Originally opened in 2008 as both a Peruvian and Cantonese restaurant, owner and culinary director Darren Wan decided to reconceptualize the already successful restaurant in 2010 into the chic, upscale and exclusively Cantonese format that it is today.

Too bad they lost their liquor license- food is pretty good. Get the duck sliders. Casual, a bit too quiet, feels like it needs some of the atmosphere that comes with drinking!

Food was great, but restaurant does not currently have a liquor license, because of the normal process following a change of ownership. We would like to have known that when we booked on Open Table.

This is a very pretty restaurant. During the day, one can walk right by it as it looks closed. Inside, there are pretty red and yellow large balloon-like lamps. Food was good and well-prepared. Service was very good. It was $1-2. more than other Chinese restaurants in the area, but had a more calming and selective feel to it.

This place had NO record of my reservation.
It was no problem because the place had 2 tables with customers. Not a good sign.
The food on the plates I saw did not appear to be very fresh and neither did our food when it came to the table
Poor service with no customers too!
You gotta be kidding me.
I give them 6 more months tops

Food was good although only found out they were awaiting their liquor license once we got there so no wine/cocktails etc. disappointing as we were hoping for a cocktail or two to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Wanted to love this place but it was just okay. The Dim Sum starters were the best part of the meal. Would probably go back for Dim Sum.
We were there for Chinese New Year so not sure if the quality of the food is reflective of a normal business day as they were very busy.

Our review may not be valid, since we attended on Lunar New Year and the staff and kitchen was clearly unable to handle the volume. However, I think that we can speak to the quality of the kitchen, if they can not prepare the dim sum in a correct manner. The soup dumplings were quite frankly the worst we have ever had. All the food was underseasoned. The management was aware of our displeasure and did try to accomodate us by taking the cost of the soup dumplings and the "duck wonton soup" (which came with shrimp wontons and no duck) off the menu. Go to Jing Fong for dim sum.

Decent dim sum selection with more westernised ambience. Service was great, staff was attentive. Liked the ability to have dim sum wo the madness of more traditional Chinatown dim sum restaurants. Great for bring friends and large groups, with the ability to make a reservation on open table. Bar is a big plus. A bit high prices, but paying for overall ambience as well - worth it I think depending on what you are in the mood for. Friend and I had a good time and while satisfying our dim sum craving. Interested in coming back for perhaps dinner with larger group of friends for sure.

Place has been around for a while but always seems to reinvent itself. Amazing food and service make the ultimate experience one that takes us back time after time.

If you want authentic Chinese food this is the place to go. Great value for the price and if you like chicken feet this is the place to go

Overall it was a good restaurant. We were in the mood for Dim Sum at night and they delivered. I was pretty disappointed that there was no bar. When you are searching and you see images as a result of searching many have a lovely bar. Those pictures are not from this place. The service was okay but not so great. They don't check in enough and there was a little bit of an language problem. So ordering was a little harder than it should have been. Overall the food was good and the selection was good so we were happy. If they had an awesome bar I would give it at least 4 stars overall.

The foods are average compare to traditional dim sum place. The seats are not that comfortable. The table is way too small to fit all the dim sum you order. The Coconut pudding was outstanding.

Pretty basic local chinese fare. We expected something a little more special, but the menu was pretty typical. The Peking Duck sliders were good, as was the fish filet Szechuan style. I reccomend them

This is not the Red Egg we remember from 6 years ago. The lights were bright (before it was dark), the benches of the booths were outright shabby, and there is no alcohol at all. That was a surprise. But we ate some Dim Sum, and that was good.

We missed our original reservation on Sunday night 4 December because our plane was late. Instead we went incognito on Wednesday 7 December.

I am in town on business so did a solo dinner which is nice as it allows for adventurous eating. I tried the spicy beef tendon - I can at least tell my kids that I tried it. Good flavor and spice just a texture that is an acquired taste.
The dumplings, steamed buns and potstickers were all hot and delicious.
I will bring my lady fair on my next trip to the city.

The Dim Sum lunch menu had both excellent dishes and very bad ones. Excellent: steamed shrimp dumplings and steamed chicken shumai. Bad: Rice noodles & porc (almost no porc...). Inedible: baby veal chops (75% fat, and the 25% meat part tasted old/spoiled) and I think it was these that gave one of us an upset stomach for the rest of the day.

The service was generally good though a bit rushed.

Was there for thanksgiving Saturday friendly get together brunch. It was not crowded which was nice for chatting without having to yell at each other. Almost everything we ordered was delicious. The young wait staff who waited our table the later half of the meal was very good but at first it was hard to get the female waiter's attention to order food. The hostess wasn't very friendly but maybe if was just her ton of voice.

Very weird vibe here. Seems like the restaurant was on its last legs. Some of the portions are small but food was decent. How come they lost their liquor license? Staff seemed pretty stressed out. Restaurant looks like it was once really nice but has not been kept up at all.

After reading some of the recent reviews on how run down RE had become, I hesitated booking. I'm glad I went through with it, the service and food were as I remembered it and the condition of the restaurant was fine. I saw a patched spot on the banquette but, no tears or ripped vinyl. The service was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. Red Egg will definitely stay on my go to list for dimsum in Chinatown.

Really good food but sub-par/snooty service! Our waitress seemed like she did not want to be there and was rude to all tables she served. No liquor license and that info needs to be available on Open Table prior to booking.

Place also needs a good clean. Dust and cobwebs everywhere.
