Real Seafood Company - Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
There were four of us celebrating my wife’s birthday. The waite staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was cozy and vintage, which I like, as I’ve been here on many occasions throughout the years. However, this time, several of the food dishes were under cooked. The flounder was not cooked through and, although they did replace it, it wasn’t out until the main meal was mostly over. The acorn squash on the lobster dish was undercooked. The red skin potatoes on three of our dishs were under cooked. We didn’t complain because, after all, it was just veggies, but still. While ordering the fresh perch dish with fries, I mentioned to our waiter that I have a severe shrimp allergy. He said the fries are fried in the same oil as the shrimp. Fries should never be fried in fish or shrimp oil. That said, the perch and lobster were very good tasting. I thought the perch where on the very small side (really bite-sized) for the money. The New York-style Cheesecake was excellent. The alchoholic drinks were pricey. The waiter did keep our (water) glasses and bread basket full.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, and reserved through Open Table. Presumably, Real Seafood had access to the details of that reservation and should have known it was her birthday. Our server (more on her later) clearly had no idea of this, and I believe the only reason she learned is because I asked about their birthday discount (great discount by the way - look it up). In any case, our server was in training/just out of it, and seemed to have a very difficult time. That's cool, I was there once too, but I would hope with an occasion for 2 for a birthday, a restaurant would make more of an effort to give us a more competent dining experience. On that note, when I served at Red Lobster, there's no way we would have had a server with her amount of training out on the floor - it makes me wonder about their training process. But that's neither here nor there.
Regarding the food. It was good. It wasn't great, and had I not had a tremendous discount on it, I would have been upset paying ~$40 a plate for that stuff. The flounder was bland, and the chicken overcooked severely. The shrimp they have down though.
Great meal at fantastic seafood restaurant in the heart of Ann Arbor's gorgeous S. Main Street. Menu item choices look fabulous. I had the Teriyaki Sea Bass - perfectly cooked, and nice mix with spinach. The drink list is fabulous. Our waiter was a perfect host; charming and fun, and helpful with making menu choices. This is definitely the "go-to" restaurant for fresh sea food and a good time!
I ordered pan fried cod, which I have ordered many times in other restaurants. It came undercooked, with the skin on, broiled, and a texture unlike any cod I have ever had before. It was hard to get the waiter's attention, but I showed him the fish and he said it was indeed their version of pan fried cod. Iy was too undercooked fot me to eat. We will not go back.
When we were seated the waiter didn't ask if we were celebrating anything and didn't offer anything. Also we had to send our food back and luckily have it cooked right. I used to globe this place and rave about it but for the 45 minute drive and then what you actually get when you get there isn't the same enjoyment anymore.
My daughter is a Sophomore at The U of M and I took her here when I brought her back after Christmas break. It was our first time here and it was excellent! Wish we would have dined here sooner. One of the best places I have been to on Main street thus far!
While I have been to Real Seafood Co. before and have had delicious food and service, my visit on New Years Eve was a bit disappointing. We brought friends with us and we suggested the restaurant because of the positive experience we had in the past. Overall service was very good, but the food was fair at best. Our friends ordered the sea bass and sweet potatoes. They were splitting the dinner since we had an appetizer. Their food came out with the one piece of fish on a large white plate with nothing else on it. I wish I had a picture of it because we couldn’t believe a restaurant like this would present their food in such a way. Then, their sweet potatoes came out in a small separate bowl. It was all so very strange. I had the lemon sole, and it was good, but not nearly as good as the last time I had it in August.
The menus were paper menus, which was very different from their electronic ones we were accustomed to. The menu wasn’t such a big deal, of course, but the night was simply disappointing and we regretted making the recommendation to our friends. Not sure if it was just the night or if something has changed since August.
We always enjoy Real Seafood! The service, ambiance and food is very good! We both had the cod and it was delicious..... creme brûlée for dessert! All was excellent! The reason it didn't give it five stars is because I reserve that for really fine dining..... but Real Seafood comes close !
Our experience was terrific, except as we were gathering the smoke alarm went off, and was pretty noisy for several minutes. The staff apologized, explained what had happened, and we wre not required to evacuate, but it was loud for a bit!! The rest of the experience was terrific!
This has been my birthday spot for YEARS!! Very disappointed; no free dessert for birthday girl.
We ate in bar to take advantage of HH. Did not like having two servers. Shay was our main person and was SUPER. The guy, (12/12 2 4:30-6:30P) who popped over intermittently, was an intrusion.
We had the best time for a early dinner with a 15 month old granddaughter. Our server Teri was amazing in pacing the dinner for little Avery so all four of us behaved and were able to eat our meals without disturbing others. We enjoyed the time together, the meal and will be back looking for Teri. Total pro because she told us she is also a mom to young children. Thank you all for a very nice time. Joyce, Renee, Zack and Avery
We had a lovely dinner with our grand daughter. Her swordfish was well done as was my whole fish. The presentation was attractive. Unfortunately my husband got a dish that was a standard for us but turned out to be mediocre that particular evening. He got gluten free seafood alfredo with a tomato based sauce. it had very little flavor.
