rbk American Grill Ratings and Reviews
We were a little disappointed in some aspects of the evening but some of it became clear when we talked to our server. They were 2 servers short so poor planning by the manager. Second, one of the sides was iced cold. We told the server this and she apologized and offered to bring the manager over. We told her we weren't looking for any freebie. We just wanted someone to know about the service which she explained and apologized for. We'll probably give RBK one more time in hopes of a better experience.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal with a friend! The goat cheese appetizer was perfect - loved the crispy goat cheese! I had the eggplant parmesan, which was a unique plating - much healthier than the traditional version. It was delicious and even made great leftovers. My friend had the short ribs and enjoyed her dinner as well. We split the flourless cake for dessert - rich, dense, chocolaty - a perfect way to end the meal. The waiter made an excellent recommendation for my cocktail. The service seemed a little slow at first to take our appetizer order, but after that, everything went smoothly with enough attention to keep our drinks/water filled, well-timed food, and allowed us to enjoy our conversation. I will definitely be back as there's lots more I'd love to try on the menu.
Friday night dinner at RBK . Located in a cute Downers Grove downtown area. Food and service were both average, at best. Three of the six of us enjoyed our meals, the others not so great. Our server was pretty sassy. It took them a long time to bring some things we requested- like mustard and diet coke. Probably won't go back.
Excellent food and service!!! Nice selection of craft beers and speciality cocktails. My only minor complaint is when you serve a $12 specialty cocktail, don't use standard maraschino cherries, they are overly processed and actually detract from the drink. Splurge on the Luxardo cherries or the moderately priced Bada Bing cherries from Tillamook farms.
We came to RBK for a double birthday celebration and shared plates with excellent success. We shared a prosciutto flatbread (topnotch), beet salad, crab cakes, sweet potato tots, and entre chopped salad. Two amazing desserts in bourbon bread pudding and cherry tart. Everything was delicious, inventive use of ingredients, and lovely presentation. I recommend this place highly, and it is worth the drive. One drawback is how incredibly noisy it was, at least on Saturday, but a large percentage of that noise came from one table right next to us, so we could not avoid their raucous laughter and loud voices.
I was very disappointed with my meal. I was looking forward to having fish and so I ordered the "special" which was fish and chips. The fish crust was moist and the restaurant did not have Malt Vinegar. Instead they brought out red wine vinegar. The flatbread was just "ok" and overall the service was slow for not being crowded.
This was my first time at rbk American Grill. I found the menu interesting but a bit confusing. The eggplant parmesan looked interesting, so I ordered it. When it arrived, it was a tiny serving -- three slices of a small eggplant with a little shredded mozzarella cheese melted on top, accompanied by some greens with shredded mozzarella. It came with no pasta or bread. It was delicious, but the portion was so small that I was still hungry when I left the restaurant. The server offered no input when I ordered -- in fact, service throughout the meal was indifferent at best. on top of everything else, the chairs are not upholstered and I became very uncomfortable sitting there through dinner.
While I might be willing to give rbk another try sometime, it won't be for a while.
This was my second time at RBK, and it's great for a group where a bunch of us have dietary restrictions. Thankfully our table on the patio and the quality of the food made up for the subpar service - forgotten drink orders, missed appetizers, timing of the meal generally off. I really wanted to like this place more! But for the prices for the food, you expect the service to be better. The ambiance inside is also just meh - feels a little more casual than the menu itself. We'll probably go back since we're local, but to sit at the bar and less for a nice friends' dinner.
The food was great. I always feel that the wine list is a little limited but we found something that worked for our group. My only real criticism is in the service of our waitress, she acted like we were bothering her each and every time she came to our table, including the first time she came over. Others that we interacted with were quite friendly though.
We unfortunately had a poor experience at RBK. We were seated promptly but we sat ignored for over 10 minutes. It was very weird, servers just kept walking right by us and no one said a word or even looked our way. We were really hungry so we ended up just leaving, which is unfortunate as the food looked good.
This was a disappointment. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was half empty. That should have been the first clue. The restaurant doesn't live up to it's "hip" reviews. It really is very nice inside and the 2 patio areas are lovely as well. Unfortunately, the food was not good. We ordered flat bread which was soggy and cold and not terribly flat. It may have been tasty if it wasn't soggy. Also ordered the goat cheese appetizer which was cold and served with marinara most likely from a jar. The server dropped the spoon into the sauce and asked if that was ok. Not sure what I was supposed to do with a spoon in my marinara so I asked her to just take it out. My husband had tortilla soup which also wasn't hot and a chopped salad that was underwhelming. No reason to return here. Too bad since the atmosphere was nice.
Everything was spectacular. Our server, Kerry, was delightful and helped a lot with recommendations. We did the ceviche appetizer (awesome) along with the crab cakes, grilled shrimp tacos, and the tempura asparagus - all DELICIOUS. A definite neighborhood favorite.
If you are people-watching in downtown D.G. , RBK is the place to be. We passed on the patio that day but RBK's patio is shady in the evening and allows great people watching without too much annoying traffic (although there is an occasional train.) The ice-cream shop next-door provides some entertainment. My husband has commented that the menu doesn't change but why would you want a change when the menu has so many great standard items! My new yummy item, the "grown-up version" of mac n' cheese with peppers and mushrooms was fantastic and (yes the menu does change!) the tempura asparagus which I love, love, love is BACK! The ceviche is great as always too. Definitely one of my favorite places to dine outdoors in the summer!
Had a wonderful meal at rbk American Grill. We shared appetizers (P.E.I. muscles, crispy goat cheese and crab cakes), entrees (beer battered shrimp tacos, rbk burger, 6 hour short ribs and Nashville hot chicken) and dessert (flourless chocolate cake, bread pudding and a cherry tart). Food was excellent, service was wonderful. Pace was leisurely. The wine list is very nice, with a good variety of reds and whites at reasonable prices. We stuck with the dry rose. Highly recommend!
I was told, after I made the reservations, RBK was a hamburger joint. Well, it's more than a hamburger joint, it is casual but, the menu is sophisticated . I had shrimp tacos, they were scrumptious and crunchy. Scallops were ordered and they were cooked to perfection. Other people had fish and loved their food. I had cherry tart that was sublime a dynamite crust. We also ordered banana cream pie with oreo crust WOW. My one pet peeve with restaurants today is NOISE and sorry to say RBK is LOUD. It's very irritating and doesn't have to be loud. There are tons of noise baffling items on the market use just 1, please.
RBK was enjoyed by all and we will be back.
RBK is close to home, and makes a great dinner spot for a dressed-up menu with casual convenience. Our meals were both quite good, and the pace of the meal was just what the evening called for. We'll continue to Lean on RBK to deliver when we don't have time to cook ourselves!
