Excellent meal.
Everything was awesome. Service was impeccable
Attentive service and quality food. A very nice dining experience.
Gracious staff, accomodating, patient, diligent. Creative menu, fresh, local, healthy, ingredients.
Quality of the food just wasn't the same as previous experiences.
Red Cat is one of our neighborhood faves. A friend wanted to take us out to celebrate our upcoming wedding. My fiance and I are on the Whole30 diet, so I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about eating here - it's a foodie place with very rich ingredients. But the waiter was accommodating to make sure our food was dairy/butter free with no added sugars. Great place and can't wait to come back when we're not on any dietary restrictions!
I chose this restaurant for an evening out with my husband, because I read reviews about it being good for a romantic date.
We had a reservation at 6 pm. The restaurant was not busy at that time, still we were not allowed to sit at one of the nice tables in the front. The hostess ( who was not nice and welcoming, as a hostess is supposed to be), did not give us any explanation as of why we could not sit at one of the open tables in the front of the restaurant, she gave us a table in the back, where it is was a totally different ambience.
The waitress was OK, she just forgot to give us bread and olive oil, or maybe they just give it to you if you ask for it ? Anyway, we asked for it because the tables around us had it.
As for the food, we had octopus for appetizer, then skate special and pork shank for entrees. All three dishes were greasy, heavy and the main ingredient was overpowered by the elements in the side dish (it seems they like to use a lot of bacon ). The fish was overcooked.
Over all, it was not what we expected and would not recommend it.
The service and food are top-notch. The spring pea soup was heaven, hen of the woods so meaty and delicious, and the duck breast was cooked perfectly with just the perfect complementing flavors.
Would recommend the Red Cat for any night of the week and special occasions; it is that good. Comfortable enough for every day and attentive enough for special events.
Some things are very good.
My girlfriend and I have been going for years. Viramo our waiter who has served us before is very knowledgeable about the menu, wines and cocktails. The menu changes for the seasons and the food is always delicious. The food will satisfy everyone's palate. The Tempura Green Beans which are a must have with cocktails. The Red Cat is a must try!!!
Red Cat is the perfect spot for great food and a casual neighborhood-feel atmosphere. The staff is always on top of things and could not be friendlier. A nyc favorite for sure!
Best meal I've had in a long time. Fresh, innovative without being too 'trendy' or too adventurous. Hen in the Woods mushrooms- WOW! what a great side dish. Service was polite, friendly and just the right amount of attention.
Excellent restaurant. Food and service were outstanding.
This was our second visit to Red Cat. We chose it because it was convenient to where we were, and that part of Chelsea is deficient in decent restaurants. Also, it has some charm, and the back room is comfortable for conversation. Rated strictly on food quality, it is only average. We were promptly seated at a table in the quieter back room. Service was friendly and efficient. We started with the brussel sprouts salad (decent) and octopus (good). For main courses, we had the duck and mushroom ristotto (tiny portion with hardly any duck and not very good) and chicken (average taste and somewhat dry). We found a nice bottle of burgundy at a fair price from Red Cat's interesting wine list. The cheesecake dessert was quite good. It cost us $90 pp, including tip which would have been totally fair if the food were a little better. We don't expect to return, hoping that Chelsea in the far west 20's starts developing some fine dining options to go with its growing population.
I don't remember Red Cat being this boring. A midweek lunch was disappointing despite very helpful service. Nothing was terrible but nothing was very good, either. Pulled pork carnitas were attractively presented but had very little taste. Toffee pudding was slightly dry and the accompanying ice cream, which I think was supposed to be egg nog, tasted like vanilla. I chose the restaurant to suit other people's location, but I'll search harder in the future.
Impeccable service and delicious fresh offerings made me realize how this place manages to stay relevant in such a quickly ever changing restaurant scene.
From the smiling host at the door our visit was GREAT! We went for Easter brunch. The food was fresh and hot off of the stove or out of the oven. Our waitress was extremely kind. We order the foie gras & duck confit - so good! I had the baked eggs. My husband had the 2 eggs sunny with lamb sausage. The bread was delicious; crusty and soft inside! We ended with their homemade cinnamon buns. OMG! A great restaurant find. I will return!
From beginning to end was a nice experience. The hostess was friendly, our waitress was helpful and attentive. The bartender did a good job with the drinks and the food was great. Our only regret was we couldn’t try everything on the menu in one visit. We did have; duck hash with poached egg. Baked eggs with spinach, another egg potato as cheese dish, the Nutella and banana bread toast and the Georgian flat bread. No leftovers, it was all good.
Simply the most excellent food!
A great meal in a hip, urban setting. Didn’t enjoy the rose custard (for dessert) but the rest of the meal was amazing!
Red Cat never disappoints. We have been coming here (on and off) for years and both the food and service are always top notch. The host is always welcoming. It's a real NY restaurant.
Red Cat has very friendly and welcoming maitre'd staff, talented and very nice bartenders and wait staff and the ability to offer delicious food in an atmosphere full of terrific hospitality!
One of my favorite places. Interesting menu, great food and ambiance. My husband had the skate and I had liver(you may not understand) and both were transporting.
Always great !
A very enjoyable time at this restaurant. The food was both delicious and plated in a way that was pleasing to the eye. The service was extremely attentive from beginning to end. Our server was friendly as well as funny which made for a pleasant atmosphere. The chef came out to make sure out meals were done to our liking and I let her know that it was wonderful all the way around. The dessert menu was pleasant as well and the coffee I ordered was perfect in every way. Special thanks to our server for suggesting the house-made ginger ale (since I only drink soft beverages). It was excellent with a flavor that set it apart from others I've had over the years.
Highly recommended and an establishment I would not hesitate to revisit.
Still top notch after all these years! Waitress knew her stuff - her answers spot on as born out when we ate our selections. Radish appetizer perfect - light and crunchy. Liver fantastic, steak melted in your mouth. Both cooked as requested. She knew her craft beers and recommended one right for our taste. White wine a bit warm but she had no problem accommodating our request to serve it colder. Wish it was closer to the neighborhood I live in, but will definitely return again and again when at HighLine, Joyce Theater or gallery hopping.
Everything was excellent
Every meal here has been a delightful and delicious experience! A varied menu offers something for all, great cocktails and an extensive wine list. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and they don't rush you through the meal to turn the table. Very cozy and welcoming environment. One of my top and favorite restaurants!
Very pleasant location and very good food. Excellent vodka and wonderful imaginative service. I love coming here because it is a lot of fun, people are friendly and it is full of life. Close to the highline so possible to exercise first or after eating the delicious food.
So impressively run. Food is great and they somehow after all these years keep amazingly happy and attentive staff. A rarity in NYC...
Always a great dining experience here. Friendly and knowledgeable service and overall excellent food and wine. On this evening I had the best duck breast I've eaten in a long time. My only suggestion is to try to get a table in the back away from the bar, which can get a bit noisy.
WE've been here maybe 5 times in the past year. Its always excellent. Duck beats is awesome. For he dessert pistachio semi-credo is off the charts.
I hadn’t eaten at Red Cat for a number of years (location ) and was thrilled to eat here again . The warm and knowledgeable service, beyond excellent food, comfortable and grown-up atmosphere will bring me back a lot more often now
Was a wonderful birthday celebration!!
The standout does not disappoint . . . even under pressure.
Just love the consistency of the food and the top notch A++ service !
I ABSOLUTELY love The Red Cat. I was taken here for my Birthday and I can truly say everything was delectable. We ordered the grilled escarole (appetizer), shrimp tacos, chicken pilliard and herb fries (entrees) and chocolate semifredo (dessert). Our server Sarah was wonderful and her recommendations was on point. I was not disappointed. Definitely returning at my earliest convenience.
A delightful experience. The skate, foie gras, onion tart, string beans and pork shank are worth coming for. Service was fantastic – attentive and professional but not over whelming. Pistachio torte is a must have.
Very good food. Limited veg options. Very Small portions
Wonderful wait staff and mattresses d. Friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Delicious, high quality brunch food. A lovely dining experience.
