Great, great, great dining experience! We stayed at the Hyatt for my son’s birthday last year and dined at the Red Marlin. He liked it so much that he asked to come again this year. Frank was a wonderful server. The restaurant was accommodating of our nut allergies and the food was SO delicious! We really enjoyed our evening here.
Visiting from out of town and stayed at the hotel. Celebrating a big birthday. Called ahead and no cake available so had to order from local bakery. Chilly reception from hostess from the time we arrived to drop off cake a few minutes before reservation. Tried to give us a table for 10 even though we had 5 in our party (incl 2 small and well behaved kids), and we asked if we could get a table by a window at least. Did not give us kids menus, and we had to ask wait staff separately after 10 minutes of waiting at table with no water or kids menus or anything. Waitress was very warm and lovely and the highlight of the meal. Food was just ok but took a very very long time. Table behind us waited so long that one of their kids fell asleep and they had to leave and asked the food to be sent to their room. Nice space and close to our room but otherwise nothing to recommend it.
So good we went back for brunch the next day...
I ordered a 10 oz. NY Strip Steak with broccoli, mushrooms, and what I was lead to believe was some form of mashed potatoes. What I got was a tiny amount of baby food looking potato mush on the plate, seared broccoli, and then 2 strands of a long cut mushroom. This was all piled up on top of each other and crowned with my steak cut into three pieces on top of the mixture.
It's not my intent to be rude, but when a man orders a steak he expects it to be whole and not to be cut for him, when he sees potatoes on the menu he expects to see an actual serving of the starchy food, and when mushrooms are served with a steak he expects it to be on top or to the side, not hidden under the steak. The steak tasted fine and it was cooked to the right temperature, but in no way was I satisfied with the dish.
My wife ordered a salmon linguini dish and she said the noodles were hard and from my side of the table it looked like a soup. She said she thought the water they cooked the noodles in were in her bowl given the taste and the texture. Pasta is not supposed to be served as soup.
If I had not been on a weekend getaway I would have been much more assertive about these things while at the restaurant. The service was fine and the place was nice, but the food was not at all worth the time or money. We actually left there and went to Chick-Fi-La. The spicy chicken sandwich combo for under $8 was better than the upscale dinner I had just paid nearly $100 for at Red Marlin. If I had it to do again I would not waste the money.
The service was amazing, and the food as well, we got the soup and passion salad, they taste wow, then we had surf and turf, and the scallop, I wish if I took a picture of it, but I was busy eating and enjoying the view outside.
Great experience, worth to try it again.

Red Marlin deserves more than a 3.5 overall score. Just because it’s a hotel restaurant doesn’t mean it can’t be good. Dinners are consistently well-executed and well-presented. Their breakfasts are creative and delicious. The room and outdoor seating are right on the Bay. The one thing I would ding them for is service. They seem perennially short-staffed. The good servers are gracious in spite of being overloaded. Others are abrupt almost to the point of rudeness.
We were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant the 1st night staying at the hotel. But, that was largely due to our having to be seated on the patio because the hotel had a private event taking up the entire indoor dining room. It was chilly and breezy, and there were not enough heat lamps for all the people sitting outside. We were not comfortable. And our food cooled off almost immediately upon being served. But, the food was OK and so we decided to give it a 2nd chance. Unfortunately, our dinners the next night (inside) were not good at all. We both had the Braised Lamb Cavatelli, which was a poor mixture of flavors. Very little lamb in the dish; and the lamb and pasta were served in a bowl, swimming in a soupy lemon confit. The lamb and lemon combination did not taste good to either of us at all. While our salmon, scallops , chicken and burger the night before were OK, they were not really worth the price. Unfortunately, we will have to go offsite, the next time we stay at this hotel.
The restaurant was not very busy on the morning we had breakfast, so we received a lot of quality attention from the helpful staff. Our server was especially in tune with our one-year old granddaughter making sure she had whatever could be provided (water, Cheerios, extra glass and plate) to ensure she was also having a positive experience. The food was tasty and reasonably priced in a dining room that takes full advantage of its views of the marina and Mission Bay!!

They never made it feel special. I think they need to read the reservation notes correct.
We had a large group for lunch and the staff was amazing. The food delicious. Seriously the turkey BLT is the best I’ve ever had and please never change the pretzel bread it made the sandwich. The whole group loved their food choices and our waiter made sure our Tito’s cocktails were full! Great experience
Sat on the patio in the evening. Table got a little too dark when the sun set. Our food was good, our server made a great recommendation on the swordfish entree.
Food and service was excellent. Server Frank was perfectly attentive and very knowledgeable. We would love to return and dine there again!
My wife and I traveled to San Diego for a three-day anniversary getaway. Dined at the Red Marlin on the first evening. Seating was wide open on a Wednesday, so had a window table overlooking the marina. Our waiter was attentive but not overly so - very relaxing. Started with the crab cakes. Mostly crab and very little filler. A bit too much mayo for my taste, but very good overall. My wife had the seafood stew and I had the seared scallops as entree’s. The seafood in her stew was very good and plentiful. The scallops in her dish were a touch overdone, but still quite good. The broth was very tomato-y and might have benefited from a touch more spice. This was not cioppino, and we were told that at the start. So comparisons can’t be made. But there were many similarities and this held up well. My scallops were perfectly done, melt in your mouth wonderful. They were paired with a mushroom risotto and a brown butter sauce. Loved every morsel. No room for dessert, so no opinion there. Good service, good food, good view all for a good experience.
Food overpriced and average quality. Staff inexperienced. Only move thing is it's convenience to Hyatt.

The choice is just few. Hyatt is four stars hotel, I expect the food should amaze me. Not coming back again
Our waitress was friendly and had great recommendations for us that we truly enjoyed! The scallops and Creme Brule were excellent! The kids Mac n Cheese was large and yummy!
One of the greatest smoked salmon plates in the country when they are on point and this morning they were!Breakfast is the star here as ia the service I’ve been coming over a decade

The restaurant is in the Hyatt Regency which is a sprawling place. The views over the marina are really nice & we had a great waiter. Enjoyed having a relaxed dinner where we could talk without shouting and not a ton of screaming kids.
The first night we came I wasn’t that impressed. However, the second night was much better. The fish was delicious as well as the two appetizers we had. Brussel Sprouts and meatballs. The steak was so-so, but that may have been due to the fact that we asked them to prepare it in a more kid-friendly manner. Although a bit pricey, this was a great dinner.
The food was not as good as I expected. The chicken was dry and the fish was small portion. The kids buffet was pizza and pasta- no real protein. The cauliflower cakes were absolutely delicious, I will say that. However, overall it wasn’t the best food experience. Too expensive for what we received.
With the exception of the entree, the clam chowder appears to be from a can and not freshly made, the salad that was ordered tasted bitter and was missing several items that were described in the menu, like avocado and black beens.
Food is expensive and taste is not very good. Don’t expect big portions. Order your steak medium rare or medium otherwise it will be dry. Don’t order the scallops. You get 3 scallops over basmati. Basmati was very wet, no salt and bitter. We ordered a pork belly appetizer which was okay and only 3 bites. This place is going under I’d they don’t improve their portion size and menu. I really wonder who tasted the recipes and agreed to this. Not being mean just honest. I paid $150 and didn’t complain since it was a special occasion and didn’t want to put a damper on the night but goodness so disappointed in the food.

Staying at the resort. Arrived 15 minutes before reservation and the hostess told us we could sit at the bar, but the kitchen was very backed up. There were maybe 8 tables seated inside and 2 outside. Should have been a sign to go somewhere else.
For an appetizer we got a cheese plate and for $6 added “cured meats”. Be aware you will receive 2 slices of 3 different types of cured meat. Not worth $1 per slice.
Kitchen was still backed up and it seemed like forever to get our food. My wife’s scallops were nice and warm, but to the steak was slightly warm.
Having walked out spending over $130 with no alcohol, I can’t recommend this to anyone..
The food was cold. They had a buffet for the 4th and all the burners were out. The manager apologized but we left hungry
Horrible food service was worse.
They have some of the best food in San deigo but we have had bad experiences with children out of control. I am aware it’s the parents responsibility but most parents are on the phone and kids are running around and crazy. I suggest they make a separate section for families using the children’s buffet.
We will not go again on a weekend. Sad

Food is totally mediocre and expensive. The restaurant has a beautiful view, but there is no one there as the food is horrible and overpriced. Our waiter was good though.

Went for Mother’s Day brunch. Abysmal seafood and WAY overpriced. Go to Tom Hams Lighthouse instead.
