About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
The original Reata Restaurant located in the scenic Davis Mountains of west Texas offers the same fine dining and Legendary Texas Cuisine you can find at the Fort Worth location. Alpine, home to Sul Ross State University is near Texas tourist destination Big Bend National Park and the towns of Marathon, Fort Davis and Lajitas. Alpine is also a short drive from Marfa, Texas renowned both for the mysterious Marfa Lights and Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation. Reata, named after the legendary ranch in the James Dean classic movie, "Giant", which was filmed in nearby Marfa, boasts the same high quality Southwestern dining you can find in Fort Worth. This is not food for the faint of heart, from Chicken Fried Steak to Calf Fries or the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin and Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, this is a dining experience not to miss.

Service provided by bartender/waitress was outstanding. Kitchen not so much this evening ... steak off by two doneness levels and dessert was missing a key item. Been to Reata in Alpine multiple times. Usually top notch food prep. I'm guessing this was a one night exception. Will be back.

Overall quality has dropped the last few visits, service slow, slow in responding, lack experience of previous management. Quality of food has been questionable, cold food, orders not as requested and chefs aren’t in line with providing a memorable experience. Will give it one more try!

Dom rocked! The place was a bit busy but he was doing a great job checking on folks, getting orders, etc. He had a backup and she was nice. We shared a plate knowing we were having dessert. Thank goodness we did. We had the citrus chicken then apple crisp. The Reata was on pointe, as expected.

This place closed for lunch unexpectedly and did not let those with reservations know. I had a reservation 3 days in advance and drove 2 hours just to go there. Very poor management.

Food was not up to Reata standards; carne asada was so tough it was hard to cut let alone eat. Have eaten here before and in Ft Worth and loved every meal. Food was very disappointing. Chicken enchiladas were lacking any flavor.

Our server, Marsha, was superb, the food was large portions that were delicious and we really enjoyed the evening. Will definitely eat here the next time we are in town.
