I could not be more upset with my experience at Red Gravy. When I had initially tried to make a reservation for my party, we were told to call given our large group size of nine people but no one ever answered the phone. We therefore settled for making two reservations, one for 5 people and one for 4. Upon making my reservation for four people, I had requested that we be seated closely to our other 5 friends. Red Gravy called to tell me that it would not be possible given their restaurant's set up and having not been there, I accepted the answer. However, on the day of our reservation, we showed up to a COMPLETELY empty restaurant - not a single other individual. Despite a completely empty restaurant aside from our group of nine, they REFUSED to seat us together - note that there are at least 10 tables in the restaurant that could easily sit 50 people in total and yet my group of nine had to be split in 2 and were seated at opposite ends of the restaurant (we couldn't even really see each other). After we requested once again to be seated together, we were rudely told that they had already called to inform us that they could not accommodate the request but gave no reason as to why that was though we were the only people there! And to top it all off, the food was completely mediocre. My 'Red Gravy special' was a bowl of overcooked spaghetti slathered in sauce that wasn't dreadful but was certainly not something I would order again. The waiter for one of the tables also repeatedly gave wrong information regarding the food (e.g. whether a dish was vegetarian or not), which entirely contradicted what the other waiter told us. And want to know the cherry on top? Their menu has a disclaimer about being a "positive environment" and signage around the restaurant about not being hateful/discriminatory - this was 100% the opposite of what my party faced while dining at this restaurant. I beg you, do not go here, do not support them, do not waste your money.
It's unfortunate that you didn't understand our seating/reservation policy as stated on our website and through opentable. We do not take parties larger than 6 due to the modest size of the kitchen. Making two reservations for your larger than 6 party and then asking to be sat together is really the same as making a large reservation, isn't it? All of my staff is completely well versed in the ingredients of all the dishes.
Quaint atmosphere, friendly and helpful wait staff. Went back the next day to try different items. Good meatballs and sauce.
I'm so happy you enjoyed your visits!! Our meatballs are a labor of love; and I'm so happy you enjoyed them. Thank you for coming in! (twice!!!!!)
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so happy you enjoyed your visit!
Great little breakfast spot! The food is excellent, and so is the service. We’ll definitely be back!
Thank you so much for coming in! The service staff is a wonderful group of people; I couldn't do any of this without their dedication and hard work. I'm so happy you enjoyed your visit!
Very expensive for the little amount of food we got. We just drank water and had two entrees and the bill was over $50 for breakfast!!! The waiter never checked back on us to see if the food was ok after delivering it. The pasta and sauce were outstanding but the chicken sausage was super spicy. I wanted it taken off our bill because I hadn’t eaten it but we were in a hurry to get to Jazzfest so we didn’t bother. Everything else was great! Cute place
Thank you for coming in!
We were at Red Gravy for breakfast and it was delicious. Be prepared and bring your appetite as the portions are past generous. Was a little disappointed that the adds-on, like grits for me and the red sauce for my husband's meatball (which was awesome!), were extra charges on the bill. But - the food was good and we will go back next time we are in New Orleans.
Thank you so much for coming in!!! True story...when I moved to New Orleans from NJ, my friends and family said 'maybe now we can lose some weight!'. Can't help it...I always make too much, they say! I'm so happy you enjoyed your meals!
Ordered a skillet pancake that was very dry and inedible. I asked to send it back and order something else in its place. The owner/manager/chef flat out refused. She said she made it as described and it was too bad. She went on to say it was our problem, she would not take it off the bill. This is the worst costumer experience I’ve encountered.
I never said 'too bad' nor did I say it was 'your problem', even after you called me ridiculous. You ate half of it before you asked for something else. Thank you for coming in.
A great little place with a relaxed atmosphere! Good selection of food that is delicious! Owner even came over to talk to us. Her wait staff was great!
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so happy you enjoyed your meal. I'll be sure the staff, who, I agree, are great, see your message!
So many great options on the menu! All hot & delicious. Excellent service.
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so happy you enjoyed your visit. I'll pass your kind words along to the staff, too.
My boyfriend and I have been making it a tradition to eat at Red Gravy every Easter (and he's one that usually likes to switch up where we go out to eat on holidays or special occasions). The food is always phenomenal and I'm in love with the interior of the place. Highly recommend - especially take a chance and get one of their cocktails.
I'm so happy that you have included Red Gravy as part of your Easter tradition! I can't thank you enough for your continued support!! It makes me smile that your like our decorations! For me, that is a particular labor of love. I love putting them up, hate taking them down!! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!
This was our second visit on this trip. This was for Easter Brunch. All menu items were available this time and everything was great. Breakfast or Brunch try the Breakfast spaghetti it is wonderful and do not forget to add a meatball. A real gem in the middle of the city.
Thank you so much for coming in, again!!!! We never run out of pasta, but from time to time, we do run out of one of the sauces. They take hours to simmer, particularly the breakfast spaghetti sauce. With just 4 burners on our stove top, it's hard to give one up, during service, to a simmering pot. I'm so happy we were finally able to get it to you!! I hope you had a nice holiday!
Wonderful Easter brunch, delicious food and great atmosphere!
Thank you for coming in!!
Breakfast for 2 with one of us having ONE mimosa was $65 US. For the quality of the food...you are better off food quality wise and price wise to eat at the Ruby Slipper.
Thank you for coming in.
Easter Brunch everything was very good.
Thank you so much for coming in!!
Thank you for coming in!!!
Love this place!
Thank you so much for coming in!
Quaint restaurant and excellent food. Highly recommend the meatball omelette and brioche french toast
Thank you so much for coming in!! I am so happy you enjoyed your meals!
Truly great food. There wasn't any chocolate croissants left so I settled for an almond croissant. Best decision I've made! Great food! Good people! Attentive!
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so happy you liked the almond croissant; those are my favorite, too!!
Love the atmosphere and the food was amazingly wonderful! Service was great, too! This was our 2nd visit and we’ll be going back on our next trip to NOLA!
Thank you so much for coming in TWICE!!! It's folks such as yourself that make all our efforts so worthwhile. I am so happy you enjoyed your visits!
Red Gravy is amazing. The food is fantastic and the service and atmosphere is wonderful.
Plenty to choose from and you never leave hungry. We visit the Red Gravy from Ohio every year when in town and this is a must stop for everyone.
Thank you so very much for your kind words and continued support!!!! It means the world to us!! Hope to see you again, soon. Travel safely!
Italian American parade
We were greeted and sat promptly by a smiling hostess. A friendly server checked in with us a minute later, took us through the menu and highlighted the newer menu items. My wife had the shrimp and grits. I had the breakfast spaghetti with a meatball. Both were well prepared and delicious. You could tell that they were both made with high quality ingredients by the taste and freshness. The chef/owner stopped by to see if we were pleased with our meal, which was thoughtful. She is a colorful character much like her restaurant which has a very down home relaxed feel. We look forward to dining hear again the next time we visit New Orleans.
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so happy you enjoyed your meals! A colorful character, indeed!! I am lucky enough to be surrounded with people that encourage that kind of happy behaviour. Thank you again for such kind words. I'll be sure to let the staff know about your comments.
Very delicious! We ended up going back the next day to get it again before we left back to Detroit. The Wattle & Snood was my favorite.
Thank you so much for coming in TWICE!! I know just how many other options diners have in New Orleans! The wattle and snood was a favourite special...and we all love just saying it!! Wattle and Snood!! Thank you so much!
Your app is terrible.
I wrote a nice review, this is my THIRD try!
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm sure you understand that Red Gravy has nothing to do with the OpenTable app. I'm simply a customer of their service, as yourself. However, I do thank you for being such a great sport about trying to leave us a good review!! I am so sorry you had trouble posting it through the OpenTable app. It's guests such as yourself that makes all our hard work so worthwhile! Thank you again!
Food was good. A little pricey, though. They were out of the gnocchi with eggs which is what I went for. I don’t like real sweet food for breakfast, some of their meals are extremely sweet!
Thank you for coming in! I make the gnocchi, myself. During Mardi Gras, unfortunately, I have to concentrate on being on the line for service. I simply don't have enough time to devote to certain projects. I'm sorry you didn't try either the bolognese, carbonara, sausage sugo or the polpetta omelet. Those items, like so many others on the menu are not even remotely close to being sweet. Hope you had a nice Mardi Gras.
I will never visit New Orleans without eating at Red Gravy. We’ve had brunch there the two years and both meals were equally divine. The combination of Italian food with breakfast is genius. We’ve been both times during Mardi Gras so they’ve had awesome specials to try such as Mac n cheese popover and king cake French toast. I don’t think you can possibly go wrong with anything on menu. You can even get a meatball, they are INCREDIBLE, on the side. Don’t leave New Orleans without eating breakfast here.
Thank you so much for your continues support, especially during Mardi Gras!! I'm so happy you enjoy coming in. The meatballs are nothing short of a labor of love. Hope you had a nice Mardi Gras!
I was excited to go here because they had gluten free options, but they charged an additional $5 to switch to a GF Pasta, which I think is obscene. I was happy with the food itself, but it was overpriced. I wouldn’t return to eat again because of pricing.
Thank you so much for coming in. Our gluten free pasta is fresh pasta, not your store bought, dry pasta. Between the cost of the almond flour, the overnight, refrigerated shipping, and the maintenance of the product, I don't believe the additional price is obscene, at all.
My wife made the choice to dine here based on reviews by TripAdvisor. Having the option to reserve a table using Open Table helped with the final decision. And we was glad we came. The food options were excellent, as we visited for breakfast. We had quite a memorable experience
Thank you so much for coming in!! I am so happy you enjoyed your visit.
Still trying to figure out how they've been rated as a top brunch. My omelette was good, not great, but it's sort of unfair to expect a "great" omelette (it is, after all, an omelette). Where I was most disappointed was in the item's "red gravy" -- it was just marinara. And maybe that's what it was supposed to be, but I was expecting something a little more fun and innovative being the restaurant's name sake.
I also wonder if my review would lean a little more positive if the service experience weren't so poor. The hostess seemed bored and perturbed. My waiter, despite being super amiable and friendly, was slow and it took about 10 whole minutes before I was even approached or offered water. And it's a small place, so it felt awkward.
The space itself was cute and quirky but didn't seem 100% clean. My germophobe husband would have likely asked us to leave before even giving the experience a chance.
I wish I would have gone for lunch and ordered the handmade noodles, that might have also swayed this review in a more positive direction. Maybe next time!
Thank you for coming in during Mardi Gras!! Red Gravy is marinara, precisely what it is called in New Orleans, nothing more, nothing less, not meant to be anything other than marinara. We are in our 9th year, having opened in 2010. The Department of Public Health visits us 3 times a year (as is normal for all restaurants in New Orleans). In all that time, I haven't ever received one single violation of any kind, ever. To suggest my establishment is not clean is simply untrue.
We were able to get a table for 5 at the last minute on Sunday for brunch! The food was amazing! Would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for coming in! I am so happy you enjoyed your meal!
Food was amazing. Unlike anything I've had in NOLA. Fresh and fabulous! The pasta is made in house and cooked to perfection! Our server was excellent and very attentive. We had made reservations but waited about 15 mins for a table (yet walk-ups were being seated). In the end, it was well worth that minor faux pas!
Thank you so much for coming in. I'm sorry there was a delay in being seated; we try very hard to have no wait time at all for reservations. I'll speak with our host about your delay. I am so happy you enjoyed your meals!
Don't miss the Best breakfast in NO! Very interesting food and drink offerings that are scrumptious and plentiful. Can't wait to eat here again.
Thank you so much for coming in!!! I am so pleased you enjoyed your meals!
Enjoyed this breakfast spot with a unique menu. Everything we ordered was fantastic, would recommend it and we will definitely be back. Four stars for service only because one person’s dish didn’t come out until about halfway through the meal. Otherwise we give it five stars.
The spaghetti and meatballs are the GREATEST in the universe! Red Gravy is the gold bar standard! Other menu items are also delicious - lots of creativity too like “The Godfather” sandwich. Meatball, egg, pepperoni and more. Great atmosphere and service on top of amazing food. Wish I lived here to go to Red Gravy more.
Excellent! We will definitely be coming back!
We had a great brunch at Red Gravy! The restaurant is small, so definitely make a reservation. The food was delicious and unique. Wait staff was so nice and helpful. We will definitely be returning to Red Gravy on our next trip to New Orleans!
Meeting a friend after almost 13 years of not seeing one another. The staff was wonderful and had delicious recommendations.
We are part time residents of New Orleans, and have eaten here several times. One of the best breakfast places in New Orleans.
Wow! The meatball omelet was amazing, as were the Parmesan grits! I wasn’t a big fan of Bloody Mary but lived their limited time Carnival Coctail!
