Chef/Owner Eric Brenner spent his first decade in the industry inside Italian kitchens. Talking up St. Louis' wide-ranging Italian eatery scene, which gets as specific as regional specialties, he says he's wanted to have a place like this since he was 18.
"We're going to start very simple and accessible," he says, "we'll play to the crowd and start a dialogue, then grow the menu with community input."
"Simple," includes dishes like his tomato bisque, with which only has five ingredients. "It's all about the perfect balance. And that gets back to the essence of good Italian food: quality ingredients, very few, in perfect balance." Other examples include his St. Louis-style, thin-crust pizza, best compared to a flat-bread.
Crispy Risotto Balls
Mozzarella Stuffed, Marinara Sauce
Beef, Parmesan, Bolognese Dipping Sauce
Meatballs, Tomato Cream Sauce, Provel Cheese, Oregano
Was tracing from out of town and meeting up with a friend who lives there, and we just decided to pick this location and it was a great choice!
Such a great time celebrating a birthday! We had a large party and the food was delicious. Drinks too!
Great tomato sauce showcased in risotto ball appetizer
Delicious fig pizza
First time dining here and it was better than expected. The service was great and the food is some of the best I have had. Cozy place and the staff made you feel like you were family. Highly recommend.
Diner downtown and the ability to eat out in the open bring some normalcy to these crazy times. Love the experience! Will definitely do this again!
We ate outside at one of the tables on Tejon. The atmosphere was great, weather was perfect (obviously out of anyone’s control, but it made it even better). My husband had a beer and I had a Blood Orange margarita that was delicious. Calamari appetizer was great, lightly breaded and the breading was crisp. My husband and son got spaghetti with meatballs and were both very pleased. My daughter got the carbonara and she loved it. I had the baked mostacchioli. It was very tasty. I think next time I would try something else, but no complaints about the dish. Service was good, and timely. Overall very nice evening out with fabulous food!
Excellent food, great service, perfect ambiance. Cute little brick Italian restaurant and did I mention how incredible the food was. We were all tasting each others food! I can't wait to go back and try more dishes.
Not very busy for a Sunday afternoon, outdoor seating was available which was good! The food was at the high end of adequate; ordered the lasagna and the alfredo. The alfredo was good kind of lacking in the flavors a bit bland but OK. I added chicken to it, this was more of a steamed or boiled vs grilled. The lasagna had a whole lot more flavor but was dry and crusty on the edges. OK honestly it was like leftovers no way was this fresh. The portions were good amounts on both. Added a salad that was very good. Would I go back, not sure I always give palaces a few tries but there are better in Colorado Springs, so not sure how soon I would be back.
Extremely disappointed with Red Gravy, Server was terrible. Felt like she didn’t want to be there. Never checked on us after food was delivered to table. Ordered Sunday Gravy, sausage was boiled, not grilled and dish was very bland. Husband ordered chicken fettuccine, extremely dry with little sauce. We paid way too much for bad food and poor service. Gave food to the homeless.
Creative cocktails were a great start to a wonderful meal. Staff was friendly and safe. All precautions observed. Nothing detracted from a lovely, delicious meal.
This is my go-to place for GOURMET Italian. The entrees are soooooo good. I had the Carbonara and loved its many flavors and textures. For the dessert do not miss the Blueberry gooey cake.
Had a greatm.j time celebrating bybdaughters 39th.
This place was amazing! Seriously the best Italian food I’ve ever had.
We were on vacation and starving it took forever for our food to come then it came and it was not good
The best Veal Marsala I have ever had. The lasagna was also excellent as was the calamari caesar salad.
Birthday was not acknowledged
Service a little slow, but understandable as tables were outside in the street further from servicecareas
This place is super chill, can count on having a good meal and the staff is wonderful. I would recommend this place to any of my friends or family for sure!
The food was delicious. The service was very slow and sub par.
I’ve always loved this place. Never had a bad dish other than a lil more than fresh bread every now and then. But their food is excellent. Definitely one of our go to places
Amazing food! Good service. Really nice atmosphere.
Fast and friendly service; tasty food; nice lunch portions.
Amazing food for the price, will definitely be back to try other dishes.
Great Italian food, best Toasted Ravioli in town. Friendly staff, exceptional entrees, appetizers, desserts, all made in house . If you have not been you need to try it.
Let me start by saying I never leave bad reviews but I’m honestly really disappointed. I’ve wanted to try Red Gravy for a long time and the experience was less than ideal. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy but our waitress took way too long to come to our table each time. Everyone ran out of drinks and she was no where to be found. We had to go to the bar to get refills. The food was good but when we were all very clearly done with dinner our waitress took 30-45 mins to come ask if we wanted checks. Then another 20 mins to come get the cards for us to pay for dinner. Not an ideal situation when your friends have a brand new baby....
Food was great. Loved that we could sit outside. Would return.
Great place for Italian cuisine. Good food with great prices!
Our dinner was delicious!! The server was kind and checked on us in a timely manner.
Sat outside due to COVID, but was great vibe. Delicious food and Aperol Spritz was on point. Highly recommend Red Gravy.
My husband is high-risk, so we loved the option to dine outside during this COVID bit. The only reason marks weren't higher for ambience and noise level is that we were IN THE STREET on Tejon. Even with that, it was an absolutely enjoyable evening--late enough that the sun was behind the building and we didn't get rained on. But the real winner of the evening was the food. OHMYGOODNESS. It was perfection. Neither my husband nor I have eaten like this for some time. We started with two appetizers, and he had the stroganoff while I had the chicken saltimbaca. Service was great and with a smile (under the mask). Overall, we had a wonderful time and are so glad that Red Gravy is doing the outside dining!
It was a much-needed respite to have dinner out and among other diners. We were having a quiet birthday celebration and the Red Gravy was a perfect place. The food was fabulous. And the celebratory dessert was divine (flourless chocolate torte). We are planning on eating here again, soon.
Food was delicious. Service was outstanding. Will definitely be returning when we visit Colorado Springs.
The food is always delicious, service was great! One of my favorites!
This is a great spot to eat. The service was great and everything was timely and delicious!
Fantastic Italian food! We came here for a family dinner while on vacation and were delighted - some of the best food we’ve enjoyed this summer! The risotto balls and cheese garlic bread were both flavourful and fresh and the pizzas were well made. Desserts were great - the butter cake was a particular favourite. Service was a little slow but the staff were pleasant and helpful!
Everything was delicious. Fantastic Eggplant Parm. Tender and not greasy.
This place never disappoints. Casual atmosphere with great food, wine & beer. Fun downtown location.
Red Gravy never disappoints! I love that it’s a little bit of home for us! T Ravs are amazing!
Read a lot of positive reviews. Decided to give this place a try. It’s very marginal. Food is greasy. Returned the carbonera that was slathered in Alfredo sauce and replaced with greasy Lasagna that wasn’t any better. Husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs that were just ok. $80.00 later disappointed and wishing I just stayed home. Save your money or go to a franchise like Maggianos at least the food will be better than meh for the same price.
The website menus show brunch and many menu items that the restaurant no longer offers. They should update their menu information. False advertising currently about brunch.
Great food...it was super packed so service was pretty slow but everyone was working hard and helpful.
Fantastic lasagne & spaghetti & meatballs!! Scrumptious! Neat atmosphere dining on the street with social distancing!
