This place is just ok. I’ve been here 4 times because my date wanted to go. 3 of the four times I was disappointed. Every time it was food quality! Just average and lacked freshness. This last time it was the Porkchop! I can do a better job!
No iced tea? What? 1/2 hour for tea to be ready. 45 min. wait for steak dinner and mac and cheese? Apologies from waiter. . . . the place was not that busy. Waiter had no customer service sense. Never came to refill drinks. Awful for the price.
This is our go to place in DG. The food is great, consistent, and reasonably priced. You can get something casual - like the burger, or go more upscale and get the fish of the day. The salmon with orange, fennel and spinach is one of my favorites. Servers are friendly and efficient, and it's just a great neighborhood place.
nice place. interior of the restaurant is ok - every day dinning. nothing especial. food was ok also. i had their Salmon special. came up with spinach, mushrooms and edamame in the broth. not sure why broth was there, because they did not provide spoon for that) beets salad was very nice.
First time and found everything very good. Good very tasty.
We’ve had several great meals here! Never a bad dish
Every time we've gone to RBK the food has been excellent.
Very good. This would stand up very well next to similar restaurants in the city. I would just like to see the place dressed up a bit more for dinner.
We’ve been here before and my favorite dish is the goat cheese appetizer. It is the best! We took in an early movie at the Tivoli and RBK is a short walk away. It was my husband’s birthday which I noted when I made the reservation on open table and my only disappointment was there was no meny]tin of it by wait staff. We had lobster roll and grouper and both were good.
I like the atmosphere. It's a fairly small place but the noise volume is moderate so it's not exactly intimate. But for a group of friends this was perfect. Food was great... the short ribs are excellent. The mixed drinks are flavorful and potent. I thought our server did a great job too. She was attentive and friendly without being overly so.
Great service and great food. Short ribs are amazing.
The noise level is deafening. You are shouting at someone sitting six inches across from you. I would never go back. also loud music playing.
We were happy with the menu options and the food tasted great. Our server was very nice. The restaurant is clean and although we didn't sit at the bar, it looked very inviting. The restaurant was completely full, but we still felt taken care of. I would recommend it.
Very thoughtful menu using quality ingredients. Same with the hand crafted cocktails. So good, and well made.
I will say though that drinks, apps, and *most* of the dinners were excellent, the grouper was not, unfortunately. Dry, covered in cheese (why???), and just bland.
I won’t knock the restaurant for one bad dinner though. Been here many times and is always great.
Thursday date night. Excellent service and a variety of specials. Proteins cooked perfectly. They had a chicken tortilla soup which was the best item of the night. While the salmon and braised short rib were cooked perfectly they were short on salt and generally flavor overall.
Went on a date night with the wife and had a nice time! Food was fantastic! I had the hot chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wife had the lobster roll and the caramelized Brussels sprouts and she loved it.
Our server, Crystal was great. Great recommendations and made us great cocktails!
Absolutely delicous food in an intimate atmosphere. Owners are wonderful and treat everyone like a welcomed friend. Highly recommend.
We love RBK. We've ben there several times, and have never been disappointed. The menu has something for everyone, and if you're looking for something on the less-expensive, the burgers are fantastic! Other favorites include the baked goat cheese, and the short ribs.
It was Valentine's Day and we were stuck on the tollway. We called ahead to say we would be late. We were about 20 minutes late for our reservation and they treated us as if there was no issue and helped us relax. The waitress was very helpful in giving us her opinion on menu selections to help us decide what to order. We were in in and out in a short time which we appreciated so we could get to the nearby theater on time.
The food is very good, but the menu is limited. We realized the menu has not changed since we first visited the restaurant. It would be nice to have more choices. For example, we wanted to try the chicken dish, but we don't eat dark meat. There is no option for choosing white meat. Overall, we like it, but will not go back for some time due to the limitations.
Everything was good, but nothing stood out as spectacular. The jambalya special was delicious. The lobster roll was good. The cheeseburger was overcooked and dry. Appetizers - crab cakes were good, and the goat cheese balls were good. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, and we had to wait about 20 mins or more at the bar. The table we were given was a bit large for our party of 4 (round corner table under a too-bright spotlight was more suitable for 5 or 6 people). In loud environment it was difficult to hear one other. Server was good. If I lived in Downers Grove, I might come back, but this restaurant is not a destination I would travel to again.
Our waitress was great. Made perfect drinks, was friendly and checked back enough. Food was great. Everyone happy.
Wonderful food as always, love this place
Very nice little restaurant along the train tracks in Downers Grove.
It is a casual place with very good food.
Excellent. First time in Downers Grove. Great place to go before or after a movie or play
Hidden treasure in Downers Grove...Really a great value....
The heat didnt work for the 1st hour there.
No apologizes just pretended it was no big deal. People left it was so cold.
We were a little disappointed in some aspects of the evening but some of it became clear when we talked to our server. They were 2 servers short so poor planning by the manager. Second, one of the sides was iced cold. We told the server this and she apologized and offered to bring the manager over. We told her we weren't looking for any freebie. We just wanted someone to know about the service which she explained and apologized for. We'll probably give RBK one more time in hopes of a better experience.
First time visit. I had the grilled shrimp tacos which were very bland, they need some kind spice or something. Others had the eggplant and the short ribs were good.
Wonderful food, cute look, trendy vibe and home cooked great food but very slow service.
Decent food for a hefty price
Enjoyed a wonderful meal with a friend! The goat cheese appetizer was perfect - loved the crispy goat cheese! I had the eggplant parmesan, which was a unique plating - much healthier than the traditional version. It was delicious and even made great leftovers. My friend had the short ribs and enjoyed her dinner as well. We split the flourless cake for dessert - rich, dense, chocolaty - a perfect way to end the meal. The waiter made an excellent recommendation for my cocktail. The service seemed a little slow at first to take our appetizer order, but after that, everything went smoothly with enough attention to keep our drinks/water filled, well-timed food, and allowed us to enjoy our conversation. I will definitely be back as there's lots more I'd love to try on the menu.
Friday night dinner at RBK . Located in a cute Downers Grove downtown area. Food and service were both average, at best. Three of the six of us enjoyed our meals, the others not so great. Our server was pretty sassy. It took them a long time to bring some things we requested- like mustard and diet coke. Probably won't go back.
Delicious food and a nice atmosphere. We tried the crispy goat cheese as well as shrimp ceviche appetizers. The goat cheese was rich and creamy, and ceviche was bright and boldly flavored. Both super tasty! Would recommend RBK!
Excellent food and service!!! Nice selection of craft beers and speciality cocktails. My only minor complaint is when you serve a $12 specialty cocktail, don't use standard maraschino cherries, they are overly processed and actually detract from the drink. Splurge on the Luxardo cherries or the moderately priced Bada Bing cherries from Tillamook farms.
Amazing food ! Fresh and well plated
Food was good but nothing special. Salad with meal was separate charge, no bread on the table. Expensive for ordinary meal.
We came to RBK for a double birthday celebration and shared plates with excellent success. We shared a prosciutto flatbread (topnotch), beet salad, crab cakes, sweet potato tots, and entre chopped salad. Two amazing desserts in bourbon bread pudding and cherry tart. Everything was delicious, inventive use of ingredients, and lovely presentation. I recommend this place highly, and it is worth the drive. One drawback is how incredibly noisy it was, at least on Saturday, but a large percentage of that noise came from one table right next to us, so we could not avoid their raucous laughter and loud voices.
Great food and service. Numerous options to choose from
