Everything was great, the service was amazing. We will be back soon.
Group if six. Sat in the back and we we loud and laughing. Good food good times.
Soda should always be included in buffet price and not extra. Don't think a 15% gratuity shouldn't be added to the bill. After all, it's a buffet, customer's serve themselves
Went there because the reviews were very good. Top 10 buffet in the country !! WOW.
Had to try it.
The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant.
The food...some items were very good, some were just OK.
Items I liked: Pork Cutlet, Vegetable rice, Flan, Ham Hock, brisket, sausage.
Other items were just average.... like the chicken noodle soup, schnitzel, lamb, chicken wing, potato pancake, pierogies, most pastries, etc.
It was a good experience, but I enjoyed some salad bars much better at half the price.
Food was authentic. Good. Service was good. Cash only!!!
Found this restaurant through the open table app. Disappointed when the price for the buffet wasn't listed anywhere. (Should have asked!). It was $24 per person which seemed a little high. When it was time to check out, at first unwilling to take credit card. Said they only accept cash. Told them OpenTable said they took credit cards. The lady then wanted to charge a $1 service fee. Told her it was out first time there and she waived the fee. Not sure I would return. Wasn't worth the amount of money paid and the check out lady was rude.
There were 4 of us and we really enjoyed the food. Good, wholesome and fattening.
Good Polish food, just like Grandma used to make. This is a buffet restaurant but the buffet has many options to choose from. Establishment itself is not fancy and finding a place to park was difficult.
This is a tremendous buffet of traditional Polish food, stuffed cabbage, pierogis, pork schnitzel, beef, chicken, mushroom gravy, dumplings, pickles, beets. Very reasonable prices, not fine dining by any stretch, but good home-cooked food like you might make yourself, only better. I was delighted. Terrific value, it will be one of my regulars. A real treat.
Very good quality food for a buffet, and a great price! For $20, there were lots of choices, and the meat was really good quality. There were things I didn't expect to find at a buffet, such as lamb and duck. They had some really good standard Polish dishes, such as pork cutlets, mashed and boiled potatoes and beets. Desserts were not strong, but you're going there for the meat and potatoes, right?
Excellent! Eat there! You know its good Polish food when the only customers there speak Polish!
The wait staff was very nice, but not over bearing. Food selections were outstanding. Nice to know that they only take cash. First time customers are in for a surprise! Should be noted somewhere to avoid embarrassment.
Whenever we are in the Chicago area, going to Red Apple is a must. The selection, food quality and customer service is why I highly recommend this hidden treasure!
abundant buffet with fresh as well as hot foods - I enjoyed the variety and will go back sometime in the future
Since I am involved in a university course studying the history of Chicago including the arrival of the Polish immigrants to this neighborhood, I chose to try the Red Apple for its traditional Polish fare and to experience a little of the local culture. The food did not disappoint, but the perogies kept disappearing - need to go quickly to the buffet to get them before they are gone. The Red Apple is a great value, but a little awkward since only cash is accepted. Service was attentive and friendly.
The variety and quality of the food at the Big Red Apple all-you-can-eat buffet is amazing. Lots of Polish specialties. Beautiful salads. Fill your plate as often as you like, but be sure to leave room for dessert! Cash only, but there's an ATM right in the restaurant.
We made reservations for ten via open table. Our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. We had two more people join us group and they very happily added a chair at either end of the row of tables to accommodate us. They did however have our table so close to the table behind us (also a large group) that the chairs only move out about 10-12 inches. The table behind us could not move because they had no room behind them, so we moved the tables closer to the booths. Everyone could get in and out but it left a very small isle way. Also, it did not occur to me in this day and age to check if the restaurant accepted credit cards, they do not. They have an ATM, it only charges $1 fee (plus what your bank charges) but has a $200 limit. So I had to do two ATM transactions to pay the bill. The food is very reasonably priced, I would have preferred to pay an extra $1 per plate to have the convenience of using my credit card. Since I would need to bring cash or pay ATM fees and cannot get points on my credit card for the meal, I will not be going here again. If you do not mind the cash only policy, there is a large selection of food and most of it is pretty good. The price is great. The buffet for 12 people plus drinks (mostly soda but a few beers and I believe 1 mixed drink) was about $360 after tax and tip (15%).
Fresh pierogi, blintzes, potato pancakes, kielbasa, and cabbage rolls were some of the highlights. On top of that, there were salads and desserts. Fresh food was being brought out all the time. Can't wait to go back!
The Red Apple Buffet was rated as one of the top buffets in America so we decided to give it a try. Actually it was a much smaller buffet than was reported in the rating. It had a two sided hot buffet, a one sided salad bar, and a small dessert bar. The food is Polish. We were not super impressed, but if you like good eastern European food, this might be a place for you to try.
We booked the table for 3 for Christmas Eve 6pm. At 4:30 we got a phone message that they would be closing at 4pm so we had to make other plans. The Open Table website accepted my reservation and confirmed it so I don't know where the problem was. However I have eaten at The Red Apple numerous times and although it didn't work out for this particular time, I still feel that it serves excellent food for great value and I don't hesitate to recommend it. This "kink" needs to be worked out though.
All of the food was delicious. Excellent service and the price was right!
The amount of food that is available is phenomenal. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. This is by far one of our favorite Polish restaurants.
Several people had recommended the Red Apple Buffet to me in the past, and I was finally able to go there during a trip to Chicago last week. I grew up in the Chicago area (Hammond, IN) and am very familiar with the great ethnic foods there. I was not disappointed. The variety of great Polish food was wonderful. Lots of choices. Everything I had was delicious. They had me at the appetizer table when I found ham salad, pea salad and pate'. The entrees were all very good. I had not had cabbage rolls in years. My server was also very attentive. She realized right away that it was my first time there, so she patiently explained everything I needed to know. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a taste for good homemade food. Just remember that they only take cash, but there is an ATM on the premises.
By far, the BEST polish food restaurant in Chicago!! Food is homemade, abundant, fresh, and delicious!! There is a fabulous variety - you won't be able to try one of everything. They have all of the traditional dishes along with carved meats.
It was really good. The good is homemade and authentic.
This being a buffet restaurant, we were all able to select what we preferred. The choices were varied and very good. Especially the potato pancakes. Excellent! And the mushroom soup was also very good. The wait staff was very attentive and very pleasant. We've been there before and we'll go there again.
A delicious buffet of Poliish food. The potato pancakes and pierogi are outstanding as is most of what is offered . The deserts, however, are fair but that is not why you go. Will be back fo more.
if you are in the mood for tasty, traditional polish food then Red Apple Buffet is recommended. The buffet features a good, but modest selection of quality foods.
The plus was salads, appetizers, fish/cheese items. Negative was most meats were overcooked.
The food was delicious, the wait staff was excellent. Made our birthday celebration one to remember.
I found the restaurant to be full and the waitress happy to see us. This is 1 P.M. in the afternoon.
Something for everyone. typical Polish fare.
Maybe an explanation to those coming for a first time.
Parking is not even not even tolerable.
Best buffet! Food is nicely presented, hot and refreshed before the trays get even close to empty. Lots of things to pick from, salads, meats, different styles of potatoes. This is my second time there, and we came with another couple that enjoyed it as well.
Please note that this is a CASH ONLY restaurant!! They DO NOT accept checks or credit cards. The Buffet is "all you can eat" so it's great if you've got kids. A good variety of mostly Polish food-some seafood- and plenty of it! The buffet is well stocked as the employees often bring out more food. Family atmosphere. Small parking lot and street parking.
We always have a wonderful time at Red Apple. The food is just like Grandma used to make and there's plenty of it. They have a nice bar if you'd like a cocktail with your dinner, and the service is great. But the FOOD is the main reason we go. It's just outstanding.
If you're looking for solid Polish food and friendly service this is the place for you. Great variety/quantity of Polish food and desserts. There's even a salad bar. The dinner buffet is only $15and includes coffee. You will not go away hungry. Wine selection is very limited, a decent selection of beers.
A great way to experience Polish food.
Had been looking forward to having good Polish food and from the reviews and ratings posted on the website, I thought we were going to have some. The menu looked so enticing and varied and held such promise but in the end the place did not deliver. I know there are good Polish buffets in the city but for this one to be rated #1 is unbelievable.
Enjoyed the buffet, great variety and restaurant was very clean. Make sure you bring cash, no credit cards accepted. Cookies looked delicious, not enough room to try them.
I had heard and read many good reviews. But the restaurant was over crowded and I had my Mom with me in a wheelchair, no room between tables to maneuver anything easily. I had called and even checked the website to make sure there would vegetarian options on the buffet and the things they said would be on the buffet were not on the buffet so my friend had barely anything to eat and it cost $24.99!!!! I don't even think they knew I had a reservation except I called to check on something else and doubled checked and they did not seem to realize I even had a reservation so I told them I did one online thru Open table and they made it work. so overall not impressed and will be going back.
I had not been to a buffet type restaurant for a long time. It seems that you are expected to "pig out" when you go to one of these places, and I can't do that. But I enjoyed Red Apple. The food reminds me of home - and it was quality food. I ate what I wanted, and not more. The price was reasonable and for lunch, the place wasn't too busy. I will definitively bring my family for a nice comfort food meal. The service too was attentive. Dishes were cleared quickly, and the whole staff was professional and friendly. Even though it was "cash only", they took my credit card, as a first timer at the restaurant, and unaware of this policy.
Good food at a reasonable price served by friendly staff in a clean setting.
