Real Seafood Company - Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
This was one of many meals we have enjoyed at Real Seafood. It is wonderful for a special occasion. The seafood is always wonderfully prepared and the service is attentive without being overbearing. The Blue Plate special, though sounding pedantic, is a wonderful value - a full size crab cake, a skewer with both broiled shrimp and sea scallops and a small piece of stuffed flounder plus two sides. If you want a lighter meal, just order the crab cake appetizer. It's a full size crab cake garnished with a side salad of greens, strawberries and mango with a wonderful balsamic dressing.
The whole range of Main Street Venture Restaurants (including, The Earle, Gratzi and others) are a great deal on an actual birthday. The two of us ate for half price.
Real Seafood is an Ann Arbor iconic restaurant having been on Main street for decades. While our experience was good, it was not great. Food was tasty, served hot and server was good, but nothing was exceptional. For the price, I was expecting a bit more. We did have an extremely noisy toddler at the next table and all the other tables we close and crowded. Thought it would be a little more special, ambiance felt like an average chain restaurant.
When we sat down we noticed that all of the glasses for water had water drops in them. I asked our server about it and she said that they were busy and didn’t have time to dry them. Well drinking water out of a glass that has water in it from the dish washing machine isn’t very appealing. My date asked for her white fish to be “well done”, it wasn’t. This type of service was not what I would expect from a restaurant like this. I don’t think we’ll be back.
Been going to this restaurant for years and finally had a less than stellar experience. Waitress was not up to par, steak was charred and items were ordered and forgotten. But to put things into perspective I have been going here for almost 10 years and have never had a bad experience. I will be back soon.
5:30pm is a great time to have a reservation at Real Seafood. Seated at our table as soon as we arrived. The pomegranate martini was very good. Our server, can't remember his name (sorry), was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The 4 of us had fish. (imagine) The stuffed salmon and the chilean sea bass were very tasty. My cornmeal encrusted trout was ok. The texture was wonderful, just not much flavor. All of us enjoyed the food. My husband practically wiped his plate. He had the salmon. The coffee, after dinner was quite satisfying. We shared a piece of hummingbird cake. Very tasty and moist. This is probably our 4th or 5th visit to Real Seafood and we haven't been disappointed yet.
I feel they have gone back to their old ways of high price and mediocre food. Three of us got the blue plate and found it tasteless, slightly dry in spots and just ok. Guess we will move on, once again. Shame they spent all that money in modernization a while ago and forgot the basics of excellence.
There were four of us celebrating my wife’s birthday. The waite staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was cozy and vintage, which I like, as I’ve been here on many occasions throughout the years. However, this time, several of the food dishes were under cooked. The flounder was not cooked through and, although they did replace it, it wasn’t out until the main meal was mostly over. The acorn squash on the lobster dish was undercooked. The red skin potatoes on three of our dishs were under cooked. We didn’t complain because, after all, it was just veggies, but still. While ordering the fresh perch dish with fries, I mentioned to our waiter that I have a severe shrimp allergy. He said the fries are fried in the same oil as the shrimp. Fries should never be fried in fish or shrimp oil. That said, the perch and lobster were very good tasting. I thought the perch where on the very small side (really bite-sized) for the money. The New York-style Cheesecake was excellent. The alchoholic drinks were pricey. The waiter did keep our (water) glasses and bread basket full.
