Loud, fun and lots of good Eastern European food. Great mix.
Great selection of food, primarily with a Polish/European traditional slant. Couldn’t possibly eat everything I’d like to, so mixed favorites with with new tastes.
Made a reservation, but it didn’t seem to matter to the lady who greeted us; this wasn’t an issue this time, but I could see it so under the right circumstances.
A little taken aback by the note in the window stating “CASH ONLY”. (Helpfully, there is an ATM with a flat $1 charge; we had enough cash to cover already.)
I wouldn’t make any buffet a regular habit, but if I were to plan a get together this would be on the short list.
Ate at both locations. Exactly what we are missing in Madison, Wisconsin.
Classic polish buffet. Really good at that. Got everything you need to eat yourself into oblivion.
Delicious food, only high in prize, specially for 11 year old daughter if mine whom paid same as adult,so comming with 2 children cost me fortune😦
Excellent food, attentive staff, good atmosphere..
Great food. Great Service. The only improvement would be to have ALL the chairs and booths in the dining room to be like the fat padded(seats and back) ones that are at one of the big tables. Booths were very uncomfortable at which to sit.
It's polish food
Most of the guests are polish Ukrainians Russians
You get full even before you taste a third of items
Salads, entrees deserts
Great variety for people who like this type of food
And a very good value
Good Staff. It was for a birthday party. They had pastries but no birthday cake. Cant even special order it.
We have dined at the Red Apple on Milwaukee north of Devon numerous times and have enjoyed everything we had. This location was beyond disappointing. They have less choices and much of the food looked like it sat out too long.even the chicken soup was bland.
I've eaten at both Red Apple Buffets and they both are awesome. Great Polish food, many choices.
The food was very tasty - some great polish standards here! So many options it was hard to try everything! The outside looks a bit weird since it shares an entry with a laundrymat but the interior is very nice with copper ceilings!
Although they technically do accept credit cards, they seem to only do this for a large table. They made an exception for our group of 5. This information should be more clearly stated up front so you can bring enough cash.
Food was excellent, and we'll worth the price. Very authentic menu. Will go back next time in Chicago area.
GOOD FOOD!GREAT SERVICE!I WILL RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE SOMETHING SPECIAL.
It was delicious food!Best greetings to the Mrs.Cook.Thanks.
Out of the way to go to.
We came here for Mother's Day. The restaurant was half seated so you would think the food would be full, not so. We had to ask several times for more beef to be sliced because the first two times we asked we were ignored. This place specializes in buffet food, I cannot believe how empty so many items were, and they were not busy. I can honestly say we all were disappointed which is a shame as it was such a special occassion. The staff seemed flustered which I cannot understand as they were not busy. We waited 15 minutes for coffee and drinks. We will not be returning and would not recommend this place. Please, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
We went to this buffet because we read about it and it was on the list of top 10 buffets in USA. What a joke! Not worth money at all $20 per adult and they actually charged $8.99 for our 2 year old daughter. The food was nothing special at all, and I am easter European so I know the food. Would never ever go back and would never recommend to anyone
The food was very bland with no taste at all. it was my first time eating polish food and did not like it at all. I read about it on the internet as being one of the 10 best all-you-can-eat buffet. I don't think so.
I visited Chicago for vacation. I had heard about the Red Apple on a blog site of the best buffets in America, so we decided to give it a try during our trip. It's a bit off the beaten path for the tourist, but we were easily able to reach the restaurant by bus. The food was great, with some interesting items such as pork in aspic and tripe stew if you're feeling adventurous. The strawberry peirogis were the highlight of the meal. Great Polish beer on tap was also served. It's a good thing we weren't driving. For desert, I highly recommend the coffee meringue. It was divine!
Chicago is a hot bed of diversity and one must not forget the Poles. After Mexican, Chinese, and French, it was time for this legendary buffet. We were early so were asked to wait for a few minutes after being seated, but were offered soup in the meantime, a delicious mushroom soup! Then we jumped into a incredible spread ranging from beef to duck to pierogi to potato pancakes to blinzes, to stuffed cabbage, to tongue, to sausages, to any number of sauced dishes, to fish, fruit, desserts and...This is hearty fare to put it mildly, but we tried as many things as we could. The food was flavorful and fresh; one could only wish for more room so as to eat more. The decor is simple and homey--this is not a grand place----and the staff is uniformly welcoming. This is food that I would imagine one's Polish grandmother would make, laced with butter and love.
Upon arrival I questioned the ambiance of the place, rather small and boring. I knew that coming in, my main focus was the food. As I walked along the buffet, I was amazed at the selection of authentic Polish foods. After tasting what appeared to be everything, I did not regret a single thing. The food was fresh, and flavorful. My only disappointment was the dessert bar, but then again; they are not known for their dessert.
Was expecting more polish type of food. The place needs a remodel. Carpet not what they should be for a food establishment.
The food was EXCELLENT, very friendly staff. My mom is down the street so it was very convenient for us.
The restaurant was clean and well lit, the staff was very friendly. The selection of Polish food was wonderful - kielbasa with onions, pierogis, tripe, real mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, ham, tenderloin, pork tenderloin, apple pancakes, potato pancakes, cheese blintzes, and the list goes on. They also had a great selection of fresh cut fruit and salads. I really liked that the food was served hot in small trays rather than large trays that sit out for awhile. They refill the trays regularly with fresh made food. In the age of trendy new farm to table fancy cocktail restaurants, it is great to come back to a low key authentic place like that that is affordable, easy to eat, and delicious! Great for kids as well!
My husband and I met some friends here based on the Chicago's Best episode in which Red Apple was featured. We were not disappointed! The food was amazing! Very fresh and full of flavor. I even tried the beef tongue (which I swore I would never eat!) and it was delicious! The highlight were the Potato Pancakes. These potato pancakes were so good you didn't really miss apple sauce or sour cream that were absent from the buffet. Other 'must try' offerings are the schnitzel, the chicken and the duck. If you have any room left, the desserts are not to be missed!
Just one note is that they do not accept credit cards, so bring cash or you will be directed to the nearest ATM. :-)
What a gem! Fresh and authentic!
We has a group of about 40, half were children, and we all enjoyed the food. The selection was incredible, and even the most picky kids found food they could enjoy on the buffet. Wish I had a bigger stomach to sample all the options.
Very generous budget - things you usually do not find.
Family friendly restaurant that serves good Polish food plus a selection of other foods. Good pricing for a decent buffet.
Good Polish food. Choose carefully from the buffet. Some is great, some just so-so, but great selection. Nice, friendly home-style service.
Typical buffet type food, except polish
Good buffet if you've never had polish food and want to give it a try. Terrible service - the waitress didn't bring our drinks until we had finished our first plate. The restaurant is hard to find and the sign upon entering says they accept credit cards, but the fine print says they are accepted at the ATM with an additional surcharge.
There is so much wonderful food here, at a very reasonable price... I will have to go back to try what I couldn't possibly fit in during my last visit. Pizza with Polish sausage (Sunday special!), cucumber salad, cabbage salad, sauerkraut salad, Golumpki, Cheese Blintzes with fruit compote, polish sausage, roast duck, potato pancakes, dumplings, potato and onion pierogi, and that's just what I managed to try! There were also several chicken dishes, carved roast beef and ham, a few fish choices, and beet salad, among others. There is a full range of dessert options, including hand-dipped ice cream, cheesecake, and assorted pastries. I highly recommend the Coffee Meringue!
Love this place. Elaborate Polish buffet. Inexpensive good food. Friendly and good service. If you like Polish food, you have to try this place. Very clean.
I've been going to Red Apple for over 25 years, starting when I was in high school and visiting Chicago annually with my dad. I've come here when I was in college; I've brought friends over; and it's been fun to bring my sons here, too! So lots of memories for me at this place, but the food has always been really homey, authentic and, like any true Polish dining experience, all you can eat! I love this place!
