Ray's The Steaks

Not a conventional, expense-account steakhouse. We do not offer traditional, formal service or elegant, romantic accommodations.
What Insiders Are Saying
High quality meats that won’t break the bank.
Food was absolutely delicious. For the price point you literally cannot get a better steak. I just wish they still served coffee. Staff was friendly and did not hover too much. Overall, great experience but could use some coffee.
Amazing steaks in town- we found our spot for special occasions! I love how they have a simple menu with different steak selections. Outstanding prep of their steaks! Recommend getting garlic mashed potatoes.
When you spend this much money on a steak you expect it to be cooked as ordered. We ordered a medium Porterhouse to share and it was rare and cold!
We,ve eaten here over a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Just miss a cup of coffee with the delicious desserts.
Prices have gone up, decor is bland and food quality was average. A bit disappointing.
It was great on every level. Unbelievably juicy prime cuts of steak. You will not find better quality for the money, especially when unlimited sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach are included with the price of the entree. Knowledgeable wait staff. Our waitress described the characteristics of the wines we selected very accurately. Can't wait to go back.
Awful ambience and decoration, overpriced food.
Another great experience at Rays.staff and food are great !
The service and the wine were good. The steak itself started out as quality meat, its clear-- however I asked for medium, which should mean a moderate amount of pink in the center. What I got was rare: red throughout with a deep red center. I sent to back only to have the chef heat the outside, leaving the center untouched (it needed to be put onto a cooler part of the grill to cook...)
I know that steakhouses partially pre-cook the steaks but this literally came out a few minutes after I ordered it: not nearly enough time to cook it properly.
Each meal comes with creamed spinach and mash. The latter was likely boxed potatoes and watery to boot. I won't be coming back.
Just terribly disappointing...first time visitor and will never return. Ordered the 60 day aged Delmonico, recommended med rare, but it was served blackened and charred. Shrimp scampi was swimming in orange glob, only received one glass of water and never refilled. Upon complaining that the steak was too charred to eat, was only offered a piece of pie, and manager never came by to ask us about our issue.
Great food. Fair service
Meeting friends from 30 years ago.
Birthday celebration! Everything was great, steaks superb!
We were seated quickly which was great! But the menu was a lot different from what was online. Our waiter avoided us most of the night. I never got part of my order. And the table setting was a little close together
Always a great place to grab a delicious steak dinner!
The server seemed to have absolutely zero personality, and no interest in us or making sure that we were satisfied with our food, drinks (one which she had to be reminded that we had asked for) or if we needed anything.
It was as if we (and our being at Ray's) were an imposition on her time.
Always great, fantastic steaks
Great steak! We like large-ish steaks to share and the porterhouse for two was perfect, and came at the exactly temperature we specified. Kevin provided great service. We already have reservations to return
Two of the four steaks ordered at our table were undercooked. One of us sent theirs back and it was cooked to the right wellness, the other person had eaten about a third of his steak before realizing that the middle was rare and didn’t want to delay his meal. This makes two of the last three times we’ve eaten at Rays far less than stellar. We’re done. There are too many good steak houses in this area to settle for mediocre at not-so-mediocre prices.
Food was great! Service was great as well. Not a lot going on in the way of atmosphere and the tables are a little on the close side.
For the price the food was just okay. I have had better steak in a chain like Outback or Longhorn.
There are many better steakhouses in the DMV. Everything was fairly good but nothing was great. Prices are a little high based on the ambiance and food.
Food was great. I can't complain about a thing anyone ordered because it was all cooked precisely as we asked, and plated nicely. Ladies, beware the door in the largest stall of the restroom. The door swings shut quickly and cut my wrist. Other than that, not a complaint.
We were in the DC area and were told to go to Ray’s. The food was terrific and service was great. Hen we are in DC again we will definitely visited Ray’s.
First time and last time at this place. Steaks were mediocre and expensive. Drink selection was horrible and for a supposedly first rate steakhouse I would expect a better drink selection. Mostly disappointed with the food - all of it. Spent $400 on a super disappointing experience. Never going back.
Party of two on a Sunday night, relatively busy time, had reservations, were seated without delay.
We ordered two of the same, 2 crab bisque soups that were just ok, and two ribeyes cooked M. When the meat was served it turned out that what we got were two NY steaks, cooked M.
To be fair they were good, but I felt that night like a nice piece of meat, but nevertheless it is not my favorite cut, ribeye is! Screwing up such a simple order like that is totally unacceptable. We did not want to wait again for our order to be made as requested and ate the NY’s. Got an apology from the waiter and a single dessert that we did not touch. Looks like if they screw up two orders they try to make up for one and not two.
Too many other places in NOVA still there to try, so no, I will not return to this place.
A great steakhouse without feeling like a pretentious uppity steakhouse, and the prices are a little better than a more uppity steakhouse too. But the steaks are absolutely delicious! I love coming here whenever I am visiting the area.
We've been to Ray's so often, that it feels like Sundays at grandma's: comfortable, low-key, reliably delicious. Suggestion: offer a "steak frites with a small salad" and I'll come more often! ( the skinny crunchy fries, not the thick wedge steak fries). Gracias!
Got the 14oz ribeye. There was more fat than steak. There is a difference between a well marbled steak and one with thick fat lines. I could barely cut the steak. Aside from that, it came out luke-warm, undercooked(asked for MR but it came out with what seemed like only a sear) and honestly didn’t have very much flavor. Huge disappointment since I drove an hour for the experience.
Went recently for birthday dinner. Seated promptly and had a very nice table near a window. The waiter was efficient and pleasant and gave me about 5 Happy Birthdays throughout the night. We all enjoyed our entrees-the special comboy rib eye was fabulous. The filets were perfectly cooked to order. Could not have asked for more. Look forward to returning at another time.
Would not recommend. Does not live up to the hype at all. We were celebrating a new job, which was never mentioned despite being in the notes beforehand. Steak was cold and undercooked. Service was terrible, waiter came over once every 30 mins despite the place being relatively empty. Don’t go here
Service was not up to standard. I made reservations a week in advance for husbands birthday. We waited 10 mins to be seated anyways. They sat us at corner table where is was so dark we couldn’t even see what we were eating. The waiter took forever to bring thing ( if he even brought it all) i asked for A1 sauce he didn’t even bring it. The food was was actually the only thing i would give minimum 4 stars for.
Great steak restaurant, but slightly easier on your wallet than the others.
If you want great steak, this place is as good as it gets. Just the best mouthwatering steaks, with unlimited complimentary side portions of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach at reasonable prices. Great wine selection as well. My favorites are the NY Strip Steak and the Ribeye Cowboy Cut. I feel that the steaks are best enjoyed unadorned with any sauces or toppings, though I appreciate that food preferences are a matter of personal taste.
Table was ready when I got there 15 mins early. Very friendly service. Delicious steak. Very decadent sides—garlic mashed and creamed spinach. Their medium rare was like most other places rare.
We enjoyed the food and appreciated the extra sides with our leftovers.
This restaurant has become a go-to spot for my son and me (other family members just aren't red meat eaters). We both had New York strip, cooked exactly as requested. It is truly a wonderful establishment to enjoy a high quality meal without paying for the fancy trappings of those other steakhouses.
Why in the world does Ray’s offer martinis only on the rocks and not straight up? Surely glassware or the brief time it takes to shake/stir the martini and then strain it into a glass is not that taxing.
Excellent food, but inattentive service. We will definitely be back to enjoy the amazing food, though!
The food is delicious and the price is very reasonable; you can find more expensive restaurants but NEVER the same quality! Ray's The Steaks has never disappointed me. Last time service was a little slow; it took a while for the waitress to take our order and this had never happened before. But after that, service was good.
