Chef/Owner Eric Brenner spent his first decade in the industry inside Italian kitchens. Talking up St. Louis' wide-ranging Italian eatery scene, which gets as specific as regional specialties, he says he's wanted to have a place like this since he was 18.
"We're going to start very simple and accessible," he says, "we'll play to the crowd and start a dialogue, then grow the menu with community input."
"Simple," includes dishes like his tomato bisque, with which only has five ingredients. "It's all about the perfect balance. And that gets back to the essence of good Italian food: quality ingredients, very few, in perfect balance." Other examples include his St. Louis-style, thin-crust pizza, best compared to a flat-bread.

I am so utterly confused. NO IDEA how this place has such glowing reviews. High hopes going into the meal, but every dish was a letdown. The toasted ravioli was burnt and dry with virtually no filling, bolognese tasted more like a salsa, bland Caesar salad with wilted lettuce and dressing that had no semblance to an actual Caesar (I highly doubt it contained any real anchovy), and the most pitiful bowl of “made to order” Alfredo that tasted like movie theater butter and cream (zero garlic or parmesan flavor). Everything seemed store-bought and was served lukewarm. Such a lackluster, mediocre meal. Hate to say it, but Stouffer’s in the freezer aisle could give this place a run for its money. So disappointing!

Our server, Jessica, did a very nice job of keeping our table manicured and water bottles delivered to our table. The best part of our meal was the brussel sprouts appetizer and I was thrilled when my Chicken Piccata was delivered with the same side. I had sub'd the potato for asparagus and it was so salty it was inedible. Our guest's Chicken Marsala with gluten free pasta was pronounced the best meal at the table...even over the veal scallopini which was tougher than expected. We would have stayed for dessert except the dining room was so loud (NOT energetic. LOUD) I understand that the chef is revered as someone delivering a St. Louis twist on Italian cuisine....but it was not our "cup of tea".

We had a reservation for 8 during lunch hours on a weekday. They were not crazy busy and our table was ready and waiting. The food was very good (a couple of things were outstanding: risotto balls, butternut squash soup, and the fettuccini alfredo - just so yummy. They were a little understaffed for the number of diners so the lunch took almost 3 hours but the service was excellent considering! They were very accommodating to a celiac family member as well. Highly recommend.

It is difficult to find good Italian food in Colorado. This is one of the rare few. The Eggplant Parmigiana ws excellent. Good flavor in the eggplant and the breading. Tender and juicy. The angel hair pasta was perfectly cooked; which is difficult to do and requires care and patience. The last time I had good Veal Marsala was in Marsala, Sicily. I think this was a little bit better. Service was impeccable, without being rushed or intrusive. I do recommend reservations. Even on a Wednesday evening, it was very busy.

Wonderful selection of appetizers (we recommend Fried Ravioli) and delicious entree's that will leave you satisfied but still wanting more. It's probably not ok to lick the plate when you are done, but you will want to. Definitely get a Southern Old Fashioned if you like traditional Old Fashioneds, this one is as smooth as butter.

Food was excellent but the wait was long, especially with two young children. Also, the absence of any kid friendly foods made it hard. The gourmet grilled cheese was not to their liking, although the adults thought it was outstanding!

Good vibe, good food. Very busy on a rainy Friday night. Service was a little slow due to the busyness, but it's ok, have a drink and chill out. They make the best Linguine with clams here, garlicky and lots of real clams, instead of just clam pieces from a can like in some other restaurants.

We sat by the window, which this night was a bit cool. But the evening was very nice. Our appetizer was amazing - Briased meatballs. Then we shared campanelle stroganoff. Good also but not as special as the appetizer. I don't know that I would order it again - but the meatballs were amazing. Our bread was great, but no offer of a second serving was given. I would prefer a whipped butter and butter knife over the individual butters that were given. Our waitstaff was excellent. We did wander back to the live music and enjoyed that as well. Overall a very nice evening.

After begging seated our server didn’t come see if for awhile, where never asked if we wanted another drink. We asked for bread and they never brought it. The chicken Alfredo was not good. The dessert was the best thing. Not impressed overall. Wont go back.

Explored the menu and decided to try Bucatini Amatriciana. Amazing flavors with chili spice. Caprese surprised us with ripe tomatoes and delightful sweet and tangy dressing on Argula. Pizza New York style with thin crispy crust. Lasagna met expectations with rich sauce.

Excellent food and staff. My eggplant parm was great! They think of everything to make your dinner wonderful. I appreciate being served French bread with butter that is room temp and spreadable! It's the little thing that put the dinner over the top.

Went to Red Gravy for the second time - food was (again) delicious. They have a wide variety of choices - generally what you would expect from an Italian restaurant. I had the salmon piccata - which you can also get with chicken or veal. Highly recommend that crispy risotto balls as an appetizer, or the brussels sprouts. Decent selection of cocktails as well. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but there's plenty in the blocks surrounding the restaurant. Download the ParkMobile app to make it very easy...

Went for friend’s birthday. Ambiance is nice, not fancy or fussy but very comfortable. Server was very friendly but not annoyingly so, which was nice. She was very attentive and stayed on top of drink refills. They have a ton of GF options for pasta and bread and it was delicious(my friend had me try her GF cheesy bread). I can’t have cream so I had the linguine with clams, garlic, butter, and wine sauce. It was SO delicious. Would order again. The blueberry butter cake was to die for.

It's been my second visit to Red Gravy after first one 4 years ago. That first one was exceptional with nicely dressed staff and excellent service. This second visit was nothing like that - super casual staff, loud space, dry salmon... It would have been ok for $45 ticket, not for $88.
