My husband and I came here for a romantic evening and were not disappointed. We shared the calamari appetizer, he ordered the pork chop and added grits, and I had lobster tail and filet mignon. The food was excellent. Service was great. Price is as expected but well worth it. The venue itself is a bit noisy, but we were seated at a table instead of a booth, which I'm sure would make a difference. Overall it was an incredible dining experience. Highly recommend for a date or special occasion.
Our favorite island restaurant exceeded our expectations! We dined there on Valentine's Day not really because of the holiday but because we so enjoy the John Bracken Trio which plays there Wednesdays. You would expect something to be lacking when out on a holiday but not here. The food, service, everything was somehow the best ever. This is a place you can go and never be disappointed. I had the scallops and lobster mac n cheese, my husband had the strip steak. Yum!
This restaurant was expensive and pretentious. They say they have a 'notable wine list' - but that is untrue.
The portion sizes are minuscule and not very noteworthy - not fine dining for sure.
Plates come immediately and are whisked before you even finish your meal!!!! I felt like they were trying to get us out of there. Servers are rude.
Not a place I would recommend or come back to.
Four of us had an early dinner here while we were visiting Hilton Head. We all ordered off the early bird menu. It was a great value and included soup or salad and a glass of wine. My husband loved the shrimp and grits, but noted it definitely needed more spice. I had the salmon which was just ok. It was well cooked but very bland, as were the vegetables and mashed potatoes. The salads were very basic. For any early bird special it wasn’t the best meal we’ve had. Everything needed seasoning.
We had a very nice dinner here. My wife needs to eat gluten-free. Our server was knowledgeable of what on the menu was allowable for my wife, and if she was uncertain, she checked with the chef, rather then making a decision on her own. The food was well delicious and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We have been on Hilton Head Island for a week, and our dinner at Red Fish was by far the best.
Red Fish is my wife's favorite restaurant and the food is always excellent. The service is normally very good, but there are occasions when they get more patrons than they can handle quickly. The atmosphere in the bar area is very nice. The main dining room is not inviting and they don't seem to use it much. Prices are very comparable to top in restaurants in D.C., Atlanta and other cities, so if you're looking for a good meal at a good price Red Fish is not for you. If cost isn't a concern then you do get your money's worth.
All six of us chose off the Restaurant week menu. We had an awesome dinner last year at this time.
My duck & date appetizer was delicious. But the duck main entry was just not very flavorful. The chocolate torte w gelato was delightful.
Our friend said the scallops were perfect!
The 3 men all ordered the barramundi - it came chopped up in a bowl. They said it was mediocre.
One guest had the flank steak and said it was okay.
Was not our typical great food night at Red Fish. So all but one of us were disappointed.
Waitress was fantastic. Menu for early restaurant week was nice. My barramundi was fabulous. Scallops were okay but not what we have become accustomed to at Red Fish. Desserts and great coffee capped a nice meal.
Overall a wonderful night for our son’s birthday.
Met up with friends in Hilton Head to celebrate New Years Eve together. Red Fish was the choice for dinner and it was a great selection. Food was superb, wait service excellent and no one pressured us to leave, so it was thoroughly relaxing.
A little noisy, but not deafening. Would highly recommend.
We were seated at 7:17 pm and at 7:30 no one had yet to approach our table. This is considered to be an upscale dining experience and we are so disappointed. We left.
It is truly not forgivable to be ignored. I used to train servers and 30 seconds was the standard to make contact with your table and suggest a cocktail, or to ask for an extra minute to serve hot food or cash out a check.
We are not sure we will return.
Had looked forward to a nostalgic birthday celebration as we had dined here several times in the past. Very disappointed in the service - table not set with adequate settings; sat at a table with no lighting at all; server got daughter’s entree order wrong and she had to wait for her entree to arrive. No effort was made to compensate for the error whatsoever and server cavalier about the mistake. Food was decent but not worth the exorbitant prices. Truly disappointing and will never return.
This restaurant was ok. We should have requested a table in the front room which was like a wine cellar. The atmosphere was much more appealing than where we sat in the side room. Food was just okay - nothing all that noteworthy. Service was slow which seems to be common down here in lowcountry. What I thought was most odd was that there was a table in the center of tye room that was just behind our table that seemed to function as a bussing table - there were empty beer bottles and used plates sitting on it and that’s what I looked at during the course of our meal. Overall this place was disappointing and I would not return. I did enjoy the Christmas music they were playing.
Have eaten here many times. This time was really enjoyable. The food, service and music was all excellent. They were only seating people in the bar area which was a wise decision as the crowd was small and having everyone in the same room created a nice buzz and made for a fun atmosphere.
