Red & White Wine Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I love this buffet. The best of any in town on selection. You can actually eat healthy here for a buffet. A little overpriced for value. My biggest complaint is the desserts and coffee. Some of us don’t drink alcohol and if you are going to charge me $5.00 for a cup of coffee, make it fresh. Frankly coffee and tea should be free. But I expect better from a Fertitta restaurant—fresh coffee and cream. Also put a microwave out there or quit over baking your famous chocolate chip cookies. They are too hard.
I am a partial season ticket holder and love this place. But it is the small things that bother me.
This reservation was for a New Year's Eve dinner. The Rockets game began at 6 pm (one hour earlier than usual start time). Our reservation was for 7:30 pm. Our expectation was to dine and watch the second half of the game from the restaurant.
We arrived early - 7:15. Our table wasn't ready. Ok, no big deal because we were early. We were seated on time. Our waiter came to our table at 7:40 and took a drink order and delivered plates.
We could tell that the staff was already beginning to clear tables as we went for our initial course. After finishing our salad we went for a second course by 7:50 and already much of the food had been cleared. The prime rib was being carted away. We had to stop the server and ask him to cut us a piece before he took it away. We did get other meats and sides at 7:50.
All desserts (in fact all food) was completely cleared before 8:00 pm.
Our waiter, Harold, was kind enough to go back to the kitchen and bring a plate of desserts to our table.
We really feel short changed on this meal. It was our intent to have a leisurely buffet as we watched the second half of the game. Instead we had to wolf down our food as quickly as possible to try and get the second course before the food was put away. It appears to me that the Red and White Bistro is operated as if it is a Toyota Center concession stand, with the food being put away before the end of the third quarter. I am guessing that because it was New Year's Eve, the staff wanted to get away early to go to parties.
Why offer a reservation at 7:30 if the food is going to be put away before 8:00? As I said, this was a special occasion. Had we known this was going to happen we would have left Toyota Center and gone to an outside restaurant.
Our waiter, Harold tried his best for us and we appreciate that. The food was great, I just wish we had had more time to enjoy it.
We won't make this mistake again!
Waited 15 minutes and had a reservation
Greeted after five minutes of waiting
Several tables not cleaned off
Meat too pink
Ran out of cobbler at 6:15pm n reservation at 6pm so very disappointed
Food not warm
Ice cream was given out n waited in line but one scoop only as running low
This was news years eve and I expected more from the Rockets and Landry owner as I have eaten here before and never experienced this not great service and food
Our waiter did his best he could working 3 sections because 2 other servers called in SICK. It took a lot of time to receive plates and water from the waiter. I think some of the hostess should of helped out with drinks and plates to customers instead of just walking around like zombies. We had one hostess that was doing the work of the other 3. The desserts were not up to par for being the Westin Hotel as the featured restaurant. Very plain and nothing special for a New Years Eve Service. Also, the ice cream ran out of Vanilla , only 2 scoops of butter pecan left and the ice cream looked like soft serve not scoops in a bowl. When I went to get my Prime Rib, they just brought out a New one, but for some unknown reason the chef wanted to give me the grizzle and fat from the last Prime Rib he served. I told him don't serve that to me. It seemed like no one was watching the serving lines to keep items up to capacity, or plates where you could find them. I've been a season ticket holder for 32 years, and have been eating in the RED/White since Toyota Center opened up. I guess they must of been short handed but I know Tillman wouldn't approve of the service or produce. Also, it seems after the first serving that some people don't leave their tables which makes it hard for people eating at the second service to get good tables. I was always told you had to leave after the early service. Maybe someones needs to remember that.
We have dined at the Red and White on New Years Eve for 6 years. The past couple of years we were disappointed both with the food choices and the service. But this year things were wonderful! New management has brought back the wonderful food as well as the outstanding service! It was a wonderful place to have dinner before enjoying the Rockets game. We highly recommend the Red and White!
I think for the price the variety of food should be better....sooo many vegetable choices and not enough meat choices....lastly the food was not hot...
Also saw a waiter stick his hands in the cherry's to put on top of somebody hot chocolate with whipped cream at the ice cream bar...
Took a long time to get our drinks. Several mistakes by waitress. Food was Luke warm to cold. Beef was tough. I have dined several times over the past 5 years and the last few times haven’t been as good in food and service. Only advantage seems to be convenience but recommend a local restaurant outside then walk into games.
I've visited this restaurant several times in the past, and have never been dissappointed. This experience was not the same. The quality of the food and service has greatly diminished, and definitely not worth the price anymore. The selections were very few and far between, and the quality of the prime rib was absolutely horrible. The meat was so tough I could barely chew it. It's sad that restaurants like this still charge ridiculous prices but don't provide the same quality product. It should be illegal.
Red & White used to be great. Excellent food choices - for anyone. And fresh, well made, food. Pasta, chicken, beef, salad - as healthy or saucy/salty/buttery as you wanted it. Now it is equivalent to a mid level casino free buffet. It is unfortunate. I don't care who owns the place but the only difference from previous years and now is Landry's. At first, we were told there would be only one Landry's "specialty" per buffet. Their food is slowly taking over. This past visit one of the serving dishes had only processed French fries from Bubba Gump's. The entire buffet was either fried, swimming in a butter/salt liquid or drenched in salad dressing. It is impossible to have a healthy meal here anymore. And the food quality has just gone down significantly. It is a shame as, despite the price, it was such an easy choice to eat there before Rockets games due to the food quality and location. Now, we decided after this last visit, that we will never go back. It's a shame. It makes no sense as Landry's knows how to operate better/fine dining as they have proven with Grotto, La Griglia and Vic and Anthony's. I'm not sure why Levy's Restaurants were so successful at Red & White but Landry's have not been. That's the only thing we see that has changed - the company names on the chef's uniforms. This past time it was just plain bad and jam packed with Landry's restaurant logos. It's just not worth trying anymore, especially at those prices.
Upon arriving the computer was down so it took a while to be seated, it was my wife's birthday so I had requested seating in special area. That didn't happen. Once seated me and my wife went to serve ourselves we came to our table which had used drinks and utensils on our table. before we sat down some had to come clean the table again.
Our waiter was awesome and the food was good. Not sure I would come back for a special occasion again.
the food being served to the patrons was horrific! You have the highest based clientele coming
to your eatery, paying big money and the food, by everyones comments was abysmal. With Landry's now involved we expect improvements ---period.
My wife liked the cheese!!
I have been dining here since it opened. The food use to be very good. The last few times, including this one, the food was below average. There was not a great variety and the vegetables that were placed out on one of the islands, were cold. The Rockets have a new owner that has made his fortune in the food business. If the food that is served at his restaurants is any indication of what the "Bistro" has to look forward to, i'll settle for a medium popcorn, and a small soda. When will some businesses learn that people will usually respond to the price of a meal in two basic ways. It was expensive, but the food was great, or ......but the food was bad. NEVER AGAIN!!
It was my wife and I 1st time to the Bistro and it was more than we expected! Great seats and food! We had never been there before and our server, Nicole, was very helpful and was around when we needed her. With the game going on, you would think it would be super loud however it was not. We are already planning our next date night when the Spurs come to town!
Prior to tonight, I had not eaten at the restaurant in about 3-4 years. In the past, I ate there as part of my birthday celebration before watching my favorite team compete. Tonight, I ate there to celebrate my wedding anniversary before the game. I was hoping to enjoy more fresh seafood entrees like in the past, but that was not the case. We thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp & grits dish but felt the gumbo tasted like it was poured from a can. The other seafood dish was cooked in a sauce that made it taste & look like a store bought frozen seafood dinner. We enjoyed the poultry dishes, grilled veggies and rice dishes. Neither of us eat the other meats on the menu that night but they looked delicious. We enjoyed the dessert and fruit variety and my husband really enjoyed the anniversary gift pictured below. The service was great and the staff are friendly. I would have given this dining experience 5 stars if all 3 seafood entrees tasted better or more fresh seafood entrees were offered.
