We went to Ray’s for my boyfriend’s birthday, as we have on previous birthdays, because he loves steak. Their steaks are phenomenal and the place is unpretentious. There are no words for how sad we are that this neighborhood gem is closing. Apparently we aren’t the only ones who feel that way because the restaurant was jam packed! There was a huge line of people waiting to check in for their reservation or put their names on the huge walk in list. I know it is a fabulous steakhouse, but the lobster and crab mac & cheese and their creamed spinach are two of my favorite foods in the world. Don’t go, Ray’s!!!
Service, food, and atmosphere outstanding as it always has been when we have been here. Heartbreaking that this is the end of an era of this amazing dining experience.
The food was good however there was a couple with a toddler at the table next to us who was screaming almost the entire time.
Ray’s is about eating a steak. There is no ambiance— no styling, no dim lights, no leather booths, no music, not even anything on the walls. They have a limited bar; I asked if they could make a gin and tonic and they were able to do that, but the waitress implied there were limits to what they could accommodate. That’s okay, if what you are interested in is eating a steak and not any of the other stuff. The steaks were good, and mashed potatoes and creamed spinach come as sides automatically, with a fairly standard list of other sides available al la cart. Trying it for the first time, the setting was a bit of a surprise, but the meal itself was really good.
Rays is always a wonderful meal!
We were looking for a local steakhouse that was not a stuffy place, and this was better than expected! I had the filet with a hollandaise sauce, DELICIOUS!
Delicious food and service was so fast we barely had time to finish our salads. If the server had shown a bit more warmth and not been robotic we would have offered 5 stars.
We do hope to return and maybe the overall experience will indeed be exceptional.
Good steak. Good value. Meh decor. Good “diner style” service. Chairs are rock hard, and Ray doesn’t serve coffee lest a guest should linger. Not a bad place. Just don’t expect too much.
As long as you like your steaks rare, you're good to go. Tried to get medium well, was told only medium. Their version of medium is medium rare. Friend ordered medium rare, and got rare (cold center). Not to my liking, but if you like rare steaks, they're not bad.
Great food! Loved the filet mignon.
Best steak west of DC
Even at relatively low prices for a steakhouse, their has to be some sense of hospitality. There was none. And the wine list is truly awful.
Best steak in town, at much lower prices than most other steak houses. Friendly, attentive service.
Perfectly cooked quality cuts of beef with tasty and sides.
Rays is a great, no frills steakhouse without a full bar and limited drink options (no coffee/tea for dessert?!). As a result of the limited options, not everyone will love it; it has a limited appeal for the evening diner.

Always amazing for an incredible steak dinner. The food and staff are superb, and Rays is by far the best steakhouse in the DMV.
Steak was awesome and one if the best places to have steak in DC. Loved it and awesome chocolate mousse as well. Ate way tooi much but enjoyed it
I always recommend it because I love this place. But things are slipping. Our waitress has no personality, didn’t know the wine menu well and didn’t know what bottle we ordered was no longer available. Then when we both SPECIFICALLY described how we’d like our filets. They both came out overdone. This is the first time this has happened to me here and I was quite disappointed.
I hope they regain their worth.
The steaks continue to be best in class and served at the perfect temperature. The establishment is clean and wait staff service is customer oriented and so knowledgeable of the menu. We'll be back.
The service was ok but my Waitress sucked . I need the chef's to butterfly my steak. But he can not butterfly a 16oz steak . This guy just cut it up for me. Please please get some chef's at can butterfly a steak.
Food is always great, but I always feel like the server is trying to rush us through dinner and out the door. This time the server asked to take my plate and I wasn’t done.
Ordered a $65 dry aged rib-eye steak that, while cooked to temperature in the middle, came out dry as jerky. Wait staff and hostess were quick, ambiance is no frills, as advertised. After spending $90 on this meal I was left pondering how many times I could have gone somewhere like Texas Roadhouse for a similarly underwhelming experience. I had much higher hopes for the steaks at Ray's, but after having the most expensive steak on offer, I'm not impressed. I assume they're using USDA choice meat as the steak wasn't advertised as prime. The dry aging process left this grade of meat tough and flavorless outside the char on the outside. I'm unlikely to return which is too bad because I had read many positive reviews.
Steak was great but dining room was crowded and too casual for the price of the meal. tables too close together, no table cloths, and hardly any ambiance. Wine list was also lacking. For a place with this good of steaks, the rest of the experience should come up a few notches.
Excellent food and service. We were all very satisfied and content.
I ordered the Cowboy steak (Medium cooked) and noticed it was cooked unevenly. When I started to cut into the steak it started as well done to medium and then rare in the middle. When the waitress took it back to the kitchen they only seared the outside to hide the bleeding red on the outside but it was still rare on the inside. When she took it back again they had to cut the steak in slices and by then it was well done. Not worth the price you pay.
Tables are too close to one another. Decor and ambiance are subpar. It looks like there was no thought put into the restaurant. It literally looks like they took an open space with white walls and threw in as many tables as possible. Service was very slow and food was just okay - not very flavorful.
Ny strip was great. Kc strip mediocre
Great steaks at very good value. The Porterhouse was worth it. Definitely a place to recommend.
We ordered Caesar salads, filet mignon, and key lime pie. The service was GREAT!!! Kevin was our server. Ask for him!!! He's very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He recommended a wine we were unfamiliar with - "Educated Guess" - it was excellent. A wonderful experience. We'll definitely be back.
Ray’s is one of the best restaurants in town. If you feel like a steak, they deliver the best, hands down. In our last visit, service left a lot to be desired, which is why they lost a star.
This was not our first, and certainly not the best experience we have had at Ray's. The steaks were as good as they always are. However, the room was exceptionally dark - not sure why it was so dimly lit. Must admit, this was the first time I can recall that coffee was not available. Our group was interested in dessert, but not without coffee - what is that all about ??
We ordered four different steaks and all were served to use very undercooked.

Always an excellent experience when visiting Arlington. Steaks were perfect and sides were delicious.
Steaks were drastically over cooked.... service left much to be desired. won’t be back.
We were disappointed in the sides and the comfort of the place, two of our steaks were very good, one filet mignon was under cooked, sent back and returned cut up and over cooked. Overall not a good experience.
The meat is first class meat, very tender and juicy excellent
I hadn’t been to RTS in such a long time but so glad we went! Same great food and service as I remembered. Was sad they don’t do the lil spiced nuts or lil fudge after dinner but oh well!!
