Ray's Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We spent Valentine’s Day here, and decided the bar was more our scene. We ate at Rays Cafe (upstairs) which is a little more casual than the downstairs and more fun in my opinion! Bartender was attentive and quick to get our food and drinks. The steak was a little tough but really enjoyed the oyster special and the king crab legs. Chocolate Genache was terrible but that’s just me. :)
Everything thing was excellent, except for the server who appeared to be overwhelmed. He did not exhibit a culture of service. Simple request to take a picture of my spouse and I was not honored. He appeared rushed and preoccupied. I have frequented Rays Boathouse since the late seventies; I have always felt that it is a welcoming venue. But on 2/13/18, that was not the case. Maybe the waiter just had a bad day.
Excellent lunch at Ray's Cafe. The mixed greens salad with apples was excellent. I loved the abundant apple chunks instead of the wafer-thin slices of apples that used to be on this salad. Good update, Ray's. The entire Ray's team made this an excellent experience and I highly recommend this gem.
Food was deliciois and served quickly. Wouldn't recommend the mini salmon burgers, bunds weren't soft, fish tasted overcooked. Had made reservation, but were accommodated at a table that wasn't all set for us. Had to ask few times and remind the waiter to bring the missing silverware set and plate. Great view of the water, cosy atmosphere.
A great neighborhood restaurant and a great place for Seattle visitors. The view from the outside seating and from the window seating is beautiful, the drinks very good, the service very attentive an accommodating to special requests and the food, especially the Thai seasoned mussels exceptional. The happy hour now covers the total restaurant and is attractively priced with very nice options.
I found it lacking in comparison to previous visits. Perhaps an off night in the kitchen? $20 for 6 oysters and they all had pieces of shell and were not fresh - don't ask, I know. Caesar salad was about as basic and undressed as I've ever had. No anchovy! NE clam chowder was good, not great. Beer was over priced. I was upstairs with 2 others. I like that space and will go back again. My guess is, off night. I can only hope...
Ray’s Cafe has been a favorite of my family’s for many years. The restaurant has a magnificent view of Puget Sound and the entrance to the Ballard Lochs. Service is always good and food is fresh and delicious. My favorite spot to have some fish and chips on a weekend. Other places may be lower cost but do not match the quality, service, and view.
Neglected to tell us one of the entrees was unavailable and without letting us know substituted a different salmon entree. We told server was not what was ordered. Apparently mgr had not told server. It was not handled professionally. Ended up turned sub dinner and did not reorder. We were comped with free dessert but still was handled poorly.
As usual great food and wonderful service. This was Christmas Eve, so special with family.
Prices seem to get a bit higher, more so I think than other places, in escalation. That limits the number of visits we make to this fine restaurant that I have visited for almost 50 years.
Ray's always is good and this luncheon was no exception. Great service and great food. I had the fish & chips and took about half of it home. Not surprisingly, my husband ate it later that evening and asked where we had eaten since the it was so good. To be able to say that about left-over fish and chips is pretty amazing!
When the sun and mountains are out, Rays Cafe is a six star experience. Without the view, it's a good four star with fresh and tasty but pretty standard menu. There are good fresh salads and great burgers in a cafe price range, and some fairly formal and pricey mains. Would love to see some more variety in the lower end of the menu, but I'll keep coming for the view.
I was looking forward to reconnecting with a friend that I had not seen in a year and a half. We wanted it to be special and where it was quiet enough for good conversation. It met all our expectations and was not so busy that we didn't feel guilty making it a leisurely dinner. Great evening!
My family and I have had the Thanksgiving buffet in the Cafe for several years in a row. We really enjoy the atmosphere. The servers are excellent. The food is very good, especially the preparation of the vegetable side dishes, which are many. Also, desserts are presented in tiny, bite-sized portions, which means I get to sample more than one!
We took Mom to Ray's Café for her 80th birthday this past week. I knew Ray's would be a perfect place to celebrate. I'm a regular there, and often bring friends for their birthday. I reserved a table and also mentioned it was Mom's 80th. Service was sporadic rather than attentive. Food was just OK, nothing outstanding beyond the always yummy clam chowder. When dessert time arrived, our server mentioned nothing about Mom's birthday at ALL. No complimentary treat was offered, and then the dessert we obviously had to order and pay for was missing the all important candle, like it was just a dessert ordered on any ordinary day. Highly disappointing!
All of the five people at our table thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I have been to Ray's several times and found the food to be excellent, as it was this most recent time when I chose the filet mignon/shrimp meal--very yummy. Service was good. However, a large raucous party of 10-12 people next to us made it nearly impossible to converse. This didn't exactly ruin the experience, but it definitely took the shine off it.
