Real Seafood Company - Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I have been coming here for her birthday for years. Unfortunately this year was very disappointing. I’m addition to being out of calimari and shrimp (not their fault) it was just a let-down overall. The food was over-sauced and not well-balanced. The cocktail (which I’ve had in years past) tasted like mostly lemon juice (even after I specifically sent it back) and our waitress must have been new since she often forgot information we had already told her. We’ve loved this restaurant in the past and we’ll definitely give it another try, but this last visit has left us worried.
We went out for my wife’s birthday. Waiting a while for drinks. Finally ordered food and my steak came back ice cold. The perch that some ordered was over cooked. Our asparagus were burnt. The manager came over and apologize and remade the food and took it off the bill along with a bottle of wine we ordered. He made it right.
We were looking forward to a night out to catch up with friends. The atmosphere and ambiance were good, and it smelled great when we walked in. The wine list was good, although our server was not very knowledgeable about the selections. The oysters on the half shell were good, but small, especially for the price. The entrees sounded a lot better than they turned out to be the seafood “Blue plate special” consisted of a bland crab cake, a bland stuffed flounder, and over cooked skewer with shrimp and scallops. For the prices we paid, we felt the food was quite over rated and over priced. The best part of our meal was the delicious chocolate mousse. Considering the vast number of nice restaurants in the area, we will not be going back to Real Seafood.
We went on a Sunday night so it was not crowded. Elected to sit at a table in the bar area which was nice and quiet. General seating area very dated (plastic tableclothes with fish on them). Food was okay. I had the crab legs which were swimming in water. Nothing to retain heat in the pot so I put my plate over it. Sent the salad back because the lettuce was literally mushy. Husband had paella which he really enjoyed.
Nice table, good waiter, many selections, very average and boring food. Wife got the scallops and roasted potatoes- all were bland and dissappointing. I got the blue plate- grilled skewer had excellent flavor but was overcooked, both the stuffed flounder and crab cake tasted and had the texture of something out of the freezer section. Brussel sprouts were good. Zero attempt at any presentation on either plate. House Chardonnay was good. Not worth the $100 for the meal. Go to Gandy Dancer if you're in the mood for seafood!
The last time we dined at Real Seafood was 5 years ago, a post game or pre- game tradition. I should have known we were in trouble when our menu was presented to us on an ipad. Escargot was good but served with 5 day old bread at best, New England chowder was flavorless and like paste. The Manhattan was watery with very little pieces of seafood, literally two pieces. My swordfish, blackened was beyond dry as was my husbands stuffed flounder. They asparagus on the side looked to have been thrown on my plate. Needless to say we will not be coming back. Very disappointed.
We traveled from Beecher Illinois to Ann Arbor Michigan for a conference. My husband had blackened whitefish with french fries, house salad and clam chowder; I had the yellow Lake Perch, Redskin potatos, house salad and clam chowder. My husband found the blackened Whitefish to be good but bland. I found my meal to be very good I really enjoyed the Lake Perch and the potatoes the clam chowder top the meal. The service was excellent Eric was awesome he really knew the menu well and gave us some great suggestions. The Ambience was a little dated for what we are used to in the Chicagoland area but it was clean and the bathroom was clean. If we are ever in the area again we plan to return.
We usually dine early for dinner so the restaurant was not very busy at 4:30, but we received exceptional service and the quality of the seafood we had was as good as anything we have had anywhere. The staff was very attentive and prompt. The place was already filling up fast when we left about a hour later. Highly recommend.
One of Ann Arbor’s Best meals year in and year out. We have been coming to Real seafood since 2001 and it’s still on our short list even with all of the new places around town. The Miso glazed Chilean sea bass was the winner this time. Also, our waiter made blue cheese stuffed olives to order which was the perfect touch for our martinis.
We went before seeing Hillary Clinton at the Hill Theater, so were very early for a dinner. Luckily, this made our excellent service even better. I had not been to this restaurant in many years. It seemed to me much improved. The food was delicious. I had the Blue Plate Special, which was pricey but so good. My guests had white fish and stuffed flounder. Everyone was delighted with their seafood and their wine. Afterwards we split an order of chocolate brandy mousse. perfect ending. I can't wait to go back.
The food was amazing, drinks were great. Waitress was horrible, asked three different times to receive everything we ordered! Other than the noise, wobbley table, flys& nants, poor waitress, our night was fair for a birthday dinner. I ordered creme brulee free for my birthday dessert & asked for it to go. My girlfriend ordered coconut cream pie to go. We arrived back home to see both were placed in cardboard boxes & had strawberries and blueberries in the coconut cream pie, brulee was a nightmare! Have never seen anyone put a custard on cardboard, it leaked threw the cardboard and on my vehicle seat. We have had nothing but good service in the past but for two hundred dollars, I think we will be looking for a better place for seafood after this experience!!
Food was perfect! Crab cakes are a generous size with very little filler. The scallops were sweet & delicate, grilled perfectly. Stuffed flounder is amazing, we also had mussels which were fantastic. Can’t go wrong with the desserts here either! So fresh!
Dingy and run down, just filthy. Not sure which was more horrendous the service or the food!??? Actually the service was worse! The only bright spot was the manager who handled everything calmly and with empathy and grace. He literally did everything he could to make us feel better. I also must mention besides the service being terrible our server was particularly rude, unprofessional and appeared and smelled unkempt... which is also not very appetizing. Despite the kind efforts by the manager we won't be back.
My husband and I went to the Real Seafood Co to enjoy a Birthday lunch taking advantage of their birthday deal. We ordered 4 appetizers to share. Three were delicious - calamari, escargot and a pot of clams. The fourth - lobster bites - were over breaded and the bites turned out to be bits. We still ate them but when our server asked about the meal we were honest and said we wouldn't order them again but everything else was great. Shortly, a manager came over to our table to express his regret that we didn't like the bites and that he would pass along our comments to the chef. Although we did not request it (after all, we ate them) he deducted that appetizer from our bill.
We have eaten at Real Seafood many times and always liked it but thought this extra special treatment deserved notice.
We went there to celebrate my friend's birthday. Real Seafood has a very generous offer for people who dine there on their actual birthday--free entrée (with the purchase of another at full price) and free dessert. The crab cakes we had were wonderful, possibly the best in town. The sides and bread were delicious as well. The service was outstanding, attentive without being intrusive. The prices are not cheap but with a free entrée included it is certainly a bargain for a birthday meal. It's been a favorite of mine for many years with food and service always top-notch. I highly recommend it.
