Red Circle Inn & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
This is our 'go to' special occasion restaurant. The bistro/bar is warm and welcoming, and the restaurant side is quiet and romantic. The chef is amazing; however, the sauce on the grouper special was salty on this occasion. The filet has never let me down. I love that they have traditional favorites such as beef Wellington and creme brulee, but also take risks with spicy fare and non-traditional items on their specials menu. We live in the area, but this place is worth a drive to Lake Country.
Consistently a special dining experience. A menu that offers seafood to meat to small plates and bistro dining in the bar. Libations always to taste. A wine list to satisfy any palate. Your meal is paced well. Service is friendly with great attention to details . One of our top five favorites.
4 of us had an very nice dinner here. All the meals were excellent . We ordered the Beef Wellington, Duck Montmorrency and the fresh Whitefish fillet. The food was prepared perfectly. The entrees came with whipped potatoes and fresh vegetables. All meals came with soup or salad which were excellent as well.
The ambiance is very nice and service was very good but not intrusive. Prices are moderate $28-39 for the entrees we tried.
Red Circle Inn touts itself as Wisconsin's oldest restaurant. We had a nightly special (blackened grouper) and the lobster. Both were excellent -- the whole lobster in particular was a very good value at $44. For dessert we had a chocolate souffle, a rare find on a restaurant menu.
Service was excellent, but for some reason the waitstaff seemed determined to seat us near the kitchen in a dining room full of vacant tables. We finally prevailed on another table, but we later noticed staff once again steering diners to the table near the kitchen. There was live jazz duo in the bar, which competed with recorded music playing in the dining room. Finally, the dining room was a little cool -- maybe the table near the kitchen got some reflected warmth.
Such a treat to have incredible food and off the charts service. Both of us were celebrating our birthdays and we were treated like royalty. The Cesear salad was terrific and the Whitefish outstanding. They treated us to a souffle. Neither of us had ever had one before and at our age..... We wanted to lick the plate, it was that good. Highly recommend!
Red Circle Inn is a wonderful blend of classic upscale dining and casual elegance. We enjoyed every moment from fabulous wine, tasty salads, wonderfully prepped entrees, and decadent desserts. Katherine our server was professional and warm without going overboard. If you haven’t been here lately, you’re missing out. It was awesome!
My husband and I went to have a date night/celebrate my birthday. I had not been there before. It is now one of my favorite restaurants! Everything was amazing! The waitress was great! The food was wonderful! Everything we had was delicious! We will be back! I recommend this to all.
The Red Circle Inn is a gem situated in the heart of lake country area. Great spot for quiet conversation with friends. We enjoyed drinks at the bar before being seated at our table in front of the fireplace (great on a cold night in Wisconsin). We enjoyed the oyster's rockefeller appetizer (which could've been a meal in itself). Everything we ordered was better than the we expected, Osso Bucco (2), Beef Wellington & the steak of the night New York Strip was all done to perfection. I had Veal Osso Bucco & I can say without hesitation it was outstanding piece of meat I have had in a long, long time! It came with the best bussels sprouts I have ever had & real mashed potsatoes. All 4 of us brought left overs home.
Definitely worth the price you pay. Although I would'nt be able to eat that way every week, it's a wonderful date night or gathering place to enjoy great friends & great food.
And leave room for the Grand Manier soufflé, you'll be glad you did!
We were seated on time. Dining area well lit. Waitress had a great attitude and explained the menu, wine list and specials well. Every course was served on time without being rushed. All food was perfect, except that the roasted duck dish was a tad on the dry side. Wine was specially priced and my wife's souffle was gratis as it was her birthday. Overall we had a wonderful dinner.
This was aperfct choice for a birthday dinner... the beef Wellington was fabulous.. the grouper, was good although not their best ... sticking to the menu is a sure thing ... and of course the soufflés! They are outstanding! This is one of the few restaurants that I know that serves them. Our waitress was Sissy, and she was fabulous .
We live in the Twin Cities and only visit the Milwaukee area once a year. Last year we stumbled on the Red Circle by accident. This year we made a point of returning. This restaurant is a gem. The ambience is great and the food and the service are even better. We only wish that we had such a restaurant near us. This time we enjoyed Oysters Rockefeller and a Duck entree but are sure that anything we selected from the menu would have been equally good. The server was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. 5 stars for sure
Went on a Saturday evening with friends. It has been some time since we dined at the Red Circle and we were very pleased that we went back again. Excellent service and great food. We were seated promptly for our reservation and enjoyed our time there. Two of us had the duck and two had the beef wellington. Entrees, salads and soups were excellent.
Food was awesome! We had appetizers, salad, soup, main course, dessert and after dinner drinks. Waited 15 minutes for cocktails upon being seated only to be told the bottle of wine featured on the NYE menu was not available. Ordered a glass of red with my dinner and it never came. Aside for some mediocre service, this place is one of our favorites! Downtown dining with the small town charm!
Service (Hostess & Server) was slow. It took OVER 10 minutes to sit at our table because we were trapped in the coat as the Hostess was moving very slow. It was cold and cramped in there. Then it took the server OVER 10 minutes to to get us our drinks. My New York Strip was not good at all. The fat was chewy and it was not seasoned good. For a meal that costed us $150.00 it was horrible! Next time we will go the 7 seas!
Food and service was outstanding. One of few restaurants that allows you to enjoy drinks and appetizers at the bar and transfer your bill to your table. My only complaint is when seated for dinner out there was very little space between us and other diners. We could easily hear their conversations and vice-versa.
Meal was okay, but they have a separate menu in their bar that had more appealing dinners on it.
We were not made aware that you can’t get those items in the main dining room.
Service was good till end when she took orders from two tables of six before running our cc.
Finally asked another server to do it for her.
I have dined at Red Circle Inn a few times for special occasions but not for several years. This return visit was a great experience and I should not allow so long to pass before going back. Food was excellent especially pan roasted white fish fillet. In fact everything that we selected was remarkable from the crab cakes and manhattan clam chowder to the special menu item, St Peter's fish (although the white fish was even better).
A draft from the dining room doorway was annoying due to where I was seated. The dining room is quiet and trying to ignore conversation at the next table was a small difficulty.
Service was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive. Dinner was served at a perfect pace. We really enjoyed the three-wine flight just to have a little variety at an economic price.
The Inn has a very fine reputation and our experience totally matched that.
Bistro area is quite small. We arrived a little earlier than our reserved time, were seated at last table available, which was one of the small two seat tables. Candle, flower vase and wine list took up extra space on top of table so don't feel you really need them. But, having said the previous, the FOOD WAS FANTASTIC!!!!! Cannot say enough about the flavor. Not being big eaters anymore, the size of the plates were just perfect for us. Will definitely go again and enjoy!
