Red Bird Restaurant severs eclectic local cuisine with flair. Red Bird Restaurant is opened for intimate evening dining in dramatic architectural surroundings with an art nouveau feel. The Restaurant strives for sustainability and serves local meats, handmade pastas, sustainable fresh seafood & delectable desserts. Our menus change frequently to reflect the wide variety of seasonal foods available regionally. The Wine Bar has over 25 wines by the glass and an extensive representation of Northwest Wines. The Wine bar offers enticing appetizers, fresh salads, artisan sandwiches and petite entrees. Monday night is live music night in the Wine Bar. We are located in the historic Florence Hotel Building which is on the corner of Higgins and Front Street. There is parking on Higgins and Front Street with a parking garage on Main street which is half a block away.

I thought the decor was beautiful. The food was definitely wonderful. I felt the restaurant was too brightly lit to be considered romantic. The can lights on ceiling detracted from the ambient chandelier and sconces and negated the candle light. I would turn the can lights off and then the beautiful chandelier and candlelight would really shine. Just my humble opinion. Thought the food was outstanding and service was top notch.
This was our first visit to the Red Bird and over all I was not disappointed. The beet salad was tasty but I probably wouldn't order it again. The bison sirloin was tasty but more on the rare side as opposed to the medium I had ordered. The potatoes were nothing spectacular and my husband's albacore was not as presentable as it should have been. Wilted kale should not be served with anything. The tomato and potato soup was to absolutely die for and is worth the experience alone. The service was excellent and the ambiance was very nice and relaxing. The dessert and coffee were delicious.
I love the Red Bird wine bar but this was the first time I had eaten in the dining room. The waitress was superb. Very friendly, helpful and great service. The food was lovely. The wine was perfect! The ambience is very nice. Beautifully decorated. Quiet so you can have a conversation. I was very impressed.
I love this restaurant. It has a romantic atmosphere. The food presentation was exquisite. For a starter we had the beet salad, the flavor combination was amazing. I had the Chicken Marsala which was one of the best entrees I'be had in awhile. It's a great place to eat. I can't wait until my next visit.
We went to Red Bird for our 4th anniversary because we had gone for our first anniversary three years prior and had a great experience. The ambience and environment were nice. Our waiter was friendly enough but didn't make any attempts at talking with us or inquiring about our special occasion. The menu options were quite bland compared to the last time we were there, and nothing sounded all that appetizing. We decided to order the cheese platter, only to find out that they were out of the cheese, so we could only get the meats. The meat platter was not incredibly exciting and we only enjoyed 1 out of the 3 meats. I ended up ordering the chicken Marsala, which was bland and unexciting. My partner ordered the steak, which was good but nothing special. Overall we were bummed to pay $100 for a meal that neither of us really liked.
This was absolutely disappointing.
Our waitress had NO charisma.
They were out of menu items, out of the wine we wanted. Then, the waitress suggested something "cheaper" (her words)
Stale bread, crappy bread with very average fondue.
Over salted food.
Garish interior with NO windows.
We indicated it was a special birthday when we made the reso. We also told the waitress. She could not have cared less. No free dessert, no enthusiasm at all.
$280 for six of us.
I will never return to this restaurant, and I will NEVER recommend it to anyone.
Took us 5 minutes of standing at the entrance before someone noticed and seated us. We then waited 15 minutes with no server and finally asked the first employee that walked by if he could help us. He was very friendly and gave us a free appetizer for our wait. Food was great but came out a little cold. Overall this is a great restaurant but someone obviously dropped the ball or they were having an off day. Will go back.
We arrived a little early but still had to wait over 20 min past our pre-made reservation time. This wouldn't have been too bad except that the bartender didn't seem overly excited to serve us a couple glasses of wine while we waited in the lobby. Seems the bartender was from CA and was talking to a couple visiting from there so breaking the conversation to get service was difficult and was eventually done by the CA guests at the bar pointing out to the bartender that we were probably wanting service.
Our hostess was fairly friendly but seemed overly talkative with everyone but us. We noticed that as she seated other guests around us she was very interested in them...asking where they were from, if they were having a good time, if she could take their coats...we never had this courtesy.
Our server, Carl, seemed like we were really wasting his time and putting him out. Not friendly. Our meals took some time to get to us. Each course seemed to be drawn out a bit too long especially when we ordered dessert. We ordered one to share and asked for coffee to come with it. We noticed with everyone around us that had been seated after us getting very prompt service and each plate service in a timely manner. We got to the point where we were checking our watches...not a good sign. There was never a check back to let us know that it could be a few minutes, never asked if we wanted to order more wine or a beer. When our dessert was finally plopped down in front of us we didn't get our coffee and we never saw Carl again in order to even ask for it again until he came with the check. At that point we were just ready to go.
We visit the restaurant a few times a year and our meals are always delicious, but this time both of our meals were not what we have come to expect. I had the beef special and the potatoes were tough and dry and my husband had the lamb dish and said that the cauliflower was also dry and not very flavorful.
The service was great as always and we really enjoy the atmosphere.
Redbird always has superb food and good service. There was a very loud gentleman a couple tables over who could be heard throughout the restaurant though. The acoustics aren't great for that, and I don't believe anyone on staff ever said anything to the gentleman.
We had a lovely dinner at Red Bird prior to going to a concert at the Wilma. We sat in the dining room. The atmosphere is relaxing and quiet with funky decor. The food was excellent with reasonable prices. Location is ideal for an evening out on the town in MIssoula.
No wonder this restaurant has a great reputation. We finally got to eat here. Excellent all the way around. We appreciated the quiet, comfortable ambience. The food was extraordinary. And I can't stop thinking about the delicious fondue! Hope we get a chance to dine here again soon.
We always enjoy our meals and experience at The Red Bird. Love that many of the ingredients are local and what they do with those ingredients is always delicious. I feel special and pampered when I eat here. Good for a casual meal with friends in the bar or a special romantic dinner in the main dining area. We will be back!
Very nice ambience, and comfortable atmosphere, yet elegant. Very retro motif, but not too tacky. Food was most excellent, with incredible flavor and texture. The server had great suggestions and the price was a pleasant surprise! Recommend for any special date.
Four very different meals, 2 desserts and a beautifully fresh gazpacho...all excellent. Vegetables were farm fresh and perfectly prepared. Bison tenderloin was outstanding, as were the lamb and the sirloin steak. My wife is vegetarian and had many delicious options. The wine list is nice and the markups on bottles were very reasonable. Will definitely return next time we are in Missoula.
One of the most inventive, delicious meals we've had. In the old Florence Hotel which has been lovingly redone and appears to be Arte Deco. We started with the scallop appetizer which was perhaps the best combination of flavors and presentation we've ever had. We also had the beet salad which was mixed greens, lightly dressed with a "nest" of crispy, hair like beets on top. They were a little salty and greatly added to the salad. I had bison and it was very good. My wife had salmon which replaced the Halibut and lived it too. We finished with beignets with a rhubarb puree and they were awesome too. You have to love any restaurant who has Merry Edwards pinot noir on their wine list. Service was excellent. A great and leisurely evening.
Missoula was our entry and exit point for a week long trip to Glacier. We had such a great meal on the Saturday of our arrival that we ended our week at Red Bird the following Friday. The staff is engaged, the menu appealing and flavorful and the wine and beer list ... fantastic!
Looking forward to our next trip!
Our meal at Red Bird is one of the best meals I have had, every course was delicious and well crafted. The menu highlighted lovely seasonal and local food items. The service was great and they were able to accommodate my dietary restriction (little to no cow-dairy). The space was uniqur and perfect for a date night.

Our hostess was great, I wish she had been our server... extremely personable.
Our server apologetically admitted that the specials that night were too detailed to remember so she laid the specials menu card down on the table and had us read it. She also couldn't offer any insight into the bubbly we were curious about but was very quick to get us a sample. I appreciated that effort.
We ordered the charcuterie app and it was fun to eat. The mustardo really punched it up for a classic appetizer plate. Our entrees were well executed and so fresh and beautiful with the edible flower garnish. I had the halibut but it was last minute changed to King Salmon due to being out of the halibut and my date had the chicken special.
Overall, very yummy but we didn't have knowledgeable or engaged service.
