Soda should always be included in buffet price and not extra. Don't think a 15% gratuity shouldn't be added to the bill. After all, it's a buffet, customer's serve themselves
Went there because the reviews were very good. Top 10 buffet in the country !! WOW.
Had to try it.
The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant.
The food...some items were very good, some were just OK.
Items I liked: Pork Cutlet, Vegetable rice, Flan, Ham Hock, brisket, sausage.
Other items were just average.... like the chicken noodle soup, schnitzel, lamb, chicken wing, potato pancake, pierogies, most pastries, etc.
It was a good experience, but I enjoyed some salad bars much better at half the price.
Food was authentic. Good. Service was good. Cash only!!!
Found this restaurant through the open table app. Disappointed when the price for the buffet wasn't listed anywhere. (Should have asked!). It was $24 per person which seemed a little high. When it was time to check out, at first unwilling to take credit card. Said they only accept cash. Told them OpenTable said they took credit cards. The lady then wanted to charge a $1 service fee. Told her it was out first time there and she waived the fee. Not sure I would return. Wasn't worth the amount of money paid and the check out lady was rude.
There were 4 of us and we really enjoyed the food. Good, wholesome and fattening.
Good Polish food, just like Grandma used to make. This is a buffet restaurant but the buffet has many options to choose from. Establishment itself is not fancy and finding a place to park was difficult.
This is a tremendous buffet of traditional Polish food, stuffed cabbage, pierogis, pork schnitzel, beef, chicken, mushroom gravy, dumplings, pickles, beets. Very reasonable prices, not fine dining by any stretch, but good home-cooked food like you might make yourself, only better. I was delighted. Terrific value, it will be one of my regulars. A real treat.
Very good quality food for a buffet, and a great price! For $20, there were lots of choices, and the meat was really good quality. There were things I didn't expect to find at a buffet, such as lamb and duck. They had some really good standard Polish dishes, such as pork cutlets, mashed and boiled potatoes and beets. Desserts were not strong, but you're going there for the meat and potatoes, right?
Excellent! Eat there! You know its good Polish food when the only customers there speak Polish!
The wait staff was very nice, but not over bearing. Food selections were outstanding. Nice to know that they only take cash. First time customers are in for a surprise! Should be noted somewhere to avoid embarrassment.
Whenever we are in the Chicago area, going to Red Apple is a must. The selection, food quality and customer service is why I highly recommend this hidden treasure!
abundant buffet with fresh as well as hot foods - I enjoyed the variety and will go back sometime in the future
Since I am involved in a university course studying the history of Chicago including the arrival of the Polish immigrants to this neighborhood, I chose to try the Red Apple for its traditional Polish fare and to experience a little of the local culture. The food did not disappoint, but the perogies kept disappearing - need to go quickly to the buffet to get them before they are gone. The Red Apple is a great value, but a little awkward since only cash is accepted. Service was attentive and friendly.
The variety and quality of the food at the Big Red Apple all-you-can-eat buffet is amazing. Lots of Polish specialties. Beautiful salads. Fill your plate as often as you like, but be sure to leave room for dessert! Cash only, but there's an ATM right in the restaurant.
We made reservations for ten via open table. Our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. We had two more people join us group and they very happily added a chair at either end of the row of tables to accommodate us. They did however have our table so close to the table behind us (also a large group) that the chairs only move out about 10-12 inches. The table behind us could not move because they had no room behind them, so we moved the tables closer to the booths. Everyone could get in and out but it left a very small isle way. Also, it did not occur to me in this day and age to check if the restaurant accepted credit cards, they do not. They have an ATM, it only charges $1 fee (plus what your bank charges) but has a $200 limit. So I had to do two ATM transactions to pay the bill. The food is very reasonably priced, I would have preferred to pay an extra $1 per plate to have the convenience of using my credit card. Since I would need to bring cash or pay ATM fees and cannot get points on my credit card for the meal, I will not be going here again. If you do not mind the cash only policy, there is a large selection of food and most of it is pretty good. The price is great. The buffet for 12 people plus drinks (mostly soda but a few beers and I believe 1 mixed drink) was about $360 after tax and tip (15%).
