rbk American Grill
We went after an art class on the same block. It was a nice find, appetizers were so good we didn't need dinner.
We dine at RBK frequently and it is alway delicious food & great service.
Fantastic waitress, she was so much fun. The open table menu was completely different from the website menu, which was different than the actual restaurant menu.
Food was excellent & the service eased even better.
The food was very good. I like the multiple gluten free selections. Made a great summer cocktail called slap and tickle.
My wife and I arrived a little bit before 5:30 PM on Friday. The restaurant was already pretty full. We were seated at the last open table outside. The outdoor seating area is slightly cramped and small, but it was nice to be outside. The waitress commented that it was busy for the time and usually doesn't pick up until later. This probably explains the very slow service. Our drinks came within 10 minutes, but our food took 40 minutes. My steak was very overcooked. I ordered medium and was given a well done steak. No pink at all. I would have said something and maybe even sent it back, but since it took so long, I knew we'd miss our movie we had scheduled for after dinner. My wife got fish tacos, which she liked, and the lettuce wrap appitizer, which wasn't very good. We skipped dessert because of the time crunch. I'd probably try it again. There were a few menu items that I wanted to try, but I'd hesitate to recommend this to others because of the slow service and overcooked steak.
Nice atmosphere, good variety in menu, good well priced drinks, good food, good presentation, great servers, definitely recommend.
Only question is why is it 1/2 empty at 7 on a Saturday night. But that makes it easier for me to get a table.
Go, you’ll have a good meal.
Great food, great drinks, great service. Love RBK. Undoubtedly a top selection for dinner in Downers Grove. Reliable and thoughtful selections. Will be back soon!
Great food and great service!!!!! This place is fantastic!!!!!
They were out of roughly half the items our party of 6 ordered without explanation. We were seated at 7pm and didn't receive our entrees until 830pm, though they did not seem to be terribly busy or short-staffed. The food was overpriced and not very good quality. The best thing we agreed was the side of fries we ordered to share. The hostess was inattentive and failed to mention an appetizer ordered was not in stock; she simply didn't bring it out and we didn't see her again until the entrees arrived.
Limited menu selection. Bar drink was not made to my liking after I asked if they had what I wanted in it. Was told they did but actually did not and they substituted with what they had.
Wonderful food and good wine, how can you go wrong? Service was also great
We had a great meal and outstanding service from Andrea. Enjoyable meal
Great Saturday night dinner in downtown Downers Grove.
This place offers chic, modern dining in the suburbs with very good food and ok service. I recommend the jambalaya if you like spice.
Great service and outstanding food.
We had a wonderful dinner. Exceptional food, service, wine. Quiet environment.
Main issue was there were several items on the menu that they were out of that we were not told about to begin with & wanted to order. It was disappointing. Better to tell customers they are out of menu items to begin with.
Very nice meal and excellent service, we would come back!
From the moment that we stepped inside our experience was great. The service and the food were wonderful!
Good service. Friendly greeting. Nice portion size. Food was very good. Nice place for an evening meal. Will definitely go back.
The Dodd was fine but for no one being in the restaurant it took a long time to get our food- the restaurant needed to be cleaned- you could see the dust and filth on the vent in the ceiling in the center of the restaurant. There was a Cobb web hanging off one of the lights over the bar and there was a Christmas plant on top of the shelf in the restaurant- it was clear that attention to detail was not the case - I would not return
Meals were very good. The scallops special was outstanding, best ever tasted. Service was very friendly. Will definitely go back!
The food was delish. I had the beet salad and the scallops.
Disappointing experience. We normally love their food! Our server was very nice but forgot to put in our order. We were there for an hour and 15 minutes and left without eating dinner. We left as we had another event to attend. The server apologized. You would think they would have compensated us with a free drink or appetizer. We never even saw a manager there.
The evening was great with EXCELLENT food! I definitely recommend this restaurant. The only drawback was that the noise level was very loud and the restaurant wasn't even at capacity.
Shockingly Awesome!!! Go
The lights give a relaxing mood, nice to see outside, great variety of good options, scrumptious appetizer, main dish, and dessert, friendly staff especially the busing help! We will be back!
All around great experience
Super great waitress. She had nothing to do with the yummy yet room temperature crab and lobster cakes. Wine list is poor. Fish seemed like it was pre-made from frozen... yuck
Food was flavorful and great temperature!
We would go back
Solidly decent food, but not worth the prices. I had the filet, which was a grocery store quality piece of meat. It was served on a bed of very grainy, lukewarm mashed potatoes. Our server wasn’t terribly friendly and the place is quite noisy. Not a terrible experience, but definitely better places to spend my money. Next time, we will go down the street to Pierce Tavern. It’s loud too, but the food and the service there are leaps and bounds better than RBK.
Great neighborhood restaurant! Always consistent...
It started off great! The waiter was attentive and helpful. The short rib nachos were awesome. The greek salad was very salty and the crab/lobster cakes were just ok, kinda bland. They were not warm enough. Everything I ordered was just ok. The mussels, i though was in a wine broth sauce...it was creamy and no flavor...like watery milky wine sauce. Not good at all. The crusty bread with it was dry and burnt. We also ordered jambalaya was way too spicy to even eat. I probably won’t be back. I wish I liked this place cuz it’s so cute.
Very happy with all aspects of my dining experience. The plates were very rich in flavors and beautifully presented. Service was very good as well.
A great find in Downers Grove just north of the train station. Excellent specials including shrimp tacos. Cozy atmosphere, awesome banana cream pie with Oreo crust.
Food was good. Only negative was that it did take a while for the food to come out.
RBK always does a wonderful job of accommodating of my family and just recently had a meeting where we were given a quiet table to spread out and work (thanks for the sticky notes!). The food is always fantastic. It's a secret gem here in DG and I am so happy they are here!
rbk is always an exceptional place to dine!
Food, service and overall ambiance never fail to impress.
RBK is a fun spot nestled right in the downtown area, easy to get to with a good cocktail list. The service is fantastic, and sometimes has to make up for dips in speed or quality of the food/drinks.
I had to wear my overcoat in the restaurant as it was cold inside. Server told us their furnace was putting out all the heat possible. About 30 minutes later, the manager I presume, walked over to a wall thermostat and turned up the heat. I was able to take off my coat.
There is no "cozyness" to the restaurant. Concrete floor, few wall decorations, run-of-the mill table and chairs. To my mind the restaurant looked like they could close down and move out with a minimum of effort.
Food was OK as was the service.
Although I try to patronize local establishments, we won't be back to this restaurant.
