina.
There was a group of people that took over the restaurant and staff couldn't get them to respect the other patrons. When we got there many people were waiting and it wasn't clear who was the hostess. They sat us down on wet seats that weren't ready yet. They let a woman inside with a dog that caused my husband's allergies to act up. The waitress and woman cleaning up were very kind but overall it was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant in a really long time. Food was ok except for the dessert smelled bad and was dense.
First time in this restaurant. Not very busy which was surprising. Good views of bay and sunset with the right table
Server was very good. A bit pricey for what we got.
Was good. Random waiter banged on the tables, ruined the environment
Great, great, great dining experience! We stayed at the Hyatt for my son’s birthday last year and dined at the Red Marlin. He liked it so much that he asked to come again this year. Frank was a wonderful server. The restaurant was accommodating of our nut allergies and the food was SO delicious! We really enjoyed our evening here.
Visiting from out of town and stayed at the hotel. Celebrating a big birthday. Called ahead and no cake available so had to order from local bakery. Chilly reception from hostess from the time we arrived to drop off cake a few minutes before reservation. Tried to give us a table for 10 even though we had 5 in our party (incl 2 small and well behaved kids), and we asked if we could get a table by a window at least. Did not give us kids menus, and we had to ask wait staff separately after 10 minutes of waiting at table with no water or kids menus or anything. Waitress was very warm and lovely and the highlight of the meal. Food was just ok but took a very very long time. Table behind us waited so long that one of their kids fell asleep and they had to leave and asked the food to be sent to their room. Nice space and close to our room but otherwise nothing to recommend it.
So good we went back for brunch the next day...
I ordered a 10 oz. NY Strip Steak with broccoli, mushrooms, and what I was lead to believe was some form of mashed potatoes. What I got was a tiny amount of baby food looking potato mush on the plate, seared broccoli, and then 2 strands of a long cut mushroom. This was all piled up on top of each other and crowned with my steak cut into three pieces on top of the mixture.
It's not my intent to be rude, but when a man orders a steak he expects it to be whole and not to be cut for him, when he sees potatoes on the menu he expects to see an actual serving of the starchy food, and when mushrooms are served with a steak he expects it to be on top or to the side, not hidden under the steak. The steak tasted fine and it was cooked to the right temperature, but in no way was I satisfied with the dish.
My wife ordered a salmon linguini dish and she said the noodles were hard and from my side of the table it looked like a soup. She said she thought the water they cooked the noodles in were in her bowl given the taste and the texture. Pasta is not supposed to be served as soup.
If I had not been on a weekend getaway I would have been much more assertive about these things while at the restaurant. The service was fine and the place was nice, but the food was not at all worth the time or money. We actually left there and went to Chick-Fi-La. The spicy chicken sandwich combo for under $8 was better than the upscale dinner I had just paid nearly $100 for at Red Marlin. If I had it to do again I would not waste the money.
The service was amazing, and the food as well, we got the soup and passion salad, they taste wow, then we had surf and turf, and the scallop, I wish if I took a picture of it, but I was busy eating and enjoying the view outside.
Great experience, worth to try it again.
Great food, excellent service and lovely view.
Beautiful presentation and delicious dishes. The views of the marina are amazing during the day or sunset. Highly recommended.
We had three breakfast at Red Marlin.
We used Open Table to schedule our reservations and each time we were seated immediately.
All personnel were friendly, prompt, and helpful.
Beautiful marina views
Red Marlin deserves more than a 3.5 overall score. Just because it’s a hotel restaurant doesn’t mean it can’t be good. Dinners are consistently well-executed and well-presented. Their breakfasts are creative and delicious. The room and outdoor seating are right on the Bay. The one thing I would ding them for is service. They seem perennially short-staffed. The good servers are gracious in spite of being overloaded. Others are abrupt almost to the point of rudeness.
We were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant the 1st night staying at the hotel. But, that was largely due to our having to be seated on the patio because the hotel had a private event taking up the entire indoor dining room. It was chilly and breezy, and there were not enough heat lamps for all the people sitting outside. We were not comfortable. And our food cooled off almost immediately upon being served. But, the food was OK and so we decided to give it a 2nd chance. Unfortunately, our dinners the next night (inside) were not good at all. We both had the Braised Lamb Cavatelli, which was a poor mixture of flavors. Very little lamb in the dish; and the lamb and pasta were served in a bowl, swimming in a soupy lemon confit. The lamb and lemon combination did not taste good to either of us at all. While our salmon, scallops , chicken and burger the night before were OK, they were not really worth the price. Unfortunately, we will have to go offsite, the next time we stay at this hotel.
The restaurant was not very busy on the morning we had breakfast, so we received a lot of quality attention from the helpful staff. Our server was especially in tune with our one-year old granddaughter making sure she had whatever could be provided (water, Cheerios, extra glass and plate) to ensure she was also having a positive experience. The food was tasty and reasonably priced in a dining room that takes full advantage of its views of the marina and Mission Bay!!
Awesome good! I appreciated the great care that the server and chef took with my Celiac dietary need. It was so nice to enjoy the meal!
